>> good morning. i'm diane macedo. >> i'm kendis gibson. here are some of the top headlines we're following on "world news now." harvey weinstein is expected to surrender later today in new york to face the first charges connected to alleged sexual misconduct. this comes after morgan freeman apologizes to eight women. a civilian is being called a hero after killing a gunman. a mother and daughr were injured in the initial shoing but are expect to recover. irish citizens from around the world are flying home today for a historic referendum. voters in ireland will decide today whether to repeal the

country's strict decades-old ban on abortion. the vote is expected to be close. the rockets edged out golden state by four, and now the defending champs are looking at an early summer. from abc news, this is "world news now." and we do say good morning, everyone. we're going to start this half hour with two new major developments in scandals that have been sweeping hollywood. >> harvey weinstein is set to turn himself in to police to face charges and morgan freeman is apologizing amid allegations. here's maggie rulli. >> reporter: eight women claim morgan freeman harassed them. one caught on tape. >> i'm enjoying the bachelor life, immensely.

i get to look at you and drool. >> reporter: this reporter says she did not find the words offensive, but cnn entertainment reporter says she started to investigate him after a press junket. he denies the allegations saying anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows i am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy. i apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected. that was never my intent. and new developments with harvey weinstein. he's expected to turn himself in to police in new york. he's been under investigation for months by the manhattan district attorney's offense. lucia evans says he forced her to perform a sexual act on him, and another actress says he raped her. these are just two of the women

who have accused him of rape or sexual harassment. these will be the first criminal charges against him. he's also under investigation in l.a., the uk and by federal prosecutors here in the u.s. diane and kendis? >> maggie rulli there on that. she mentioned the whole morgan freeman thing. the union, sag actor, is saying any accused person has the right to due process, but it is a starting point to believe the brave voices who come forward in an incident like this. >> and as for weinstein, we just hear the continuing message that weinstein has said all along he did not have non-consensual sex with anyone. maybe we will hear more today as he faces a judge. breaking overnight, two suspects are on the run after an ied device exploded in a restaurant in canada. >> three were critically hurt. two men were captured on

surveillance video leaving the scene immediately after the explosion. the blast comes a month after ten people were killed in toronto after a van plowed into a group of pedestrians. and aaa says new record numbers of americans will be spending the holiday weekend away from home. the largest airlines expect more than 8 million passengers between now and tuesday and they say allow extra time for long lines. >> if you're traveling by car, plan or major gridlock, especially if you're trying to leave a big city. you'll have to dig a little deeper at the gas pump, prices are up 33 cents from this time last year. another thing is the threatening weather. melissa constanzer has the forecast. >> as we look into the yucatan, we are watching a tropical

system or what's likely to be a tropical system. and it will probably receive a name. meanwhile, into your saturday we are looking at more thunderstorms through the great lakes. and by memorial day, it's a wet one as the tropical system nears. diane, kendis? >> it's looking pretty nice in los angeles for the memorial day weekend. turning to north korea, expressing hope that president trump changes his mind about canceling his summit with kim jong un. the president cited the north's tremendous anger and open hostility as the reason behind his decision. the rhetoric between the two countries heated up as north korea slammed top u.s. officials. in a letter to kim, the president pointed to the u.s.'s military might but added a summit was still possible at some point. the president's explosive allegation that his campaign was spied upon has led to a meeting.

but democrats say there was nothing to bolster the president's claim. pierre thomas has more. >> reporter: congressional leaders and senior members of the white house staff heading to the justice department for a classified briefing after president trump's unsubstantiated claim that a spy was in his campaign. >> we now call it spygate. >> reporter: he says it's looking like the biggest political scandal in history but has provided no proof. it was triggered by a report that an informant questioned two trump campaign advisers about their contact with russian operators. the "times" never mentioned anything about a spy inside the campaign. still, the president ordered justice department officials to brief republicans in congress. >> what i'm doing is a service to this country. >> reporter: when the unusual briefings ended, republicans

disappeared, not saying a word, but from democrats, this blunt assessment. >> nothing we have heard today has changed our view that there is no evidence to support any allegation that the fbi or any intelligence agency placed a spy in the trump campaign. >> reporter: democrats were expressing concern that white house chief of staff john kelly and a white house attorney showed up at today's classified briefing. and senator mark warner tweeted that the president's aides, quote, have no business showing up at a classified intelligence briefing. pierre thomas, abc news, washington. the president's daughter and adviser has reportedly been granted full security clearance. a source confirms to abc news that ivanka trump's clearance was upgraded to permanent top security and she has received it at the same time as her husband jared kushner that we learned about earlier this week. samsung has been ordered to pay apple for illegally copying

with instant moisture from ky. you're you're looking at live pictures of hawaii's kilauea volcano right now. it has entered the fourth week of this eruption, spewing lava and ash into the air on the big island. scenes overnight from hawaii. >> it has destroyed some 50 homes and structures. 2,000 people have faced mandatory evacuation and another 2,000 may be next in line. >> officials really don't know how long this will last. clayton sandell is there. >> reporter: you can see behind

my this is still a very active eruption on the big island of hawaii. it is spewing lava into the air sometimes 150 feet into the sky. we are also seeing the color blue, as in blue flames coming out of the ground. that we are told is caused by methane gas trapped underneath the lava. another unusual sight, some residents are returning home to find giant cracks, sometimes ten feet wide, hundreds of feet long running right through their yards. there are two big concerns here. the first is that lava is and if it crosses, 1,000 people could be cut off. on a plan to use large transport helicopters that can evacuate people. the second worry is that toxic gas is coming from the lava. the trade winds are blowing it away from us.

this mor this morning on "world news now," new developments as the president cancels the summit with north korea. >> the north responding to that overnight saying its leaders are still willing to talk. where things stand right now. also mayhem at an oklahoma city restaurant as a man walks in and opens fire. an armed civilian jumps into action, shooting the suspect to death. we have details ahead. plus, the nba rookie tased and taken down by police is talking about it exclusively to abc news, telling our reporters he's mad every time he sees the video. hear what else he told robin roberts. and time to break out the corkscrew and let the bottle breathe a bit before pouring,

summit hours after president trump was abruptly saying nope, it's canceled. >> they said it's regrettable and are willing to give the u.s. time to reconsider. the announcement came after kim jong un allowed international journalists to witness the explosion of a nuclear test site. here is jonathan karl. >> president trump warned the collapse of the summit is bad news for the entire world. >> i believe that this is a tremendous setback for north korea and, indeed, a setback for the world. >> reporter: the president pulled out in a wistful letter to kim jong un, addressing the north korean dictator as "his excellency", writing we deeply appreciate your time, patience and effort, but due to open hostility i feel it is inappropriate at this time to have this long-planned meeting.

you talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful i pray to god they will never have to be used. this comes after a north korean thaw in relations. including two meetings between mike pompeo and kim jong un and the release of three american prisoners. the president even relished talk of a nobel peace prize. >> do you deserve the nobel peace prize? >> everyone says so, but i won't say it. >> reporter: president trump tried to show some flexibility. >> i don't think i want to totally commit myself, but all in one would be a lot better. >> reporter: but after vice president pence suggested dire consequences if kim doesn't give up his nukes, north korea lashed out, calling pence a, quote,

political dummy. but, in his letter, president trump told kim, quote, i felt a wonderful dialogue was building up between you and me. and the koreans released a conciliatory statement, calling the summit desperately needed adding, we are willing to sit down with america at any time to solve the problem with a generous and open heart. at one point, the president suggested that the june 12th summit date could be saved after all, that it could go forward as planned. but later white house officials made it clear that is not going to happen. but the president very clearly would like to see a summit with kim jong un at some point. it just won't happen on june 12th. jonathan karl, abc news, the white house. >> lots of drama, we will keep an eye on that one. some violence in oklahoma city is over after a gunman was shot and killed by a civilian. policeay the shooteralked into that restaurant, opening fire, injuring a woman and her 12 year old daughter.

both are expected to recover. the suspect then walked outside where unfortunately for him he encountered an armed civilian. >> the suspect exited the establishment, he was confronted by a citizen. the citizen had a weapon, took out the weapon and shot the suspect. >> reporter: the mother and daughter were there celebrating the girl's birthday. the shooting appears to be random. harvey weinstein is expected to turn himself in to police in new york to face charges involving sexual misconduct. these would be the first criminal charges stemming from allegations made by two women. according to cnn, weinstein will be charged with rape. weinstein has said all along that he did not have non-consensual sex with anyone. in the meantime, morgan
