good morning bay area. let's get up and get going. >> this is abc7 mornings. >> g. thank you for joining us. on this saturday, may 26th. i'm mat keller in for chris nguyen. let's start with a look at the weather. >> happy memorial day weekend, everyone. we are starting out with plenty of clouds. even some mis, drizzle and a few showers early on. live doppler 7 shows all the cloud cover, that on-shore flow and there is a pressure that will allow for slow clearing today. 53 in san francisco, santa rosa, and fremont. we are looking at temperatures this morning to be on the cooler side of average. notice the winds are looking at -- out of the west, 26 miles an hour, and out of the west over in oakland as well. so the breezy winds will be with

us throughout the day'd tom we will see some sunshine throughout the morning hours and we are looking at a big warmup for tomorrow. toeflg news out of the east bay. oakland firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire near the coliseum. firefighters say flames broke out at 10:40 last night in a roofing materials yard. after the a's fireworks show. you see heavy smoke in the area. bart service was not impacted. no injuries were reported. no reports on what caused the fire. police are vetting a shooting in the fillmore neighborhood near golden gate avenue. you can see several officers in the area collecting evidence. we have calls into the police department about more details about what led up to the shooting. two men took a joyride on electric scooters on the bay bridge. commuters were stunned to see

them on their afternoon commute on thursday creating a traffic nightmare. cornell barnard tells us the chp is not amused. >> reporter: the bay bridge is meant for cars and trucks but certainly not these guys. >> look at this [ bleep ] -- >> reporter: this driver used his cell phone to capture two young men riding their motorized scooters on the eastbound lane article? ing thursday afternoon's commute. >> i thought it was [ bleep ] crazy. >> reporter: that driver wants to remain aunanimous mouse. he first encounted them on first street. he expected them to make a right on harrison but they kept going onto the bay bridge. the scooters can only go 15 miles an hour but this pair seemed to be having a blast. >> seems like they didn't care. they didn't have a care in the world. they were having a good time. >> reporter: the chp got several calls about the bay scooters when officers never found them. we showed it to this officer.

he says it is a first. >> completely illegal. no motorcycle of any kind can be up on the freeway. >> reporter: the two are riding bright green scooters owned by lime. they sent us a statement. this week, san francisco issued an ultimatum to scooter companies to remove them from city streets by june 4th while officials work on a permitting process. meantime, drivers, keep an eye out for these two. they might be back. concord police are investigating after the driver of a van was stabbed outside a cvs store on tree boulevard on clayton road. he was waved down by a man in the parking lot. when he stopped to see what he wanted the drive was attacked. the passenger said nothing triggered the attack.

>> mys about pulled over and asked him what his deal was and the guy pulled out a knife, stabbed my boss in the neck and took off running. >> the driver was stobd in the throat and the neck and is in critical condition. police searched for the stabber but have now called it off. protests after officers were not charge in two deadly shootings. abc news was on valencia street where nearly 100 none straightors blocked traffic. one officer shot and killed a man on meth in 2016. another killed another man who was acting as frommively. thursday the l.a. announced the officers will not face criminal charges because no crime was committed. a 24th annual memorial service honoring jenny lynn, a

14-year-old who was brutally murdered in her home in 1994 was held last night. each year her family hold a vigil as pinson has not been found. a group of south bay runners who were burned out of their homes 38 days ago is demanding their landlord let them back into their units. abc news was at the summer wind apartments last night. last month this fire damaged 36 rent controlled apartments. since then renters claim they haven't been allowed to return to their homes. >> they gave us a few days to get in and get the essential. after that we have been shut down 30 days trying to get back into the units and they would not let us. >> a spokesman didn't say why they were not allowed back in.

enders taped a letter with their demands onto the window of the landlord's office. these are some of the first official determination from the deadly wildfires last season. this may change the fire liability requirements. >> there is a distance required from their lines. >> reporter: he says pge is in the wrong. they said trees coming into contact with power lines is the cause of four major fires. >> determined that pg&e failed to remove a tree in the proximity of a power line. >> reporter: these fires took place in early october of last year. in three of the cases cal fire says pg&e violated state code.

an agency has sent its findings to local prosecutors. pg&e wouldn't go on camera with us. instead it released the following statement. based on the information we have so far, we believe our overall programs met our state's high standards. the utility points to climate change and increased fire dangers as a challenge for the industry. it says the state's policies on wildfire liability are unsustainable. >> they are trying to create that fear so that we would change the wlau and take them off the hook. that's what they are trying to do. >> reporter: he says as the law stand now pgm shareholders are liable for damages if the utility is found negligent when a wire cars. cal fire has not yet officially determined the cause of the deadly north bay fires. katie utehs abc7 news. a bottle belonging to a passenger on flight 2087 exploded mid air spilling a

liquid in the cabin. the flight crew called for fifrts to check it out. haz-mat teams determined there was no hazard. one passenger was que que police and released. another airling us flight was canceled due to cargo seals. this is not related to wednesday's incident when the tip of a wing clipped a building at sfo. >> i asked if i could get to barcelona. and they said that the flight to dub he listen was booked that day, completely full, that i would have to wait until the 8:30 to which i told them that i wouldn't be able to make my connect on the 8:30. and they basically said they couldn't help me with that. >> that man is supposed to start a study aprod program in spain on monday. some fellow passengers have been stranded since wednesday. airling us says out gave them overnight accommodations.

bail after surrendering to police an allegations of rape and criminal sex acts. the charges stem from encounters with two women. weinstein denies the allegations. he has given up his passport and expected back in court in late july. scientists from the marine mammal center confirmed the female fin whale found in salinas was killed by a ship strike, the third in the past week. the others were discovered at jack london square in oakland and tennessee valley beach in marin county. kylie jenner tweeted today it is the last day to visit her pop up shop in san francisco. the store, featuring her line of cosmetics and apparel opened eight days ago with a great deal of fanfare. legions of fans stood in line to got in and do some shopping as well as catch a glimpse of jenner when she arrived. today is the second day of the first big day area music

we are looking at a few sprinkles out there. the roadways may be wet but overall the system is winding down. let's go to cuba. tropical storm alberto. you can see the track this system is to move into the gulf of mexico over the holiday weekend. so it's going to take a left-hand turn come monday. sunday night into monday. right now the winds are at 40 miles an hour. you can see all of the heavy rain associated with it. anywhere from five to seven inches through the gulf of mexico. up to ten inches in the florida keys. you can see the red here indicates the very heavy rain for the forecasted track from panama city, florida, westward to new orleans. and it should strengthen a little bit as it moves into the gulf coast. winds of 65 miles an hour. back home, pretty tame with 55 in oakland. 56 in san jose. 54 in napa. but we do have the winds. not only this morning, they will be a factor throughout the afternoon inside the bay and gusting to near 30 miles an hour.

abc news explains. >> reporter: a chorus was brought in to mark the momentous occasion. >> three, two, one -- snoob a ribbon cutting ceremony made it official. antioch residents now have a state-of-the-art commute option that will get them off the very congested highway 4. >> i think we are just happy to have it out here. we can relax and come on in. >> reporter: but these trains leaving from and arriving in antioch are different than the conventional bart trains. >> it is an electric motor, and it is using renewable diesel. >> reporter: bart says they are better for the environment. they also ride on a standard track gauge like any train. bart tracks are specific to, well, bart. this means that people traveling from antioch have to switch trains at the next platform station, an 11-minute ride. >> at first i felt like we were getting short changed. >> it's the jolly trolley. it's not the actual bart train. >> reporter: most of us who feel

a little cheated understand why bart decided to go with plan b. follow me. that ten mile extension cost $525 million. had they gone with a conventi conventional bart line it would have cost $1 billion. >> it would have cost twice as much to building, taken twice as lodge the bet that money. once we were able to choose this technology and get the plans in place -- and today we are opening a new system. >> noticeably quiet. the train goes at a nice speed and it is a pleasant ride. >> reporter: service will officially begin making antioch part of the bart transit family. in antioch, abc.news. parishioners in the south bay are celebrating the resurrection of a church stroird in a fire four years ago. holy cross church in san jose has been rebuilt and opened its doors to the community yesterday. abc7 news has the emotional day.

>> reporter: this is the fiery chaos nearly four years ago. the 100-year-old italian church in san jose went up in flames. the cause of the fire was never determined. the devastation was unimaginable for those who grew up in the church. >> back in 1951, it was april 1st, i was b baptized here. >> reporter: this church goer got to sit in the new sanctuary hours before its official opening. >> i'm glad it was rebuilt. >> reporter: it allows for you more natural light. while the structure is completely new there are elements from the old church, the original stained glass has been refurbished and the wooden crucifix hangs over the altar. >> to see the stained glass windows put back, and especially that cross -- i watched the fire department take of the out through the roof. and nothing really happened to it. >> it didn't burn. a lot of people say that was a

miracle. the fire fighters brought it down. we restored it and we put it back up there again. >> reporter: the cost of this new church, $7 million, most of it covered by insurance, and the diocese. the rest raised by parishioners. >> people donated to the fixtures in the church. it's been a beautiful thing for the parishioners to do. >> reporter: the community-wide effort will now allow a new generation of believers to have a place of their own to worship. >> we are really blessed to get our church back. it's not going to be the same church but at least we have a church to go to. >> reporter: a sanctuary to celebrate some of life's most memorable moments. in san jose, carlos sal saido, abc7 news. today the city of dublin will reopen its water park for the season. with it, the steep water slide where a boy was thrown off last year. kristen sze has the details of wave water park. >> reporter: sky 7 flew over the

wave water park. all quiet now but summer thrill seekers will be buzzing down these slides including the emerald plunge that drops you four stories at an 80 degree angle before you splash down in a lane below. a warning we are about to show disturbing video of an accident last year. on opening day just hours after the debut of the 45 million dollars park a 10-year-old boy hydroplanes up the side, tries to hang on, but is thrown off kidding to a stop. luckily his injuries were minor. his family has dropped their claims with the city and settled with the slide's manufacturer. the emerald slide has been closed ever since but after testing and an investigation that found that the problem was excessive water flow the state has now recertified the slide. >> after the extensive testing that's been done we are very confident that the slide are safe. for those who meet the weight and height requirements. >> the park has new feature this

it's going to be another cool day in san francisco with the palm trees blowing and perhaps white caps out there on the bay. 54 in novato. 57 in concord. 54 in livermore. lake tahoe cloudy today. temperatures in the 60s. 70s tomorrow. it should be brightening up. looked like a nice weekend. today will be the coolest and the cloudiest day out there. a few showers early locally. then look at breezy winds around the bay. sunny by the afternoon. and looking at a big warmup for the rest of the holiday weekend. beyond that we are looking at changes. hour by hour in our east bay valleys today, around concard and danville, pleasant hill, looking at upper 50s to start out. low 60s by 10:00 a. few peeks of sun. upper 60s. noontime the sun is coming out with low 70s for afternoon highs. so it will be pleasant out there. certainly brighter than it has been. and as we look at the week ahead in santa rosa, today temperatures in the low 70s. should see about 75 degrees.
