in livermore. walnut creek gray there. starting out the clouds. partly cloudy by noon tooin. 50s on the coast throughout the day. and by 4:00 it is a sunny and breezy afternoon. nubers will be in the upper 60s from our inland valleys. about mid 60s around the bay. and mostly clear night tonight. the sun sets at 8:21. we will talk about much warmer weather a dramatic warmup, for the rest of the holiday weekend. the details are in a few minutes. developing news out of the east bay. oakland firefighters are vetting the cause of a fire near the coliseum. firefighters say flames broke out at 10:40 last night in a roofing materials yard near the coliseum bart station. this was after the a's fireworks show. paul simon concert at oracle ended around the same time. you could see smoke in the area. bart service was not impacted. no injuries have been reported. no word so far on what may have caused the fire. more developing news out of san francisco. police are investigating a shooting in the fillmore neighborhood that left two people injured. it happened at 10:00 last night

on fillmore street near golden gate avenue. police say a unanimous and woman were in a car when they heard gunshots. they pulled over after realizing they were injured. they were taken to the hop with non-life threatening injuries. police don't have a suspect description. two men took a joyride on electric scooters on the bay bridge. commuters were stunned to see them on their afternoon commute on thursday creating a traffic nightmare. cornell barnard tells us the chp is not mused. >> reporter: the bay bridge is meant for cars and trucks but certainly not these guys. >> look at this [ bleep ] -- >> reporter: this driver used his cell phone to capture two young men riding their motorized scooters on the eastbound lane article? ing thursday afternoon's commute. >> i thought it was [ bleep ] crazy. >> reporter: that driver wants to remain anonymous.

he first encountered them on first street. he expected them to make a right on harrison but they kept going onto the bay bridge. the scooters can only go 15 miles an hour but this pair seemed to be having a blast. >> seems like they didn't care. they didn't have a care in the world. they were having a good time. >> reporter: the two are riding bright green scooters owned by lime. they sent us a statement. this week, san francisco issued an ultimatum to scooter companies to remove them from city streets by june 4th while officials work on a permitting process. meantime, drivers, keep an eye out for these two. they might be back. in fran, cornell barnard, abc7

news. concord police are investigating after the driver of a van was stabbed outside a cvs store on tree boulevard on clayton road. he was waved down by a man in the parking lot. police say when the van stopped the see what the man wanted, the driver was attacked. the passenger said nothing triggered the attack. >> my boss pulled up and asked him what his deal was and the guy pulled out a knife, stabbed my boss in the neck and took off running. >> the driver was stabbed in the throat and the neck and is in critical condition. police searched for the attacker but have now called it off. protesters took to the streets in san francisco last night after officers were not charged in two deadly shootings. >> how do you spell murder? >> s-f-p-d. >> abc7 news was on valencia street where nearly 100 demonstrators blocked traffic. they started the protest at the mission police station. one officer shot and killed mario woods in 2015.

woods was on meth and armed with a knife. another killed luiz pat in 2016. witnesses say he was acting aggressively. on thursday the d.a. announced the officers will not face criminal charges because under the law no crime was committed. >> a 24th annual memorial service honoring a girl brutally murdered in her home in 1994 was held last night in castro valley. her killing was never solved but each year there is a vigil as a way to raise awareness of child shood issues. >> a loan suspect in a napping of pinson died in a shootout in southern california after a pursuit across the state. pinson has not been found. a group of south bay renters who were burned out of their homes 38 days ago is demanding their landlord let them back into their units. abc news was at the summer wind apartments last night. last month this fire damaged 36

rent controlled apartments. since then renters claim they haven't been allowed to return to their homes. >> they gave us a few days to get in and get the essentials. after that we have been shut down 30 days trying to get back into the units and they would not let us. >> a spokesman didn't say why they were not allowed back in. renters taped a blown up letter listing their demands on the windows of their leasing office. cal fire says trees coming into contact with pg&e power lines cause four major fires last october. these are some of the first official determination from the deadly wildfires last season. this may change the conversation around fire liability. >> there is a distance requirement from their poles from their wires. if they keep to that distance, then there shouldn't be a problem. >> reporter: the state senator jerry hill says cal fire's investigations show pg&e is in the wrong. cal fire says trees coming into contact with power lines is the cause of four major whilefires in beauty and nevada counties.

>> the cal fire investigators found evidence and determined that pg&e failed to remove a tree in the proximity of the power line. >> reporter: these fires took place in early october of last year. in three of the cases cal fire says pg&e violated state code, an agency has sent its findings to local prosecutors. pg&e wouldn't go on camera with us. instead it released a same. based on information we have so far, we believe our overall programs met our state's high standards. the utility points to climate change and increased fire dangers as a challenge for the industry. it says the state's policies on filedfire liability are unsustainable. >> they are trying to create that fear so that we would change the law and take them off the hook. that's what they are trying to do. >> reporter: hill says as the law stand now pg&e share hold remembers liable for damages if the utility is found negligent when a fire occurs. cal fire has not yet officially

determined the cause of the deadly north bay fires. katie utehs, abc7 news. a united airlines flight from sacramento was quarantined by haz-mat crews when it landed in houston yesterday. a bottle belonging to a passenger on flight 2087 exploded mid air spilling a liquid this the cabin. the flight crew feared it was dangerous and called for firefighters to check it out. haz-mat determined there was no hazard. one passenger was questioned by police and later released. another airling us night was cammed from sfo. this time due to damage to one of the cargo seals. the airline says this is not related to the wednesday incident when the tip of a wing clipped a building at sfo. a flight took off thursday night but didn't help passengers with connections. >> i asked if i could get to barcelona. they said that the flight to dublin was booked that day, completely full. that i would have to wait until the 8:30, to which i toll them that i wouldn't be able to make my connect on the 8:30.

they basically said they couldn't help me with that. >> that man is supposed to start a study abroad program in spain on monday. some fellow passengers have been stranded hins weesday. the airline says it give thaem overnight accommodations. a win for the repeal of an abortion ban in ireland. overnight post its were put up with the word women, freedom, yes outside bars. it would be a change for the catholic nation. the new extension to the bart system has started. it is a ten mile stretch between the antioch and pittsburgh center. abc7 news was there yesterday for the official ribbon cutting ceremony. antioch trains run on a different type of track than bart trains meaning passengers have to switch trains at the next platform station, an 11-minute ride. how is the day looking.

a gray day out in the bay. but these sea lions don't seem to be bothered by the weather. they are enjoying it out there at pier 39 with some tourists looking on this morning. the president of usc announced he will step down after he was accused of mishandling a sex scandal involving a school gynecologist. cl max nikias sent a letter of resignation to the board of trustees. the 2016 internal investigation found dr. george tindall conducted inappropriate exams but the university did not report the findings to the state medical board. former movie mogul harvey weinstein has posted $1 million bail after surrendering to police on suspicion of rape

and criminal sex acts. he spent less than a half hour in court yesterday. the charges stem from encounters with two women. weinstein denies the allegations. he has given up his passport and is expected back in court in late july. today is the second day of the first big bay area music festival of the season. bottle rock took over napa for the weekend. dion lim sampled some of the excitement and shows us what is happening. >> reporter: while the crowds at the sixth annual bottle rock are about the same as years past selling out at 120,000 tickets the fans are ready for an upgraded experience. >> i have been looking forward to it since last year. the fact i am already here is unreal. >> reporter: there is of course the massive lineup with headliners set to take five different stages. like bruno mars, snoop dogg, and muse. >> incubus, earth, wind and fire all of it. i love it. >> reporter: there are more mouth watering food trucks. >> for this friday we started with 400 tritip. to start. we will see how it goes. >> reporter: more seating and local restaurants.

international airport yesterday. a service dog gave birth at the gate. airport paramedics and an offduty nurse helped the mother give birth as the father looked on. it took three hours. all eight puppies were born healthy. the owner thinks the excitement of all the people at the airport sent the dog into labor. now she is trying to figure out how to get the puppies back to philadelphia. still to come. will they or won't they meet? the historic summit between president trump and kim jong-un could happen after all. what could save the meeting between the two leaders. plus

and we will be looking at a big temperature increase the next few days. as for the next few showers, low 60s inland and around the bay. 50s on the coast. sunny skies and breezy winds towards the later afternoon. upper 60s inland, 60s around the bay. stying cooler at the coast. still some fog tonight but we will talk about how much we warm up when we do our full weather forecast in a few minutes. the leaders of both north and south korea met today for the second time in a monday. they discussed peace commitments they reached in their first summit and kim jong-un's potential meeting with president trump. president trump says they are having productive talks about reinstating the summit. abc news white house correspondent has more. >> reporter: this morning, president trump leaving the door open for an historic peace summit next monday with north korean leader kim jong-un. >> we will see what happens. it could even be the 12th. we are talking to them now. they would very much want to do it we would like to do it. we are going to see what happens. >> reporter: in that tweet i don't have night the president

saying there have been quote very productive talks about reinstating the summit. the reversal coming after preliminary talks between the u.s. and north korea turned hostile. by ten of the week both threatening nuclear war. the president cancelled the june 12th meeting in singapore writing thursday that it would be quote inappropriate because of north korea's tremendous anger and open hostility. but after north korea released a new conciliatory statement on saturday trump suggesting its a all part of the dance telling abc's jonathan charles. >> john, everybody plays game. you know that better than anybody. >> reporter: north korea's vice minister of foreign affairs threatened to call off the summit while weavering to vice president mike pence as quote a political dummy. this war of words made after pence made an appearance on fox news suggesting if they don't completely denuclearization kim will face the same fate as the libyan dictator moammar gadhafi. >> this president has made it clear we will not tolerate north

korea possessing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. >> reporter: despite the back and forth the white house press secretary sarah huckabee sanders telling reporters they are still going with preparations. >> we are going to be prepared if the meeting takes place on june 12th as the president indicated it could this morning. we will be ready one way or another. >> an ash cloud rose 10,000 feet into the air on kilauea on hawaii's big island. lava has destroyed more than 80 homes and structures since fissures began opening earlier this month. this morning bart officially launched a new service in the east bay between pits fits and antioch. it has two new stations antioch and pittsburgh center. and passengers will ride bart's first ever diesel powered trains.

why isn't everyone thrilled with the new service? abc news explains. >> reporter: a chorus was brought in to mark the momentous occasion. >> three, two, one -- >> a ribbon cutting ceremony made it official. antioch residents now have a state-of-the-art commute option that will get them off the very congested highway 4. >> i think we are just happy to have it out here. we can relax and come on in. >> reporter: but these trains leaving from and arriving in antioch are different than the conventional bart trains. >> it is an electric motor, and it is using renewable diesel. >> reporter: bart says they are better for the environment. they also ride on a standard track gauge like any train. bart tracks are specific to, well, bart. this means that people traveling from antioch have to switch trains at the next platform station, an 11-minute ride. >> at first i felt like we were getting short changed. >> it's the jolly trolley. it's not the actual bart train. >> reporter: most of us who feel a little cheated understand why

bart decided to go with plan b. follow me. that ten mile extension cost $525 million. had they gone with a conventional bart line it would have cost $1 billion. >> it would have cost twice as much to build. it would have taken twice as long to get that money. once we were able to choose this technology and get the plans in place -- and today we are opening a new system. >> noticeably quiet. the train goes at a nice speed and it is a pleasant ride. >> reporter: service will officially begin making antioch part of the bart transit family. in antioch, abc7 news. parishioners in the south bay are celebrating the resurrection of a church destroyed in a fire four years ago. holy cross church in san jose has been rebuilt and opened its doors to the community yesterday. abc7 news has the emotional day. >> reporter: this is the fiery

chaos nearly four years ago. the 100-year-old italian church in san jose went up in flames. the cause of the fire was never determined. the devastation was unimaginable for those who grew up in the church. >> back in 1951, it was april 1st, i was baptized here. >> reporter: this church goer got to sit in the new sanctuary hours before its official opening. >> i'm glad that the church is back and they didn't build something else here. >> reporter: it allows for more natural light. while the structure is completely new there are elements from the old church, the most significant, the original stained glass has been refurbished and the wooden crucifix that hangs over the altar. >> to see the stained glass windows put back, and especially that cross -- i watched the fire department take it out through the roof. and nothing really happened to it. >> it didn't burn. a lot of people say that was a miracle. the fire fighters brought it down.

good morning. here's a live look from our abc7 roof camera. yeah, it is a gray day out there. but a lot of people are already walking and jogging out there on the embarcadero. people are getting out and about despite the cool temperatures this morning. all right. in sports this afternoon the a's and giants will try to rebound from losses. the athletics take on the arizona diamondbacks at the oakland coliseum at 1:05 p.m. and the giants face the cubs at wrigleyfield tonight at 4:15. the warriors need a win to stave off elimination in game six of the western conference finals. tonight the dubs battle the rockets at oracle arena. tip-off is at 6:00. mindy bach has a preview in this morning's sports. >> the warriors last two losses to the rockets were by three and four points respectively. it's not difficult to understand where the games went wrong. the warriors simply gave the ball away.
