today happens to be the unofficial start to summer. sure feels like it outside in san jose. the flowers and the sun both out in oakland. picnic time around lake merritt. the blankets and the barbecues were out. we are indoors. but at least it's air-conditioned. good afternoon. thanks for joining us. i'm larry beil. i'm ama daetz. let's look at the pier 15 camera. it is gorgeous outside. but there is change on the way. spencer christian here with a first look at our weather. hi spencer. >> all right. considering how hot it is in some areas. it's good to be inside. here's a look at live doppler 7. sunny skies across the bay area as you might imagine. highs so far, 94 degrees at fairfield in antioch. 95 in concord. 96 in gilroy and 91 at lakeport. 96 in napa.

temperatures in oakland, 80. quite a temperature change. generally about 70 degrees to 11 degrees warmer in north balow indications. it's not going to cool down much. temperatures in the 70s in many inland locations. as we start the day tomorrow, temperatures already in the mid to upper 70s in many spots. it's going to be as warm tomorrow as it was today. however, midweek, we have quite a cooldown coming. maybe even drizzle. i'll look at that in a few minutes. >> spencer, thank you so much. to honoring fallen heroes across the nation. from washington, d.c. to the bay area, americans paid tribute to the men and women who died for our freedom. >> in marin county honoring those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. >> here's wayne freedman. >> it's the one day every year

sacrifices. it's not insignificant. >> those volunteers started at 8:00. they were done by 10:00 a.m. this is the first year for the rose distribution and many volunteers say they certainly hope it's not the last. at the presidio, cornell barnard. abc 7 news. in san jose, a 21-gun salute by the marine corps was held at oak hill memorial park. the ceremony brought together several generations of veterans for a patriotic and solemn service. dan noyes had the privilege of emceeing the event. sam liccardo also attended. he spoke of the sacrifice of the men and women of the south bay who severed in the armed forces. president trump marked his second memorial day as commander in chief by laying the wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. president trump stood by general

when the worst oil spill hit san francisco, first responders went to work. and mayor gavin newsom, he went to hawaii. man: newsome left the day after the spill for a four-day vacation in hawaii. the same gavin who said his job as lieutenant governor was so dull, he only showed up for work at the state capitol one day a week, tops. gavin's not gonna work as governor. by living off the grid. completely. you could generate your own energy, at home.

eight people, including a child were inside a minivan that plunged 150 feet into an east bay canal. it happened at 6:00 a.m. on northbound 680 near the 580 merger. you can see how far the white toyota careened into the water about 150 feet below the road. emergency crews said everyone got out okay. there were minor injuries reported. crews pulled the minivan out of the canal. the chp needs information from any witnesses on what led to the accident. two people who died in a small plane crash yesterday have been identified. relatives say they are richard and susan bristow from carmichael near sacramento. they took off from petaluma municipal airport in a single engine amateur-built custom manufactured plane. witnesses heard the plane's engine sputter before it turned around and headed back to the airplane. the plane crashed in the area of east washington street near

adobe i road. no one on the ground was hurt. the ntsb is investigating the crash. two employees of a redding -- a vigilant deportation attempt of a man from china. police arrested two people on friday charging them with conspiracy and kidnapping. the two planned to force 21-year-old on to a plane and fly him to san francisco where they would put him on a plane back to china. she was part of a -- attending flight school. according to a recording she played for a nud-- newspaper, e owe the united states government needs you out of this country right now. you understand? a woman's voice followed saying, quote, you are here illegal. you know that. if you don't go with us, you go to jail. police rescued the man before his accused abductors could put him on the first plane. four men arrested in

connection with a stabbing at san francisco's dolores park. police were called to the park on sunday to investigate the report of a fight. officers found a man suffering from nonlife-threatening stab wounds. he was taken to the hospital and is expected to to recover. police are investigating what caused the fight. the device that connects your home or your office to internet is under attack. the fbi is urging you to take immediate steps to stop it. a half million routers have been compromised in 54 countries. abc 7 news reporters david louis has details about the malware attack and the steps to take. >> the malware's name is vpn filter. the box is serves is the gateway to connect home and small -- the fbi and justice department want you to take this simple step. reboot it by disconnecting it, waiting 30 seconds and plugging it back in and waiting for it to re-establish an internet connection. silicon valley -- it can

it's been sunny and warm. actually, hot in spots. highs reached mid-90s in many locations. here's a live view from sutro tower. it's currently 76. 83 mountain view. 90 in san jose. 94 at gilroy. 66 at half moon bay. emeryville, the golden gate, here's the view. napa 86, 91 at novato. 95 at concord and livermore. santa cruz beach. too late, it's already crowded. here's a look at the forecast. sunny and warm again tomorrow. perhaps not as warm as today. pretty close. sharply cooler on wednesday and thursday. it will warm up again at the end of the week as june arrives. overnight, mainly clear skies over the bay and inland. you'll see light areas of fog near the coastline. overnight lows on the mild side. mainly mid to upper 50s around the bay. some inland locations will see lows around 60 degrees.

again, very mild overnight. tomorrow it's going to be very warm by afternoon. look for breezy conditions at the coast. along coastline, we'll see highs in the 60s. around the bay, shoreline, mid to upper 70s. 80 degrees at mountain view. many inland locations, upper 80s to 90 degrees tomorrow. our beach forecast calls for sunny skies, high uv index tomorrow. apply the sunscreen and most beach locations, highs in the mid-60s tomorrow up to 73 at santa cruz. looking ahead a bit, i mentioned the cooldown on wednesday, sharply cooler in most locations. inland highs only in the low to mid-70s generally. on wednesday, a bit cooler still on thursday with a slight chance of early morning drizzle. generally, a dry day and quite chilly for the end of may with highs in the 60s in most locations. but it will warm up again at the end of the week. first day of june, friday another warming trend that carries us through the weekend. speaking of that, the

here are the stories making headlines at 4:30. americans everywhere are paying tribute to fallen service members on this memorial day. at the san francisco national cemetery in the presidio, volunteers placed red roses at the headstones of each veteran who is buried there to honor them for their sacrifices. president trump sent this tweet of him speaking at arlington national cemetery. he thanked those who gave their lives for our freedom. the president made the remarks after laying a wreath at the tomb of unknown soldier. this warning was tweeted by abc 7 news reporter david louie. the fbi is urging people to reboot internet routers at home and in their offices to head off mal war. the filter bug is infecting

danya bacchus, abc news. los angeles. an undocumented migrant from west africa earned french citizenship for his incredible act of bravery. the man scaled an apartment building in paris on saturday night to save a 4-year-old child dangling from a balcony. he climbed from balcony to balcony until he got to the fifth floor where he grabbed right there that child. >> i saw a lot of people yelling, cars were honking. i got out and saw the child who was about to fall from the balcony. i like children. i will hate to see him get hurt in front of me. i ran and thought of ways to save him. thank god, i scaled the front of the building to that balcony. >> oh, my goodness. french president macron met him at the presidential palace and granted him citizenship and offered him a job as a firefighter. the father of the child faces charges for alleged parental neglect. that video is amazing.

two wells are covered in lava at the geo thermal plant on the big island of hawaii. lava from the erupting volcano crossed on to the property. this came as another lava flow destroyed two more homes. officials have taken the precaution of capping all 11 of the wells and removing 60,000 gallons of flammable liquid. the wells, by the way, are used to generate electricity. if the wells rupture, it could set off an explosion releasng dangerous gases into the environment. flames exploded into the air in texas today during a massive fire inside a warehouse. this was in southwest houston. that broke out at 6:30 local time. caused several ex pleases due to a buildup of pressure. authorities ordered neighbors to shelter in place for hours due to fumes from the burning chemicals. there is tragedy on this memorial day. a national guardsman is missing after a devastating flooding

tropical storm alberto claimed two lives already. a news reporter and photographer were killed when a tree fell on their vehicle. alberto is pounding the florida gulf coast right now with strong winds and heavy rain. this is howt looked and sounded a short time ago in mexico beach about 100 miles southwest of tallahassee. the storm made landfall just before 5:00 local time at laguna beach. alberto was the first named storm of the 2018 atlantic hurricane season three days ago. a member of maryland's national guard is missing after a flash flood tore through a community for the second time in
