by noon tomorrow. the heat holds on for another day. by wednesday, we have a major cooldown coming our way. we'll detail the changes the next couple of days in a few minutes. thank, drew. new details about the two people killed in a plane crash in the north bay. it happened near the petaluma airport yesterday afternoon. we have new information about what happened in the seconds before the crash. abc 7 news reporter laura anthony has an update. >> mayday, mayday. we have a plane down at petaluma. >> it happened in a matter of seconds. a plane crash that killed a couple from carmichael a few hundred yards from the airport where they had just taken off. >> we need emergency services. >> the power stalled. we all looked at each other in the eye and it was like, it doesn't sound right. >> the pilot himself shot this video. o'brien said the plane was 800 feet in the air when it backfired and it banked to the

right as if to try to return to the airport. instead, it twirld to the ground. the sister of the pilot identified them as richard and sue bristow from carmichael. over the phone, bristow's sister said we're devastated by a sudden loss. richard was an excellent pilot. it was his passion. we believe it must have been something mechanical. the plane he was flying was a van's rv 6. custom manufactured aircraft. bristow's have been in service since 1996. both the faa and ntsb are investigating. laura anthony, abc 7 news. ceremonies across the bay area marked this memorial day paying tribute to those who gave their lives serving our country. kar carolyn tyler joins us with more. >> for many people, it's just a day off. for those who served and lost family members, it's a day on, on the calendar to honor that

new at 5:00, dozens of unwanted pets rescued by a woman in vacaville need rescuing again following her death. the dogs are getting help at muttville in the mission district. melanie woodrow has the story. >> the final batch of dogs arrived at muttville in san francisco's mission district this morning. the dogs rescuer passed away unexpectedly. >> there's no replacing her. she was one of a kind. she opened her home to all of them. >> friend amanda hoover says she had horse at her ten-acre home in vacaville. >> she gave these guys a life that most wouldn't have. >> kelly, also a friend, discovered marlene had passed away. >> she pulled on my dress and showed me where to find her. >> the other dogs are here now where they're being checked out before they can be adopted.
