gators because you have a wall and you're thinking of building a new wall, think again, because they're now apparently learning how to climb them. >> victor oquendo has more. >> reporter: that is a seven-foot alligator scaling a fence in a backyard, not exactly what neighbors expected to wake up to. >> anything big enough to eat me gets my attention. >> reporter: it's actually the fifth alligator removed from the neighborhood this spring. >> i hate to think i'm having supper with an alligator, but he might be on my dock. >> reporter: across the carolinas, chomping their way into yards. >> oh, my gosh. >> reporter: officers wrangling this massive gator off a porch earlier this month. these alarming sights are becoming more common. in texas, they dragged this one from a driveway. even a mountain lion spotted in backyards outside l.a. and researchers believe it's a sight we should get used to.

>> they're moving into areas they formerly inhabited before they were pushed out by human activity. >> reporter: according to a new study from duke university, large predators are moving into unexpected arias, recognizing former hunting grounds that have been taken over by humans. >> if the likelihood is higher that large predators are going to be popping up in ecosystems near us. >> reporter: like our neighborhood streets, backyards, and apparently even fences. there is another factor to consider. may and june is mating season for alligators. victor oquendo, abc news, miami. >> does that mean we'll see more snakes? >> we're not going with the snakes. but that explains it, with it being mating season. >> they got goals. they are motivated. >> but they're not limited, not at all. >> so the alligators can climb, but not all species can. it's a little more challenging for some, like this poor little puppy, trying desperately to climb the ladder.

eight years into the disease was when all the light went out. for me, it was heart-wrenching. look into the eyes of somebody with alzheimer's sometime, you just don't see -- the person's soul is, like, gone. bea: and it takes a toll on everyone. i mean, it's -- it's a depressing disease to watch unfold before your eyes. she actually thought those of us who were caring for her and who loved her most were her worst enemies. more and more responsibilities fell on my shoulders. lisa: this disease just ravages a family. it changes your life. the magnitude of it is indescribable. my mother taught me to be in the moment. we have to live in the moment with them. and i'm going to be with that person right now, in this moment, wherever she is. art: now is the moment. if we work together, we can stop this epidemic.
