on the scene. >> reporter: strong winds are not dying down here. that is what is posing the firefighters. one of them burning behind me. you can see smoke billowing into the air and fire crews surrounding that acreage. a total of seven fires have burned at least 500 acres, and now there are no reports of any injuries but several outbuildings have been destroyed. some of these structures were going up in flames including vehicles. multiple agencies have been battling the fires from the ground as well as the air using fire retardants and water drops. but strong winds not making it easy. >> gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour.

and any one small ember that catches over the containment line is going to quickly take off. >> reporter: and of course that is the concern for these fire crews as we head into the night hours and doing what they can to stop the fire progression and so far at 0% containment. byron highway remains closed between interstate 5. as for the cause of the fire, it remains under investigation. reporting live in contra costa county. >> as carlos showed you clearly, the wind was a major factor gusting on the fire lines. abc7 spencer christian is here. >> the wind is going to remain gusty throughout the evening.

$55 million in damage. in concord, laura anthony, abc7 news. san francisco mayor wants to hire and train 90 more dispatchers in the next two years. a dramatic rise in the number of emergency calls. vic lee is in the news room with the story tonight. >> it is shocking, the stats speak loud and clear over the past seven years, there has been a whopping 44% increase in the number of 911 calls in san francisco. that plus an under staffed call center. mayor fer rrell plans plans plas dispatchers. dispatchers are now answering 88% of 911 calls within ten seconds. they are inching close to the national standard which is 90% of the time. but a long struggle to reach

this point. and call volumes continue to increase dramatically. >> approximately 1,000 more calls per day. that's 1,000 more calls per day since seven years ago. >> reporter: this while the call center kocontinues to be under staff. long time dispatcher debra says that means working mandatory overtime and holidays. when you think you are going home after working eight hours and you have to stay 12. >> 40% of our calculation that come into the call center are not emergencies. >> reporter: the mayor wants to allocate more money to divert these calls to the system. it would get nearly $15 million to near equipment and
