. a local family saddened and stunned tonight, 10 days after reporting this woman missing, someone found her dead today inside a building at sucker berg general hospital. this is the second time something like this has happened there in five years. good evening i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama date daets. >> nuecbc's reporter spoke to the family tonight. >> the family was in deep shock, they aall righted the media nine days ago, not long after their

mother disappeared. 76-year-old ruby anderson suffered from anyone sdi men shs being treated at the hospital. the family put out this picture two days after he wondered off. a worker found her body in the stairwell at a -- which is not asecond bl to the public. >> we're concerned how this happened, we don't know how this woman gained access to the area where she was found. >> reporter: it's up to medical examiner to determine the cause of death. five years ago, the body of 58-year-old lynn spaulding was also found in the stairwell. in her case chef missing for 17 days, the stairwell was in the hospital building. david perry was a good friend of

information about this debris to please give them a call immediately. a half dozen fires in the eastbound already torched hundreds of acres near byron and they're still burning tonight. con tame is now at 35%. >> the wind is kicking up, making it tough going for the crews on the front line. >> reporter: as night fell, fire crews began making progress on containment, this as the wind seem to only pick up. >> firefighters out there with 35 miles an hour of sustained wind getting gust of 55 miles per hour. >> reporter: sky 7 was over the south discovery bay area when several fires started burping along byron highway after 1:00 this afternoon. crews did what they could to battle the flames from the ground and air. officials say several buildings

and vehicles were destroyed in the 500-acre blaze. >> i was at work, i got a call from my neighbor that my yard was on fire. >> reporter: flames came feet away from his home. part of his backyard torched. >> those all have to be replaced, so, that's a big deal because we've got animals, livestock. >> reporter: despite some minimal damage, damien and his neighbors were thankful the outcome wasn't worse. these are the winds that helped spread the flames earlier scorching this area. crews spend most of the enning putting out hot spots that can trigger fires. they'll stay here over night. the cause is still under investigation. carlos saucedo, abc 7 news. strong gusts whipped around trees and brought down power lines in accost that.

month's fire destroyed some apartments under construction in concord, was in fact arson. the atf released this video showing a subpoena at the site moments before the flames erupted. there you see him going inside the building and coming out without that bag that was in his hand. there's a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. the open fire department team had to be called where multiple chemicals found inside a building. 26th and west street near pablo avenue. the bomb squad was also called out but they were cleared, not necessary. no word if any ars were made. a san jose church asking for help after a vandal shattered their window and left needles. trinity will hope surveillance

videos will help. katy yew lick with the story. >> reporter: from the sound of church bells at san jose's trinity cathedral to shattered glass. >> i was like, oh my god not again. because it happened before. >> reporter: cameras shaw a man walking from st. james park from the church. what possessed him to vandalize the church office at 6:45 p.m. in the evening memorial day is anyone's guest. fortunately nobody was inside. >> maybe he gotten mad at the bells. figured he takes revenge on the church. >> reporter: the concrete sidewalk covers is not heavy, so to prevent this from happening again they secured it with wire. the home was populations neighboring st. james park is a problem. >> this one has been replaced.

>> reporter: adding insult to the broken winds, this man left behind a pile of hypodermic needles. >> we're hoping that somebody is being done with those issues because t not getting better. the housing isn't getting any cheaper. >> reporter: she turned the video over to san jose police and the officer took a report. in san jose, katy ulis, abc 7 news. a group of police officers accused in a racist text scandal could face discipline. the racist, sexist and home phonetic case between officers. the messages were discovered during a justice department review of the s f pd during a federal corruption probe. the court ruled that the department waited too long to punish the officers. an appeal's court today overturned that decision.

a passenger who decided to smoke on board a plane forced the crew to make an emergency landing in san jose. the passenger lit up in the plane's bathroom and the smoke got into the cabin. the flight was on its way from san francisco to los angeles. southwest says it has turned that smoking passenger over to officers. >> last call is the step closer tonight to getting pushed back in california, a bill that would give seven cities the option of allowing bars to sell alcohol until 4:00 a.m. instead of 2:00 a.m. made it out of the state senate. oakland city will only be allowed to move time back. if it becomes law it will take affect in 2021. bay area student in the spotlight tonight for his top we at the white house. >> so, i'm sorry that you feel that way. this administration takes it seriously. >> what he asked sarah sanders

be watching the warriors take on the cavs for the first round of the finals tomorrow evening and your lining up, you don't have to worry about it being so breezy, it will be windy though. 60 degrees at 5:00 and dropping down to the upper 50s, the mid-50s. i would take a jack or sweater and enjoy the game or tune in to us here on abc 7 news. in terms of our temperatures, we are in the 50s just about every where except loss cast toes at 45 degrees. the wind is playing a role in holding some of those temperatures up. gusty in spots over night tonight. cloudier in the morning with spotty drizzle. we're looking at breezy, cool conditions tomorrow. it's going to be heating up this upcoming weekend. if you're driving tomorrow morning for the commute time definitely watch out for damp and foggy spots.
