with that 13-year-old, benje choucroun. >> i really thought that her answer was really authentic, and i really look forward to see what steps the white house will make to resolving this issue. >> reporter: the president's trip to texas comes a day after the state's governor announced a plan to increase law enforcement at schools. in a proposal, arming educators. >> the recommendations include actions that can be taken right now as well as proposals for lawmakers to consider as we proceed forward. >> reporter: today president trump's school safety commission will travel to maryland for its first of several filled visits but there's been no significant action by that commission or the administration to combat gun violence in schools. diane and kendis. >> well, that young kid is demanding action, so we'll see what happens. kenneth moton, thank you. and turning to the russia investigation we're learning about a memo written by the former acting director of the fbi andrew mccabe after his boss james comey was fired. sources say the memos detail a conversation in which deputy

attorney general rod rosenstein told mccabe president trump wanted him to reference russia in his letter justifying why comey was fired. special counsel robert mueller now has that memo and is looking into whether the president fired comey to impede the russia probe. those preparations for the possible summit between president trump and the north korean leader will be the subject of meetings today here in new york city. the secretary of state mike pompeo and that top north korean official shared a beef dinner last night. as you can see, they're all smiles. they even took o in the skyline in new york on a beautiful night. when they get back together this morning, they'll try to determine if the proposed june 12th summit can take place. a woman in tennessee is in custody charged with the first degree murder of a sheriff's deputy during a traffic stop. police say erika castro-miles participated in the crime but haven't specified how. authorities are still searching for the alleged shooter, steven wiggins. meanwhile a solemn profession moved sergeant daniel baker's body to the medical examiner's office.

auorities e w offeri $12,000 reward for information leading to wig' arrest. rtant hs this morning. the american cancer society is changing its guidelines on screening for colorectal cancer and it now says that people should start getting screened at 45 instead of age 50. the new recommendation is in response to the rising rates of colorectal cancer among young adults, but experts are not recommending a colonoscopy for everyone at that age. instead they're urging doctors to offer patients a choice of six different screening options. you can read more about those options on our website, atmfans.com. the flooding rains drenching parts of the south are now blamed for at least two deaths. up to eight inches of rain fell overnight in parts of virginia. the extreme conditions have already prompted a state of emergency and forced thousands to leave their homes. this morning, the heavy rains in north carolina have turned deadly. this is what's left of a home in the town of boone after a

landslide came crashing down collapsing every wall of the house. two people inside were killed. the governor has declared a state of emergency for several counties after remnants of tropical storm alberto pounded the area for 24 hours dumping up to 7 inches of rain. >> they told us it was rising a foot an hour. >> reporter: 2,000 residents had to be evacuated because authorities feared this dam could fail, but after a safety check, residents have now been allowed back home. >> it was scary because when they was taking people out, it was like i've never seen nothing like it. i mean, it was unreal. >> reporter: two transportation workers had to be rescued interest this 33,000-pound dump truck. they were using a snowplow to clear debris when a massive mudslide swept the truck a thousand feet downstream. the men escaped through a side window. the heavy rain then moved north unleashing floods in the chicago area. water overtook some cars faster than the drivers could realize what was happening. >> people were ripping their bumpers off because of the

29-year-old kyron hinton. when officers responded to calls of a man standing in the street yelling at passing cars. >> police cannot continue to police police. >> reporter: the wake county district attorney charged three of the officered involved with assault with a deadly weapon along with several other charges. hinton was initially charged with disorderly conduct, resisting officers and attacking a law enforcement dog. but those charges were later dropped. maggie rulli, abc news, new york. disgraced hollywood producer harvey weinstein has been indicted by a new york grand jury on charges of rape and a criminal sexual act. the charges cementing from accusations from two women are the first charges against weinstein since dozens of women accused him of sexual misconduct. his lawyer says weinstein will plead not guilty and vigorously fight this. if convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison. weinstein has denied ever having nonconsensual sex.

the makers of "sesame street" lost a court battle over a trailer that uses its trademark. sesame workshop sued ftx films over melissa mccarthy's upcoming movie called "the happytime murders." at issue was its slogan, no sesame, all street and argued it confused the public and harmed its brand, but the judge disagreed saying the trailer actually distinguished the movie from the "sesame street" trademark. the tv pastor who told his followers he needs a new $54 million private jet is now defending the request. televangelist jesse duplantis says jesus told him he needs that specific jet. but he denies it's a luxury item. >> first thing, i never think of an airplane as luxurious. i think of an airplane as work and all about preaching the gospel of the lord jesus christ. nothing do with luxurious. >> reporter: duplantis who lives in a $3 million house funded by donors is being investigated by the irs. a local news station in new orleans reported he took nearly 2500 trips on a private jet since 2000 including trips to hawaii.

the hospital says the interior stairwell is not accessible to patients. the medical examiner is now trying to determine her cause of death. the discovery of anderson's body is bringing back painful memories from five years ago. that's when the body of 58-year-old lynn spalding was also found in a stairwell. in her case she had been missing for 17 days and the stairwell was in the hospital building. developing news, the coast guard is reaching out to the public to figure out the source of debris that washed ashore in pacifica. some of the debris is marked with the words barka and rio. cruise also found lifejackets and clothing. the coast guard has no reports of accidents or missing boats. the coast guard is searching for a possible ship wreck between the pacifica pier and mori point. pg&e crews on the watch for
