see what's going on with the roads and if the winds are an issue. >> they are. especially in the altamont pass. seeing slow traffic not due to the winds specifically, but we have our early morning commuters out there from 205 and 580 westbound slowing now. we'll take a look at drive times in just a couple minutes. a couple of problem spots. approaching concord westbound 4 before 242, lanes blocked here and a big significant backup as you're heading westbound with the accident headed towards the concord area. we have an accident in oakland. we had road work out there as well. that's not helping the slow traffic from near the coliseum towards high street. give yourself extra time if you're heading northbound towards oakland or the macarthur maze. >> i want to show you some brand new video. we know a fire investigation is under way in san jose. investigators there looking into exactly what sparked this fire at an office building. firefighters responded to this

about 2:00 this morning on the corner of capital and lake view avenues. they say they got it under control within half an hour. we know at least the california teachers association has offices in the building. firefighters found no one inside the building at the time when they got there. no injuries have been reported. they have remained on scene for several hours checking for hot spots. >> jessica, thank you. 5:02. crews worked overnight to contain seven fires in east contra costa county. one of the main issues they're dealing with is strong winds. cal fire says the fires are 35% contained. several structures are so r.burned more than 500 acres here is a look at the area whe the fires are burning. they started just after 1:00 yesterday afternoon. fire officials reopened byron highway last night. strong gusts up to 50 miles per hour, people are thankful there's been minimal damage so far. although there will be

rebuilding to do. >> the posts are done for about 200 feet. those all have to be replaced. that's a big deal because we've got animals, livestock. >> he also says firefighters have done an amazing job. mike nicco says winds will die down a little bit. gusts are at 20 miles per hour this morning. the cause of the fire is under investigation. this was not supposed to happen again. a family finds out their loved one was found dead in a stairwell at sf general hospital. this time it was ruby leander son, a patient with dementia. five years ago there were security reforms that were supposed to prevent another heartache. matt keller is live at sf general. >> reporter: reggie, this is obviously a sad and tragic outcome. her two children say their family is in deep shock. unfortunately this has happened before here in san francisco. 76-year-old ruby leander son suffered from dementia and was being treated at one of the department of public health

facilities on the campus of zuckerberg general hospital. family members put out a news release two days after xi wandered off. yesterday a staff engineer found her body in the stairwell of the hospital's power plant building which is not supposed to be accessible to the general public. something similar happened five years ago, the body of 58-year-old lynn spalding was also found in a stairwell in the hospital building after she had been missing for 17 days. david perry was a good friend of spalding. >> it's just something that should never happen. the fact that it's happened twice is truly beyond the pale. >> reporter: as for anderson, the medical examiner will determine the cause of death. live in san francisco, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> i just can't imagine what the family is going through. on to new developments in danville after an explosion in a parking lot. >> the atf joining the investigation to try and figure out what happened. an explosive device damaged two

summers ville. that's also blocking lanes of traffic there. 30 minutes from antioch westbound towards concord. in oakland, an accident northbound 880 near high street. that's been cleared out of lanes. traffic is definitely improving there. developing news this morning, the coast guard is reaching out to the public to try to figure out the source of debris that washed ashore in pacifica. the coast guard tweeted photos of pieces of wood that seem to be from a vessel. some of the debris is marked with the words barka and rio. abc 7 news was in pacifica in the area. crews also found lifejackets and clothing. the coast guard has no reports of accidents or missing boats. the coast guard is searching for a possible shipwreck between the pacifica pier and mori point. the oakland fire department hazmat team was called after multiple chemicals were found inside a building while cal fire was looking for illegal fireworks. this happened at 26th and west streets near san pablo avenue.

the fire department tweeted photos of the team taking samples of the chemicals and testing them. no word if any arrests were made. we're hearing from john good man regarding the racist tweet controversy. >> he's not saying much. in video obtained he said he would, quote, rather say nothing than cause more trouble. in a series of tweets roseanne barr says she's sick over the controversy and called goodman one of the greatest actors in the world. she also denied she's racist. an update on what's happening in hawaii. new evacuations the morning on the big island. kilauea volcano continues to' rurpt. now people in two coastal neighborhoods are being asked to leave because the lava may cut off their escape routes. the u.s. geological survey officials are saying the lava is
