fire at an office building. this is at the corner of capital and lake view avenues. this fire began about 2:00 this morning. they got it under control in half an hour. we know at least the california teachers association appears to have offices inside this building. there's a sign you see there outside of the building. firefighters found no one inside when they arrived. no injuries have been reported. they have remained on scene for several hours checking for hot spots. back to you. thank you, jessica. crews worked overnight to contain seven fires burning in east contra costa county. one of the main issues they're dealing with, the strong winds. cal fire says the fires are 35% contained. several structures are destroyed. it's burned more than 500 acres so far. here is a look at the area where the fires are burning. they started just after 1:00 yesterday afternoon. fire officials reopened byron highway at 8 last night. given the strong gusts, people in the area are thankful there's

been minimal damage although there will be some rebuilding. >> the posts are done for about 200 feet. those all have to be replaced. that's a big deal because we've got animals, livestock. >> he says the firefighters have done an amazing job and mike nicco says the winds will progressively die down. the cause remains under investigation. a group of san francisco police officers ak cued in a racist texting scandal. >> the racist, sexist and homophobic texts were sent by officers seven years ago. a court ruled that the department waited too long to punish the officers. an appeals court overturned that decision yesterday. 6:05 now. this morning, secretary of state mike pompeo will continue meeting with the top north korean official in new york city. we're less than two weeks away from the planned summit between

a couple of tough commutes this morning, mike. we have a wind advisory for the altamont pass and an hour drive from tracy up and over the pass into the dublin-pleasanton area. westbound 4 into concord from antioch, earlier accident near 242. that's been cleared out of lanes. check out the long line of red sensors. that's very slow traffic with a secondary accident in the back of that. westbound 4 near somersville, that one has yet to clearment you're looking at about 1:45 to get from antioch westbound on 4 into concord. that's a brutal commute. if you can wait a bit, that's the best advice we can give you. thank you, sue. the shipyard development at hunters point in san francisco may have had its share of problems. but mayor mark farrell says he would recommend the place to friends and relatives. the chronicle reports the mayor and city staffers toured the site yet. the epa and navy are in the

6:14. we have new developments in danville after an explosion in the parking lot. the atf joining the investigation to try to figure out what happened. an explosive device damaged two cars sunday night on diablo road. our media partners at "the mercury news" reports atf officials will help out. nobody was hurt. a south bay church is asking for help after a vandal shattered a window and left a pile of hypodermic needles. this happened on memorial day. church surveillance cameras shows a man walking from st. james park to the church. he picks up a concrete utility access cover and hurls it through the window. no word on why he did this. fortunately no one was inside at the time. the church office manager discovered the damage on tuesday morning and called police. b.a.r.t. is taking new steps to try to make sure urgent

cleaning takes place on its trains. >> at mcar sure station a dedicated cleaning team is stationed. there have been many recent complaints in needles and other issues, station hallways and trains. b.a.r.t. says the team members can quickly intercept the train, clean messes from the cars as the reports come in. a team will be stationed at lake merritt. all five lines go through either lake merritt or macarthur stations. starting monday, there will be a report bio hazard feature. if you went out for sushi on tuesday night, you may have run into blames. some members of the cavs dined at pabu. there's a bit of a curry connection here.

anderson, a patient with dement dementia. a similar accident happened five years ago that led to security changes. matt keller live with more now that the investigation is under way. >> reporter: two children say their family is in deep shock. investigators are trying to figure out how this could happen again. >> we're very concerned this happened. we don't know how this woman gained access to the area where she was found. we're absolutely looking into that. >> that area was the stairwell of the hospital's power plant building which is not supposed to be accessible to the general public. 76-year-old ruby lee anderson suffered from dementia and was being treated at one of the department of public health facilities on the campus of zuckerberg san francisco general hospital. something similar happened five years ago. the body of 58-year-old lynn spalding was also found in a stairwell in the hospital building after she had been

missing for 17 days. daifrd perry was a good friend of spalding. >> i can't imagine what the family of this poor woman is going through. more to the point, what this poor woman went through. you go to a place of healing and you're supposed to be safe. as for anderson, the medical examiner will determine the cause of death. live in san francisco, matt keller, abc 7 news. it's 6:34 now. developing news this morning, the coast guard reaching out to the public to try to figure out the source of debris that's washed ashore in pacifica. >> some of the debris is marked with the words barka and rio. abc news was in the area where the items were kfrd. crews also found lifejackets and clothes. the coast guard has no reports of accidents orr missing boats. the coast guard is searching for a possible shipwreck and are

asking for anyone who may have more information about the debris to give them a call. the oakland fire department hazmat team had to be called after multiple chemicals were found inside a building while cal fire was looking for illegal fireworks. this happened last night. the fire department tweeted photos of the team taking samples from the unknown chemicals and testing them. they were eventually removed. no word if any arrests were made. the atf says a huge fire last month at a concord building under construction was intentionally set. >> surveillance video showing this suspect shot moments before the flames began shooting out of the building. the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect in this video. tim nicholas and his family were among 250 residents of the neighboring renaissance square apartments who had to be evacuated in the middle of the

drive time. believe it or not, that's better. it's improving. toward redwood city and the ambulance towards edgewood, a problem with a stalled bus and a car slammed into it. it's blocking the middle lane. you're experiencing slow traffic along that stretch of 280. normally not a problem. not this morning though. here is your drive time westbound into dublin highway 580 is improving, down to 51 minutes. there's your drive from highway 4, antioch into concord and into san francisco from marin county, just under 20 minutes. not bad at all. we'll check on the peninsula accident with an update in a few minutes. sue, i know you can relate to this. do you get nervous when your phone battery is zooming towards zero or do you feel like a part of you is missing when you leave your phone at home? you could have a full-blown case of anxiety associated with your cell phone.

east bayshore line. as you move inland, 65 to about 70 in antioch and brentwood at 71. as far arz tonight, mid to upper 40s in our deepest valleys to low 50s around the bay. the breezes will be stout once again, all the way through about 7:00. then they calm during the overnight hours. oe of the reasons it gets so cold tomorrow. but another reason why it gets warmer. without the breeze blowing off the ocean water, we hit the 70s and 80s with 80s and 90s for the weekend. going back to our traffic maps. looking at highway 4 which is improving, believe it or not, with an hour drive time from antioch into concord. we had a couple of earlier accidents there and they've been cleared. to the peninsula we go, northbound 280 near edgewood. a solid backup. a stalled bus was hit by a car. they're waiting on a big rig or heavy-duty stow truck to get the

bus out of there. an accident in the clearing phases westbound 580 right before the 680 junction, the interchange there. you can see a bit of slow traffic backing towards hopyard on westbound 580. a look at your drive times, richmond-san rafael bridge, not too bad. your dumbarton bridge. we have a wind advisory on the san mateo and bay bridges as well. a youth football team traveling from san jose to idaho when they jumped into action to save a woman trapped in a flipped-over car. >> the boise black knights were on the way home from a championship game yesterday. they came on this crash on i-95 in oregon. they helped a man out of the car but saw a woman was still trapped inside. look at their combined strength.
