middle. this morning the trade fight between the u.s. and its closest neighbors and allies is escalating. >> let me be clear, these tariffs are totally unacceptable. >> reporter: the canadians upset. so are leaders in europe and mexico. their countries hit with stiff new tariffs on steel and aluminum imports by president trump. >> we've been taken advantage of by the world. that's not going to be happening anymore. >> reporter: it's unclear if or when but american consumers could see higher prices on everything from appliances and plane tickets to canned drinks and cars. a trade group for u.s. automakers says these tariffs will result in an increase in the price of domestically produced steel threatening the industry's global competitiveness and raising vehicle costs for our customers. the international reaction, swift. >> this is a bad day for the world trade. the european union cannot react to that without any kind of reaction. >> reporter: europe, mexico and canada promising to retaliate

with tariffs on hundreds of u.s. products like blue jeans, bourbon, peanut butter, pork, cranberries and toilet paper. >> we have to believe that at some point common sense will prevail. but we see no sign of that in this action today by the u.s. administration. >> reporter: also stressing u.s./canadian relations president trump took direct aim at canada's prime minister over trade. the president who's renegotiating nafta said in a statement last night, the u.s. will agree to a fair deal or there will be no deal at all. diane and kendis. >> kenneth, thank you. and the new message today from kim jong-un during talks with russian officials, he said he's committed to ending his country's nuclear program but in a gradual process. he also complained to the russians about u.s. dominance. his message comes as a top north korean official prepares to head to the white house today to hand deliver a letter from kim to president trump. that same official, a former spy

blagojevich and pardoning martha stewart. ♪ money money money >> reporter: both incidentally are former "apprentice" guest stars. stewart convicted for obstructing justice and lying to investigators, and blagojevich is serving 14 years on corruption charges for trying to sell the senate seat vacated by barack obama. in a statement this morning, blagojevich's wife says she and her family are very encouraged by the president's comments. he's given us something that has been hard to come by recently, hope. patti blagojevich recently appealed to trump to help her husband. here she is last month. >> he has a relationship with him from when he was on "the apprentice." president trump has said numerous times and made public statements astonished at the length of the sentence. >> reporter: the president said the recent pardons are not meant to send a message to his political allies tied up in the russia investigation. but democratic senator mark warner suggesting otherwise tweeting the possibility that he may also be sending a message to witnesses in a criminal investigation into his campaign is extremely dangerous.

in the united states of america, no one is above the law. and the president says that he's also considering a pardon for alice marie johnson, the grandmother serving a life sentence on a first time drug charge. kim kardashian has urged himo pardon johnson. nationwide protests are set for today demanding an end to the separation of children from their illegal immigrant parents. what's being called the national day of action for children kicked off in san antonio overnight. immigration advocates say they want the justice department to keep families together while they try to obtain legal status in the u.s. >> literally 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds, 5-year-olds begging, screaming, please don't take me away from my mommy and just being ripped away. >> the justice department points out illegal immigrant families were also separated under the obama administration but now justice officials say they have a zero tolerance policy for illegal entry into the u.s. and they're focusing on enforcing the law. there's new urgency in hawaii this morning as lava begins cutting off escape routes near the kilauea volcano. officials have now ordered a mandatory evacuation of a

subdivision in the path of the lava. those who don't evacuate will be subject to arrest. a local highway is also now closed and downed power and telephone lines making communication difficult. here on the mainland we are tracking severe storms expected to bring more flooding to the mid-atlantic states. north carolina's state of emergency has expanded to include all of rutherford county where flooding along the broad river has forced some evacuations, and let's take a look at the forecast for this friday. good morning. it is going to be another steamy setup for your friday here with showers and thunderstorms certainly possible as we keep the humidity thanks to a southwest flow. now, there is a cold front approaching from the northwest. this will squeeze out some wet weather late in the day, but, unfortunately, that cold front is going to stall as we head into saturday here through parts of the northeast and mid-atlantic, which means more

sergeant daniel baker. this morning the manhunt for his accused killer continues and the reward being offered is up to $46,000. authorities have also released new pictures of the suspect, steven wiggins, photos from a walmart near nashville the night before the killing. sergeant baker was shot wednesday while responding to a call about a suspicious car. a woman who was in that car with wiggins is already in custody. to london and police say a man who supports isis now admits planning an attack on prince george. the suspect is a former teacher at a mosque who is accused of encouraging attacks on the school that's attended by the 4-year-old prince and heir to the throne, even providing advice on how to make bombs. now, he can now face life in prison. prince george's nanny, by the way, has reportedly been trained in self-defense and anti-terrorism tactics. a strike is looming on the las vegas strip now that the labor contract for 50,000 casino workers has expired. the deal covering bartenders, housekeepers and other workers ran out at midnight. a strike affecting nearly three

well, this is an unusual sight, a woman driving through traffic in a bumper car from an amusement park. this happened in china. police pulled her over and seized the car. she runs a bumper car business and apparently was driving to work. seems like a safe idea. >> she forgot to use her blinker. that was the problem. >> talk about bumper-to-bumper traffic. all right, so comedian samantha bee has apologized for using a slur to describe ivanka trump. bee admits she crossed the line. >> despite the fallout she still picked up an award from the television academy last night. the academy says she has one of the most meaningful shows on the air and this won't change that. late night host samantha bee is being honored by the television

apologize to ivanka trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her. it was inappropriate and inexcusable. it crossed a line and i deeply regret it. still the television academy honored her last night for having one of the most meaningful and relevant shows on tv. but the show is also now taking a hit. sponsor state farm and autotrader are pulling out. and tbs has weighed in calling the comments vile and also adding those words should not have been aired. it was our mistake too and we regret it. as for samantha bee, industry sources say her show will likely not be canceled. two police officers in south florida have been suspended after the violent arrest of a suspect. the officers in hallandale beach were seen there taking down a man using batons even though it doesn't appear as if he's resisting. he's accused of stealing a cell phone, and police say they're investigating the entire incident. a witness says the suspect is known to suffer from mental issues. a jury in florida has awarded the family of a black man shot to death by a sheriff's deputy $4.
