not even the line advanced three feet. >> reporter: rosa said the line went -- it went all the way over here, right? and around the corner. you were at the end of the line. very frustrating right? what if i tell you there may be hope for these lines getting shorter, at least that's the hope for the dmv. twice a month starting this month they're going to be opening up on saturdays, june 16th and june 23rd. beginning in july will be open on the first and third saturdays of each month. the offices will open from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. you won't be able to do a behind-the-wheel exams. you can only do driver's licenses and id card transactions. we put a list of all the offices that will be opening on saturdays on our website, abc7news.com. hopefully someone out there coming to the dmv can bring coffee for all these people. that would be nights. we've got another two hours to

wait before the dmv opens up. back to you in the studio. >> wow. that demonstrates the need right there. thank you so much, matt. new developments now about these three puppies found severely abused. now there's a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. pet food express initially offered a $5,000 reward. peta has matched that offer. now up to $10,000. three german shepherd puppies were found at an oakland homeless encampment. one had her back paw cut off. the other two are broken jaws. the puppies are getting treatment and recovering. i'm getting new details involving the breaking news, an uber in colorado. an uber driver reportedly shooting a passenger multiple times in denver. moments ago we learned the passenger has died. police gave an update about 15 minutes ago. i was able to listen in. they say the driver shot the passenger many times and then it was the driver who called 911.

police say there was some sort of fight inside the car. and there's a big investigation still under way right now. this video, by the way, the crime scene from our abc station in denver, kmgh. the uber car is the one that crashed into a wall. so the driver actually also hospitalized right now. police say they're talking to everyone involved. they have not made any arrests yet. we're reaching out to uber for a response. i'll bring that to you when we get it. >> thanks, jessica. now to uber eats. a driver is back on the streets after threatening to stab to death a fremont couple. >> this incident happened last saturday at this apartment complex. it began when the couple blocked at a black jetta blocking the trance. the driver reversed, opened his window, spat at the couple and pulled out two long knives threatening to stab them to death. he took off. the couple managed to snap a photo. that helped the police track down and arrest the man. residents of the complex say

embarcadero. road work was supposed to wrap by 5:00. it was closer to 6:00. slight delays for about a mile and a half. next update at 6:20. it's 6:12. new at 6:00 a.m., some starbucks employees say the company training they had earlier this week was eye opening. some say they're not sure how to apply those lessons to their daily jobs. it featured a documentary by filmmaker. cnn reporting that in pairs and as a group the trainees reflected on the meaning of b s bias, ran through potential problematic scenarios and practiced welcoming behaviors. starbucks held the training after a store manager in philadelphia called police on two black men who did not leave the store when asked to because they did not purchase anything. so many people are used to doing hot yoga. there's a new fitness craze that involves being very cold.

a man charged for encouraging target extremists to target prince george said he did it. prosecutors in england say he posted several messages online

glorifying and inciting attacks. the man's trial started last week and he suddenly changed his plea. he will be sentenced later this month. developing news now, a special delivery for president trump. today he's expected to receive a personal letter from north korean lead are kim jong-un. it's unclear what's in that letter but we have a strong hint. this morning after meeting are russia's foreign minister, kim jong-un reaffirmed his commitment to the denuclearization of the korean peninsula. there hasn't been any official announcement on whether that summit will take place on june 12th. president trump says it may take several meetings to work this out. a partnership between police and the community appears to be very effective in san jose. it's now spreading across santa clara county. it's not particularly high tech or especially innovative. it's mostly just people talking to each other. last year at emanuel baptist church, 250 people including police chiefs from across the county gathered at a meeting hosted by the group people acting in community together,

mid 60s along the coast. san jose today 79 degrees. a lot of mid to upper 70s in the south bay. in the east bay, this is where we'll see the biggest warming today, from mid 40s this morning to mid 80s this afternoon. same thing in the north bay, from mid 40s this morning to low to mid 80s this afternoon. when you step outside tomorrow morning, low 50s to upper 50s except for at the coast. 47 at half moon bay. that's what happens when you don't have a marine layer. temperatures in the 60s at the coast tomorrow. look at the 80s around the bay and 90s inland for saturday and sunday our warmest days the next seven days. taking a look at traffic. a lot of sunshine, the sun glare apparent. you can see that on our bay bridge toll plaza camera. it's tough to see traffic. grab your sunglasses and know that a bit of a longer stackup in the fast track lanes. we are seeing those friday traffic patterns, that's for sure. taking a look at our traffic maps. stop-and-go traffic around

roads. quite a few trouble spots. in recovery mode westbound 80 in the richmond area, just before cutting boulevard. a crash for a little over an hour. activity on the shoulder. the speeds are starting to pick up. 22 miles an hour, 34 miles an hour, things have definitely improved. a lot of sunshine out there already today, no significant delays here. we start with developments in the arrest of a student accused of plotting an attack on his east bay school. >> new court documents show the student police arrested at california high school wanted a columbine-like massacre. abc 7 reporter amy hollyfield is in san ramon this morning. >> reporter: according to a new report we wanted to use the same guns that the columbine attackers used and wanted to carry out his attack on the same

date april 20th, in 2021. he called his plan columbine 2.0. according to our media partner, the "san jose mercury" news, they used a police report to report that police searched the boy's home and found a tactical vest, camouflage helmet, toy shotgun, handwritten notes and digital data. police say the boy, who has been arrested, met with another student and tried to recruit him. that student told a school officer. school administrators at california high school in san ramon commended that student for coming forward. the student told police there were six kids that the freshman wanted to kill. police say they interviewed him and he admitted to hating three of those kids. the teenager is in custody. he has not been identified because he is a juvenile. reporting live in san ramon, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. 6:33 now. happening today, tariffs against u.s. trade allies will go into effect. that has led to retaliation from

some of those allies. the administration is placing a 25% tax on steel, 10% tax on aluminum from the european union, canada and mexico. that started at midnight. eu officials plan to file a protest with the world trade organization and impose duties on u.s. imports. mexico retaliated by imposing tariffs on park, grapes and flat steel. dub nation breathing a sigh of relief after the warriors nearly lost game one of the nba finals. >> the real drama happened when george hill had a chance to put the cavs ahead at the end of regulation, but then this happened. >> hill misses. rebound goes to the cavs, j.r. smith brings it back out, throws to hill. hill's shot blocked. we'll go to over time. >> the warriors used that second life to outscore the cavs by ten in over time. got a 124-114 victory.

brown. he also designed the bag that lebron was carrying, retailing for $41,000. abc 7 is the only place you can watch the nba finals presented by youtube tv. game two happens sunday at oracle arena. we'll have a pregame show at 4:00. abc coverage at 4:30 with tip-off at 5:00. please stay with us for toyota after the game. want to switch gears at 6:37. zuckerberg san francisco general hospital says it's implementing security changes after a woman's body was found in a stairwell. 75-year-old ruby lee anderson lived in a residential care facility on the hospital's campus. she went missing on may 20th. it's not known how long she had been in the stair well at the hospital's power plant. it's protocol to search every hospital building if the patient is reported missing. the power plant was searched because anderson wasn't technically considered a

patient. no badge was needed to get into the building during certain hours. the hospital has implemented a 24/7 security badge access policy. we may find out today whether san francisco police chief william scott will return to los angeles to become their new chief. chief scott is reportedly one of three finalists for the job. in early may rumors started swirling he could be a candidate for lapd's top job after its police chief, charlie beck announced his retirement at the end of the year. mayor eric gar setity says he's had final ierviews wh all three finalists. a flag raising ceremony will ta place in concord. the city the flying the rainbow flag in honor of the ceremony starts at 10:30 if you want to head over. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. mother nature promised the coolest morning this week, and there you go. temperatures anywhere from about

two to seven degrees cooler than 24 hours ago. look at all these mid to upper 40s in the south bay. everybody, until you get to mountain view and san jose at 50. we have 50 in newark. also in san carlos, brentwood, san francisco 51, san pablo at 53. it's june 1st. good news is because of the clear conditions, no delays at sfo. look at all the sunshine. no worrie weather wise driving. no stiff breezes if you're driving a high-profile vehicle. no drizzle this morning. chilly our mass transit stops to possibly warm this afternoon. very tranquil if you're on a ferry ride today. in fact, a nice day to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. san francisco, a pred here, 53 at 8:00, noon mid 60s all the way to 6:00 at 63. 60 at 8:00. a look at the south bay, a bigger spread, 54 at 8:00. mid to unper 70s from noon all the way through about 7:00.

accelerating plans to launch a self driving car service. >> they just announced a deal for 62,000 chrysler minivans. the service will launch later this year in arizona, making them the first company to pick up cars that do not have a human in the driver's seat. >> walmart ramping up competition with amazon. you can now text an order for delivery. the service is called jet black. it costs $50 a month. the items will be delivered to your home same day or next day at no extra charge. that service is being tested in manhattan and boston. also new this morning, a favorable jobs report out. u.s. employers added 223,000 jobs in may. get this, the unemployment rate fell to an 18-year low, just 3.8%. let's take a live look at the new york city. you can see we're in the green up 223 points, nearly 1%.
