good morning bay area. let's get up and get going. >> it's saturday, june 2nd. good morning, and thanks for being with us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with a first look at the forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen tracking the conditions where you are. >> summertime temperatures are in full swing. we are three weeks away from summer. no fog at the beach. near 70 at our local beaches. near 80 in santa cruz. 64 in mountain view. san jose with 65. emeryville right now is comfortable. later on today it will be near 80 degrees. 59 in santa rosa. 70 by the delta.

livermore is 61. so the numbers are climbing quickly. by noontime we will number the mid 80s innd la. upper 70s around the bay. staying in the mid to upper 60s for some beaches. other beaches approaching 70. look at the 4:00 p.m. temps. in the upper 90s. slight cooling for your sunday. details with my full accuweather seven-day forecast coming up. lisa thanks. developing news. california highway patrol is investigating a fatal crash on the west bound lanes of 580 in dublin. it happened after midnight and left four of the five lanes closed for hours at the santa rita exit. the circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation. the chp says the accident involved two cars and a pedestrian who was found in the roadway. that pedestrian died at the scene. lanes on the freeway have since reopened. happening today, rallies are planned in several bay area cities to call attention to gun violence in our communities. today is national gun violence awareness day.

hundreds are expected to wear the color orange and march across the golden gate bridge at 11:30 this morning to help bring attention to the issue. the event is being sponsored by the brady campaign to prevent gun violence. two other rallies are planned. one at 9:00 a.m. at the redwood city train station and one at 10 a.m. at john franks. mark in santa cruz. a 15-year-old boy is in jail this morning after a violent attack early whier this week. three teenagers were assaulted with a hammer at a sleepover, including one who is still in the hospital. abc 7 news reporter carlos asido has the details of the arrest and the search for more suspects. >> reporter: in apartment owes a home surveillance system went up at the home where a group of masked men entered and assaulted three teenage boys with a hammer. word spread in the neighborhood that a 15-year-old boy from watsonville was arrested in connection with the brutal crime. >> when there is more understanding about what happened, it's easier to rest easy. >> reporter: all three teens received head injuries.

one of the victims, 17-year-old alex, continues to recover and is now in stable condition. >> we recognize the importance of this case, how brutal and violent it was, and the importance of making a quick arrest in this case was a priority. >> reporter: detectives say the incident was a robbery that turned into the attack. they are not releasing what was stolen but say drugs were found at the victim's property. despite this one arrest investigators believe there were more involved who may be be found saying the victims knew their attackers. >> there are others in this attack that are anticipated. it's just a matter of time before they identify the rest of them and make arrests. >> reporter: sheriffs say they will continue to work this case until all those respug anyone wh information is asked to call the sheriff's office. in aptos, abc7 news. >> a go fund me has been set up for the teen's family. it raised more than $43,000 of its $50,000 goal. if you want to donate you can

find a link at our website, abc7news.com. newly released court documents in the golden state killer case show exactly how investigators got the dna that led they will to joseph d'angelo. there were two samples. one came from a used tissue pulled out of a trash can. investigators also swabbed his car door handle when d'angelo went inside a hobby lobby in roseville back in april. and then they sent to it a crime lab for analysis. d'angelo was in court again yesterday as the judge made the ruling to unseal and release the documents. they provide graphic details of the crimes he is accused of committing. however, anything to do with a sex crime is not being released since charges have yet to be filed. you have another chance to see abc7's special presentation chasing the golden state killer. it will air tomorrow at 10:00 p.m. right here on abc7. in santa rosa, a city park that memorializes a teenage who was shot and killed by a police

officer nearly five years ago is set to open today. andy's unity park is dedicated to 13-year-old andy lopez who died in 2013. he was carrying an air soft beebee gun that looked like an ak-47. a deputy ordered lopez to drop the weapon and shot the boy after he said lopez pointed the gun in his direction. the park is located on horizon way in the moreland neighborhood. >> the time now is 8:05. conservative evangelical graham brought his conservative message to berkeley last night. hundreds gathered to hear his message and others rallied to denounce graham's teachings. abc7 news reporter katie utehs has the story. >> got hears prayer. >> reporter: reverend franklin graham preached in berkeley on friday night. one of two stops on his california tour. >> everybody said don't go to berkeley. so yeah -- if they say not come i'm going to come. >> reporter: graham's name draws a crowd. his late father was the evangelical billy graham.

in berkeley, katie utehs, abc7 news. we have disturbing video from san francisco that shows a man kicking and injuring a small dog. this was taken yesterday near third and market. you can see a small dog approach a man. and he appears to kick it. the dog comes up to the man again. and this time he kicks it so hard it goes flying up against the building. san francisco animal care and control say the dog has a fractured skull and would like the public's help in identifying the suspect. officials in the east bay are fearful whoever is maiming and torturing puppies there could also be abusing people. abc7 news reporter leslie brinkley introduces us to the third puppy found in a garbage heap this week. >> this is chloe. this is one of the beautiful pets, one of the beautiful dogs who has been tortured and mutilated. >> reporter: chloe and two other 4-month-old puppies were not starved. they were not in a dogfighting ring. they were socialized and they were abused.

this female husky shepard mix just underwent major reconstructive surgery on her jaw. she was the third puppy found in oil and paint at 89th avenue and g street in oakland over the weekend. >> two dogs were found left in a trash pile with significant injuries. the one dog had its foot cut off. the other had its jaw broken. >> you look good. >> reporter: this dog's jaw break was severe. she is recovering from extensive surgery in foster care in fremont. her sister is getting along with a severed rear paw. officials here say they have never seen this level of animal cruelty with someone using a tool of some kind to pull apart the puppy's jaws. purposeful mutilation. >> if we have an individual who is doing this to animals, are they going to or have they done this to a human being? it could be a child or a baby. >> reporter: a task force is working with investigators to interview witnesses, scour

surveillance video, and piece together a license plate of who may have dumped the dogs. >> task force is to bring attention to and focus on and resources to animal abuse as crimes. >> reporter: as these dogs heal, officials are asking for the public's help. there is a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. in oakland, leslie brinkley, abc7 news. if you are a warriors fan watching stub hub to find the best deals for tomorrow's game two of the nba finals you might notice the market has been out of whack. espn reported that game one was not a sellout. the warriors had hundreds of seats for sale moments before tip-off. after a close game that was decided in overtime standing room tickets for game two could be bought for $250. but yesterday afternoon that price doubled. longtime ticket sellers are saying after four straight finals appearances the excitement is a little different. >> first year is a whole band

loved ones of the victims can access. family members asked for a final search of the debris for any human remains or personal items. flight 93 was bound for san francisco from newark, new jersey. the move will happen later this year. 40 victims of the attacks were killed on the flight. this weekend, beach-goers in pacifica are being told to watch out for sharks. a great white shark was spotted south of the pacifica pier yesterday, not far from surfers. abc7 news reporter cornell barnard has the details. >> reporter: a chp chopper spotted this in the water south of the pacifica pier 12:30 on friday. the chp said it appeared to be a great white shark about 12 feet long. pacifica police quickly posted these warning signs along the beach. >> got to be cautious. >> reporter: this woman kept a close eye on her kids. >> i'm definitely going to keep us up here on the sand and, no swimming. >> reporter: police tweeted out the shark warning and alerted neighbors on next door saying no aggressive behavior by the shark was reported. we ask beach-goers to be careful and aware of their surroundings when visiting our beaches.

hours later sky 7 spotted what looked like the same shark swimming off the coast, this time only hundreds of feet away from surfers. this surfer is relieved it never got too close. >> to see one right where i surf and right where i live, it's not good. >> reporter: other surfers didn't care. what do you think about that? >> whatever. >> reporter: shark experts say great white sightings are rare but not uncommon for the bay area. but they typically aren't spotted until september or october when pacific waters get warmer. >> what is around this time of year is a subadult, a younger white shark, that might be hunting for a small marine mammal. >> reporter: the professor says this shark likely wants to travel and could be 80 miles away from here by this weekend. in pacifica, cornell barnard, abc7 news. the annual auction to have lunch with billionaire investor warren buffet has ended. the winner, glide memorial

at the beach, upper 60s. near 70 in ocean beach. upper 70s in santa cruz. the water temperature, 53. and money ray will be sunny at 71 degrees. in and around the bay today we are looking very warm out there. 80 in oakland. 86 in voyage. 95 by the delta. you are not going to have that della breeze. looking at upper 80s around palo alto. these numbers are anywhere from ten to 15 degrees above. >> yeah. and a good jump from yesterday, with 90 in the silicon valley. if you are looking for something to do on the peninsula, we have the biggest little air show. this is today, with temperatures climbing through the 60s quickly. low to mid 70s in the afternoon. in the upper 70s by 1:00. in san francisco today, the union street festival, where it will be a nice afternoon. but it's going to be actually warmer today, with mid 70s. temperatures in the 50s overnight. and looking at 71 tomorrow. so certainly a little bit cooler tomorrow. only around the coast. but elsewher, boys, it's still going to be hot.

this mornin -- by 9:00 this morning. we are going to be in the low 90s inland. 80s in san re home. inspect oakland. by the evening we are still in the 90s inland with temperatures slow to cool. it's going to be a warm night tonight. 9:00. some 80s. and 70s for much of you. it's going to be a warm night for sleeping. in fact, will we be that much warmer tomorrow? i will let you know coming up. the candidates for governor of california are making their final push for votes. there is a lot at stake in tuesday's jungle primary. it will be the two highest vote getters who make it to the general election in november regardless of party affiliation. >> reporter: polls show antonio villaraigosa in trouble in the governor's race. president trump and a boost from democratic front-runner gavin newsom. >> people are looking for a change in management.

i am a businessman, not a politician. i think that's what this state needs. >> newsom is running ads that align cox with trump because he would rather face the republican than villaraigosa. cox's background is similar to trump's. that's something he hopes will propel him to the general. >> i welcome the president's support. i welcome it because he has actually gotten things accomplished. people have differences with his style. i get it. but you know what? it's results that count. >> something else that hurts villaraigosa, a crowded democratic field. >> you have easton and chung, whose numbers are low. but when you put them together that's another fund of democratic votes villaraigosa can't get. i think it is a reflection of newsom's strength at the top of the ticket. but also the fact that there just aren't enough democratic votes to possibly to get a second democrat in. >> reporter: california's state treasurer john chung campaigned in boil heights friday.

>> i think we all care about a governor who understands math, who will balance the budget like everyday californians have to do, who will make sure we money available for education. >> reporter: the big question, how will the two candidates who move forward after the primary impact voter turnout in november. >> for the first time i can recall, the governor's race is a tool or piece of house races, not the other way around. >> reporter: josh haskell. contra costa county elections officials are predicting a dismal voter turnout for the june 5th primary. the county planned for a 50% turnout. now they say that figure could fall below 30%. the prediction is based on mail in ballots. the county sent out 400,000 ballots. so far only 62,000 have been mailed back. >> there will be a low turn out for not just the primary for the governorship. but a lot of local races that are very important to various communities as well as ballot measures. >> by contrast, just over 75% of

eligible californians are registered to vote this primary. that's the highest percent of eligible citizens registered to vote in a california gubernatorial primary in 64 years. a stanford study showing political views ahead of the election shows the californian liberal stereotype may be a myth. the study says just 39% view themselves as democrat, 24 as independent, and 16% reported being republican. 15% were unsure. according to data released by the secretary of state yesterday more than 25% of voters are registered with no party preference. this is the final weekend before the election. we have stocked a section on our website with useful information at abc7news.com/election. that's where you will find a local voting guide, videos to help you meet the candidates in major races, and an explanation of how ranked choice voting works. time now is 8:33.

in san jose, animal control officers are trying to get the word out about a rabid bat that was found in a park in the city's willow glen neighborhood. it is the third positive test in santa clara county this year. >> reporter: at willow street frank brandao park in san jose -- >> you can come to the park not thinking of what could happen. you come with the idea of wanting to have a good time. >> reporter: these signs alert the public about a bat found year the baseball field that tested positive for rabies. >> this bat, does it have a family that is infected. >> reporter: wild life removal specialists say it is rare to see bats in residential areas but it's not out of the ordinary. >> it could have come from an attic somewhere or in the trees, living in the hollow of a tree somewhere, maybe in wall up against the sun. >> reporter: the discovery was made by a visitor monday afternoon as families packed the park for the memorial day holiday. officers with animal care and services quickly responded. >> leave the animal alone and contact our agency immediately.

and then we will respond. >> reporter: health officials say this was the third bat to test positive for rabies in santa clara county this year. infected animals can pass the virus by biting others. in rare cases it can also be spread if infected saliva gets into an open wound or a mucous membrane such as mouth or eyes. the virus can also be fatal for humans and pets. >> i'm shocked. a little frightened because i have a pet. and i let her -- she does well off leash. >> reporter: for now visitors remain on guard. >> what's to say there isn't another infected animal, squirrel or other animals that are running around the park that could easily come into contact with my kid or myself or someone else? >> anyone who might have come in contact with the bat is encouraged to contact their doctor as soon as possible. one of the first pride celebrations in the bay area this year is set to happen later today in concord. the rainbow community center is inviting everyone out for concord pride from 3:00 to 9:00 at todos santos plaza.
