good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thank you for joining us on sunday, june 3rd. let's go to our meteorologist liee argen. good morning, everyone. we have very warm temperatures inland for the afternoon. here's a look at live doppler 7, some patchy fog along the peninsula and well inland. and temperatures are pretty mild in the 50s to near 60 in liver mr, freemont, 52 in novato. and temperatures are warmer than this time yesterday.

2 to 6 degrees warmer through the 7:00 hour. then we reach the mid-80s inland. cooling arrives at the coast today, but by the afternoon we are still in the 90s inland. maybe not quite as hot, but overall you'll feel the effects of an afternoon sea breeze strengthening co-side and around the bay. and we'll talk about how long the cooling trend will last in a couple minutes. thank you, lisa. we are just hours away from game two of the nba finals at oracle. clay tompson is planning to play in the first quarter of game onone thompson was uncut and suffered a left the court. he says he's angry about what happened. >> it was a tough play on the ball. and then to tumble through somebody's legs like that, you

unruly passengers were getting in the way of the investigation. bart opened a bus passage but they have not said whether the station will be open this morning. this morning sheriff's deputies are looking for a man who tried to kidnap a woman in watsonville. this is a sketch of the suspect. deputies say around 4:00 yesterday afternoon he grabbed the 27-year-old woman from behind as she gathered items in her car. she screamed and managed to break away. the suspect drove off in a mid-'90s light blue two-door honda accord with sun damage on the paint. he's described as in his late 30s, 6 feet tall, thin build, wearing a black short-sleeve shirt with red and white lettering and black shorts. firefighters remain on the scene of a fire in west oakland.

droneview 7 was over it when fire was poured on it overnight. crews were there processing metal. katie has the details. >> it is not healthy at all. it's still dark, it's not good as all. >> reporter: many could see the black plume smoke from as far as marin. this business helps recycle metal. >> it is not good to breathe in. i will pray for their safety and health. >> this is a regular day of production for us. so again, we're determining the root cause of this particular fire. >> so the residue on the metal is probably what started it? >> reporter: droneview7 shows the fire in acre in size and half of it was on fire. >> hearing and seeing explosions --

>> reporter: you could hear the popping noise in the background, that's the fire. >> within the pile, we did have some explosions and shrapnel that went up into the air. >> reporter: nearby agencies brought in water tankers and boats to help douse the flames. after two hours of fighting, they got it under control. representatives from the bay area air quality management district responded and took a report. in west oakland, katie utis, abc 7 news. >> there have been two other fire there in the past ten years. you're looking at at at at at at from a fire in 2011. we know the identities of the two climbers who died after falling from yosemite's el yost capitan. they plunged to their deaths around 8:15 yesterday morning. park rangers received several calls moments after the tragedy. investigators say the men were trying to ascend el capitan on

the free blast route. >> there's a lot of unanswered questions. and it will be several days to possibly several weeks before we really understand what happened today. as far as exactly where they were, how high they were, what type of gear they were using, these are all unanswered questions. >> yesterday's deaths came less than two weeks after this man from new jersey died while climbing another famous peak in yosemi yosemite, half dome. in the north bay, a park has been dedicated in memory of a santa rosa teenager shot and killed by a sonoma county sheriff's deputy back in 2013. so there are many who hope the park named after andy lopez will bring unity and healing to the community. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard has the story. >> jesus invites us to pray always. >> reporter: there were prayers in memory of andy lopez at the dedication ceremony of a new park that bears his name.

aztec dancers performed a blessing ceremony at the new county park. construction worker cliff nacamura helped to build andy's park and hopes the 4 acre space will indeed unite. >> from now as you reflect on this park and you look and drive by, it will start to heal and mend what has happened in the past. >> the park built on the same lot where lopez was fatally shot by a sonoma county deputy in 2013, lopez was carrying an air soft bb gun to resemble an ak-47. investigators say the deputy opened fire when lopez turned and raised his weapon. following the shooting, there were protest marches demanding justice. a small memorial went up at the scene of the the. >> in themry of >> this has memory boxes with

his picture. >> today is a remembrance of andy and his life and the tragedy that unfolded here and the community moving forward. >> the ceremony too emotional for andy lopez's mother. andy's aunt spoke on her behalf. >> we'll continue to struggle together in his memory so that this will never happen again. >> reporter: the deputy was cleared of wrongdoing of the shooting back in 2016, but friends still want justice. >> if we keep fighting for it, maybe the cop will be off the streets but they will never have their son back. >> reporter: the lopez family ended the ceremony by releasing white doves symbolizing peace. thousands of people marched across america yesterday calling for an end to gun violence. that included a group right here in the bay area. abc 7 news was at the golden gate bridge for a rally at the san francisco end of the iconic span. yesterday marked the third year

for the wear orange march on gun violence awareness day. >> we are demanding an end to gun violence. wear orange is all about common sense gun laws and wearing orange to support the 96 americans that lose their lives to gun violence every day. orange was chosen because hunters wear orange to protect themselves. so the idea is we wear orange to protect ourselves. >> the wear orange campaign began after the 2013 shooting death of this young woman in chicago. her fellow high school students organized the campaign as a tribute to her memory. happening today, the city of richmond is holding a rainbow pride event. the event is at marina way park at the corner of regatta boulevard and melville square. the fun starts at 10:00 this morning and goes until 3:00. richmond rainbow pride is a group of lgbtq individuals and allies who live, work and/or play in or near richmond.

this terrifying scene unfolded during a little league baseball in maine. young players and coaches running for their lives. moments after the driver zig-zaged around the field, the witnesses say she hit a 68-year-old man pushing children out of the way. the man tried to close a gate so the driver wouldn't be able to escape. he died while being rushed to a hospital. police eventually captured the driver. the 51-year-old woman faces manslaughter charges. and we are getting our first idea of the economic impact of the kilauea old svolcano on haw big island. the head of the tourism board says tourism is down 80% to 90%

since the eruptions began. most of the hawaii volcano conservative national park has been closed for weeks. an the norwegians cruise lines suspended weekly stops in hilo all costing millions. restaurants usually packed are suffering a big decrease in business. >> we had to cut our staff, reduce hours, we even have to shut down every tuesday. >> for the people here in southeast kilauea, it is really bad. >> kilauea began spouting lava, ash and rocks nearly a month ago. it's also threatening a geothermal plant. that's where officials say lava has burned down a substation and warehouse that stored a drilling rig. at least 87 homes have been destroyed. and new this morning, a report shows that nearly half of bay area residents want to pack up and move. the reason? the high cost of housing. a survey by the bay area council

of business backed public advocacy group shows 46% of residents surveyed are likely to move out of the region in a few years. that's up from 40% last year. bay area home prices have been climbing for six years. in april, the median sale price rose to $850,000. and many san francisco civic leaders and other luminaries climbed halfway to the stars on saturday to honor the singer who has touched hearts all over the world by leaving his in san francisco. abc 7 news anchor eric thomas reports. >> come on, i want to hear you. >> reporter: a stuntman disguised as tony bennett repelled from the building. then bennett performed "i left my heart in san francisco" back in 1961.

tony bennett way! >> eric thomas, abc 7 news. and in a city often divided by politics, the board of sup supervisors voted unanimously to rename part of mason street for tony bennett and signing it into law turned out to be the last act perform bid mayor ed lee before his saudden death last december. happening today, dozens of cyclists are hitting the road for the 25th annual ride to end aids. cyclists will set out in an hour and 15 minutes from the cow palace. day one will end 82 miles later in santa cruz. this is video from the earlier ride. the ride called aids life cycle lasts seven days and wraps up a week from today in l.a. the goal is to raise money and awareness for people living with hiv and aids.

good morning to you, sunday morning. live doppler 7 showing you a little bit of fog along the san mateo coast. otherwise, we are clear and the atmosphere is too dry to form any of the stratus. and the bigger picture shows a dome of high pressure carving out a niche here over much of california. but it is beginning to shift to the east. as it does, our wind shifts to allow for an onshore push. a long look outside walnut creek, nice and clear out there in san francisco, 55. oakland, 57. gilroy, 56. and on the coast, a cool 58 degrees. and from our tower camera, just glowing out there. and numbers have cooled off in the north bay. low 50s now in santa rosa and novato at 52. by the delta, a light southwest wind there and the heat will be with us in the inland valleys starting out in the 60s. so the sea breeze we get along the coast today, just locally may be about a half mile to a mile. so that means elsewhere we're

warming up quick we'll call for another hot day inland. cooler and breezier at the coast today. more widespread cooling tomorrow. and the temps will be below average by the middle of the week, so that roller coaster of the warmth and then the cool down continues. here we are this morning, 9:00, you will notice the winds offshore. and the direction moving more toward onshore component. 5 to 10 miles an hour winds inside the bay. and you can see the westerly wind and 34-mile-an-hour gusts here along the coast. 6:00 on monday, still that trajectory from the west. and the winds ramp up a little more out of the '90s. even the inland valleys monday afternoon. even breezier conditions. so today, just at the coast you'll feel that tomorrow

widespread breezier winds are around the bay. at the beaches, the upper 6 0stz and patchy fog. but overall, you have a sunny day here. and looking at temps happens on tuesday. a few 80s inland and more 70s here. and by wednesday, some of the coolest days with the greens making their way a little further across the bay. so we're looking at today, the last day of the heat, low to mid-90s inland. 87 today in fremont. 86 in palo alto. san francisco, checking in at 72. and santa rosa, still warm at 90 degrees. and the final game, game two, 77 degrees in oakland with temperatures dropping into the 60s. a beautiful afternoon. the accuweather seven-day forecast features the warmth today. the 80s and the 90s in the bay side. cooler weather for everyone on monday and getting the jackets

it happened to a san francisco viewer. michael finney helped him out. >> you can see the rust coming through. >> reporter: calvin chow shows us the rust on the outside of his company. >> home depot gave me an estimate. >> reporter: he signed a contract with home depot to replace the gutters for $4,000. >> he said, we should get it done within three weeks. i was impressed. >> reporter: however, three weeks later no one came to do the work. calvin called home depot. >> i said, you told me to be installing this within three weeks, not order it. >> reporter: five weeks passed and still no one claim to replace gutters. >> then rainy season kind of starts. >> reporter: work was delayed due to rain. the gutters leaking in the storms. >> fast forward two months. >> reporter: finally after all the waiting, home depot told calvin they could not replace his gutters after all. >> i don't think you can do your job. huh?

i said, we have a signed contract. >> reporter: and he had paid in full. >> well, we are sorry about that, mr. chow, we'll send you the money within three to four days. >> however, two weeks later, chow didn't have gutters or a refund and he called home depot. >> i'll have you look at the paperwork. you haven't started yet! >> reporter: we contacted home depot. the company said it had already begun processing his refund. calvin did get his $4,000 back. home depot also tells us it couldn't do the job because calvin's gutters are embedded in his roof. that requires roof work that was not part of the country and ensured of. home depot tells us, we never want a customer to be sis satisfied, so we apologize to mr. chow for the inconvenience and are glad t get ts resolved. >> keep up the good rk. >> reporter: home depot is one

we look outside from the exploratorium camera, it is clear in the city. it's comfortable with temperatures ranging from the upper 40s at half-moon bay, 55 in san francisco, 56 in gilroy, a few 60s for mountain view to san jose. and this nice-looking view from our roof camera, we can see the flag pretty still. 53 in santa rosa and napa. 54 in novato. and the inland valleys today will be quite warm. look at the 7:00 temperatures, the upper 60s there. still in the 50s by the coast. and by noontime, we're in the 80s to near 90 out east of the e tunnel. in the 60s downtown. by 4:00, notice the spread. 50s along the around the bay. we'll have much more coming up. thank you, lisa. now to the political headline of washington. the secret memo just revealed a

20-page controversial correspondent sent by president trump's team earlier this year to special counsel robert mueller trying to make the case behind the scenes that the president cannot obstruct justice. abc news white house correspondent tara palmieri has the details. >> reporter: a shocking memo leaked to "the new york times." the 20-page memo reportedly hand-delivered to the special counsel's office in january making broad claims the president cannot be guilty of obstruction in the russia collusion case or given a subpoena to speak to his defense team argues that, quote, as the chief law enforcement officer, it would amount to him obstructing himself. they also added he had the power to, quote, terminate the inquiry or exercise his power to pardon. >> does the president have the unfettered power as president

clinton had and president reagan -- i used to work on the pardon for clinton, he gave out far fewer pardons than president obama and president trump. i'm a big believer in the president's power. >> reporter: rudy giuliani confirmed the contents of the letter to abc news. telling abc news, quote, if mueller tries to subpoena us, we're going to court. the memo stating, quote, in light of the voluntary offerings, your office clearly lacks the requisite need to interview the president. >> what happens if robert mueller subpoenas the president, will you comply? >> well, we don't have to. he's the president of the united states. we can assert the same privilege other presidents have. >> reporter: 40 minutes before the publishing of "the new york times" story, the president accusing the justice department and the special counsel of leaking the letter tweeting, when will the very expensive witch hunt hoax ever end? so bad for our country. is the special counsel/justice department leaking my lawyers' letters to the fake news media? should be looking at the

democrats instead? giuliani tells abc news this is the latest example of why he and the president are waging a pr battle with the team. and you saw rudy giuliani there with george stephanopoulos. he will be the one guest and talk about the memo. that airs at 8:00 this morning followed by abc 7 news at 9:00. and another dog has died on a plane. this time on a delta airlines flight from phoenix to newark. the dog was found dead in his cage during a stopover in detroit. abc news reporter daria has the report and response from the airline. >> reporter: a family looking for answers as to what their paomeranian on a flight with delta airlines. >> we want to know what happened to our dog. he was not a pet, he was a

family member. >> he was on a flight from phoenix to newark. he was checked during a stopover in detroit at 6:00 a.m. and was fine. but before taking off for newark, alejandro was found dead. >> the delta personnel contacted the dog's owner and explained to them what had happened. >> reporter: delta initially gave the family's attorney until 5:00 on friday to pick up the dog but he requested more time traveling to detroit on saturday. >> i did go to the delta cargo where supposedly alejandro, the dog is. i was asked to leave the facility or the sheriffs would be called. i asked to see the dog, see alejandro. they wouldn't allow me to see alejandro and ordered me off the property. i left. >> reporter: their attorney also represented another family whose french bulldog died while on a united flight this past march after a flight attendant made the family put the puppy in his carry-on case in an orhead bin. that family reaching a settlement with united. the department of transportation says $506,994 animals were

transported on u.s. airlines in 2017. of those, 24 died. delta telling abc news they are conducting a thorough review of the situation to find out more about why this may have occurred to ensure it doesn't happen again. delta offered to have alejandro evaluated by a veterinarian to learn more. more than two dozen rescue dogs have found new forever homes in san francisco. yesterday abc 7 news was in the mission district when the pool party was conducted. they will face an extra charge after taking in 25 dogs from a solano county woman who died. she was active in the dog rescue community. now others will continue to care for the dogs she >> this is absolutely amazing. they do so much good to help everyone. and all they really care about are the dogs finding homes.

>> we have had lines almost out the door. we usually have about six adoptions on a regular saturday. and we have had 26 adoptions today. >> muttville's pool party continues today. a red light didn't stop a newborn baby from coming into the world. this woman and her husband were on their way to the hospital in oregon. they stopped at a red light just across the street from the medical center, but the baby would not wait. she gave birth in the backseat. other people on the road said this was no ordinary commute. >> i think a lady noticed that she did have a baby. she was like, whoa. >> the cord was attached still. >> she said, this lady is delivering next to me. >> it was panic mode in the parking lot. i'm like, it's okay. slow down, she's slippery. i don't have a seat belt on. >> well, she gave birth to a

happening today, it's the sixth annual open streets in berkeley. shattuck, telegraph streets will be closed. the event begins at 10:00 and goes until 5:00. food, music and a pet parade highlight the day. also happening today, it's another day of sunday streets in san francisco. today's event will be in the sunset district. it's the longest most scenic route traveling through golden gate park and along the great highway. there will be plenty of activities including a health and fitness booth, cooking demonstrations and a by class. it is also the union street festival going on today. so a lot of events out in this heat. yeah, beautiful in the city. it will be really nice with temperatures topping to nut the low 70s there. but inland, if you have the

8:00, 66 degrees. the upper 70s by 10:00. then by noontime, you're flirting with 90. mid-90s throughout the afternoon. and then the temperatures at dinnertime still into the 80s. 8:00, you're well into the 70s. so certainly a warm day again today to hot. and as we look at the roof camera, very little breeze out there. everything is nice and still. that's going to change as our sea breeze kicks up throughout the day today. you'll feel it downtown. big dome of high pressure still in control. it is shifting to the east. that's going to allow for our winds to shift to a more onshore component and cool us off a bit. but this morning we are anywhere from 2 to 6 degrees warmer than yesterday. so that means we have a head-start on the warmth today. and those winds still slightly offshore in the upper elevations. in the upper elevations, that's where we are looking at the 70s this morning. 55 in san francisco. 57 in oakland with mid-50s in gilroy. 60 for you in mown vin view. good morning, san jose, 61.

46 along the coast. the golden gate bridge, another sun new day at the beach with temperatures here fairly comfortable. but you'll notice the sea breeze today, 53 in santa rosa and napa. 54 no novato. the 64 in concord. it was a hot one everywhere yesterday. and today, another hot one inland. the cooler conditions, breezy winds at the coast. and somewhat around the bay late in the day. then more widespread cooling tomorrow with the numbers dropping out of the '90s into the 80s. and looking at temperatures in the 70s, below average for the middle of the week. another 90 today in san jose. 89 in santa clara. 87 in sunnyvale. looking at the peninsula numbers, the upper 80s thanks in part to the sea breeze in redwood city. los all toast, the mid-80s. 76 in millbrae. a comfortable day in the city. 68 in the sunset.
