when the worst oil spill hit san francisco, first responders went to work. and mayor gavin newsom, he went to hawaii. man: newsome left the day after the spill for a four-day vacation in hawaii. the same gavin who said his job as lieutenant governor was so dull, he only showed up for work at the state capitol one day a week, tops. gavin's not gonna work as governor.

around 4:00 yesterday afternoon he grabbed a 27-year-old woman from behind. she screamed and managed to break away. the suspect drove off in a mid-90s light blue honda accord with sun damage on the paint. firefighters remain on the scene of this fire in west oakland. drone view 7 was over head has water was pureed on the flames last night. the water started while crews were processing metal. abc 7 news reporter has the details. >> it's not healthy at all. you see it's dark. >> reporter: residents watched from the overpass.

others could see the black smoke plume. many are concerned about the toxic nature of the material. the fire started around 4:00 as crews process scrap. >> this is a regular day of production for us. we're determining if root cause of this particular fire. >> the residue on the metal is probably what started it. >> reporter: the pile is about an acre in size and firefighters estimate half of it was on fire. after about two hour of fighting, they got it under control. representatives from the bay area management district responded and took a report.

north bay. we had plenty of 90s yesterday. 61 in oakland. 70 in mountain view. winds are light now. 69 san jose. 73 in gilroy. temperatures are in the 80s. we will be looking at that cool down just limited to the shoreline tomorrow. our friends in the inland valleys will dramatically cool down. 67 santa rosa. 72 in novato. check out the upper 70s by the delta. no wind there and low to mid-70s. concord and livermore at the beach well into the 70s. another hot day inland.ier at t coast. temperatures will be below average by the middle of th loog at the lack of wind as we go throughout the day today and then the winds turn straight on shore. it's 5 clock and they are beginning to pick up 10 to 20 miles an hour at the coast.

we contacted home depot. the comad already begun processing his refund and he did get his $4,000 back. home depot also tells us it couldn't do the job because calvin's gutters are embedded in his roof. that requires roof work that was not part of the contract and should have been anticipated earlier. home depot tells us we never want a customer to be dissatisfied so we jieed to mr. chow for the inconvenience and glad we could get this resolved. >> thank you. keep up the good work. >> reporter: home depot is only about one of a dozen contractors that have put up a money and now hold a special performance bond allowing it to collect full payment up front. most contractors can charge only 10% down or $1,000, which ever is less. for most contractors, you should not pay in full. only pay that lesser amount up front. i'm michael finney, 7 on your

thousands of athletes are biking through san francisco getting ready for a final might mile run to marina green. in the 28th annual escape from
