three alarm fire prompted mandatory evacuations today at awooden pallet factory in sonoma county. this is not the first time there is a fire at this location. a similar fire burned here at in 2013. i'm larry beil. >> i'm ama daetz. the fire is burning on fremont drive at the company. abc news reporter wayne friedman is live on the scene with theist latest. >> reporter: it's better than it was a while ago. let's take a look behind us here. you see the white smoke. that's still there. but earlier today we had 100 foot flames and a propane tank explosion. take a look. firefighters knew this was coming. they heard the propane boiling. helps the evacuation of 500 people within a half mile. they had no idea where the tank would go.

it flew hundreds of yards. in the process it damaged several reviews in the storage yard. let's hear from fire chief ray mule zblies a total of about 7 or 8 damaged two of them were damaged from the remnant of the tank upon landing. it glanced off the back of two and skipped out through the field and ended up on highway 121. >> reporter: now we're looking at footage from sky7 .at their peak the flames towered 100 feet in the air. was wood burning from palettes. we are fortunate there are not winds as yesterday. those winds were as high as 35 miles an hour. as you said the same factory had a fire back in 2013 but they were different circumstances the chief told us. as we come back live again, there is the white smoke still going. not nearly as dangerous as it was. fire department people tell us they'll be mopping up from this for most of the night.

now, breed is considered by many to be a front runner but whoever gets the -- gets the top spot, he or she will have a very short term. lee's term ends in 2020 but he died in office in december last year. today's election decides who will serve out his term. the new mayor will take office as soon as election is certified. there will be another mayoral election in november of next year. the winner serving four years. there are three dominant candidates in the race. president of the board of supervisors londed borrowed. supervisor jane kim and sfrorm senator mark leno. if breed is elected she will be the first black female mayor in this city. if kim assumes the spot shell be the first asian-american female. if leno gets it he would be the first openly gay mayor. all three progressives on most issues same-sex marriage. higher minimum wichmann. they oppose the crackdown on

millennials and finally baby boomers. >> can you give me the numbers, the overwhelming majorities, 51%. >> higher than 51 but just pairly about 55% of americans are okay with whoever they work with. >> okay. >> and then what we find is that we would kind of go deeper and find out that yes that was you know a preference. but that was followed by straight women. which were the next you know prenks group followed by straight men, lesbian women and transmen and transwomen. >> are you surprised at all? or give me a comparison because otherwise we're taking a snap shot in time. if we did this ten years ago do we have the numbers on that. >> that's why we did this research in the first place. i didn't see this research existing. i think at 55% that shows that we're on the -- you know, the precipice of something big. and yet there is a lot of work to go before at full acceptance. before we can all sing, one world after all.
