three alarm fire prompted mandatory evacuations today at awooden pallet factory in sonoma county. this is not the first time there is a fire at this location. a similar fire burned here at in 2013. i'm larry beil. >> i'm ama daetz. the fire is burning on fremont drive at the company. abc news reporter wayne friedman is live on the scene with theist latest. >> reporter: it's better than it was a while ago. let's take a look behind us here. you see the white smoke. that's still there. but earlier today we had 100 foot flames and a propane tank explosion. take a look. firefighters knew this was coming. they heard the propane boiling. helps the evacuation of 500 people within a half mile. they had no idea where the tank would go.

it flew hundreds of yards. in the process it damaged several reviews in the storage yard. let's hear from fire chief ray mule zblies a total of about 7 or 8 damaged two of them were damaged from the remnant of the tank upon landing. it glanced off the back of two and skipped out through the field and ended up on highway 121. >> reporter: now we're looking at footage from sky7 .at their peak the flames towered 100 feet in the air. was wood burning from palettes. we are fortunate there are not winds as yesterday. those winds were as high as 35 miles an hour. as you said the same factory had a fire back in 2013 but they were different circumstances the chief told us. as we come back live again, there is the white smoke still going. not nearly as dangerous as it was. fire department people tell us they'll be mopping up from this for most of the night.

now, breed is considered by many to be a front runner but whoever gets the -- gets the top spot, he or she will have a very short term. lee's term ends in 2020 but he died in office in december last year. today's election decides who will serve out his term. the new mayor will take office as soon as election is certified. there will be another mayoral election in november of next year. the winner serving four years. there are three dominant candidates in the race. president of the board of supervisors londed borrowed. supervisor jane kim and sfrorm senator mark leno. if breed is elected she will be the first black female mayor in this city. if kim assumes the spot shell be the first asian-american female. if leno gets it he would be the first openly gay mayor. all three progressives on most issues same-sex marriage. higher minimum wichmann. they oppose the crackdown on

republicans are hoping they'll have a candidate. millionaire baseman john cox pulled into second in polls after getting lots of support from president trump. he voted yesterday in san diego. former los angeles mayor antonio villaraigosa voted in l.a. today. the democrat has been polling in third but hoping a latino turn outwill boston him to second and shut republicans out of a shot at the top office. now analyst say newsom would have an easier battle in november against a republican given the state has seen a steady decline of republicanss. now just 25% of registered voters, the same as voters are no party preference. by the way as results come in tonight we'll be able to use this and show you county by county data in real time in the governor race we can even choose the various counties and show you how people are voting for particular candidates. we'll have that for the governor race and many other races ton you want to keep it here. larry. all right. we'll see you. efrmgts nearly a dozen candidates are listed on the ballot for lieutenant governor.

at valley view middle school with more on the threat, leslie brinkley. >> reporter: larry we are learning more today about the 13-year-old arrested saying he was just joking. guns were confiscated at his home. at snapchat that reported the threat to the fbi. last friday, online, a threat to shoot up valley view middle school on the last day was post-ed over the picture of an actress with an anti-gay slur and 30 gun emojis. >> there was a conversation between two juveniles. that conversation was reported to snapchat. snapchat was concerned about the content of that conversation. so they alerted the fbi. >> based on the ip address the fbi alerted concord police. the school threatened was valley view middle school in pleasant hill. the 13-year-old writing the threat was arrested friday night at his home in martinez. >> it was downplayed somewhat.

skies overnight. but a few clouds. and this is the pattern that has produced the really strong gusty wind we have right now. a center of low pressure to the southeast inland, a center high pressure offshore, a sharp pressure gradient between the systems producing the flow of wind from high pressure to low pressure. so we have the flow rate down along the coastline. and right now we are looking at earlier this evening gusts on the coast up to 40-mile-per-hour. as we system the wind gusts you can see overnight the winds inald around the bay calm down a wit while it remains windy on the coast. but in the day time tomorrow into the evening hours we'll see the rain sort of increasing again. another breezy and much cooler than average kay. look for highs of 58 tomorrow at half moon bay. 61 in san francisco. 63 across the bay in oakland. down in fremont, 66. 68 in san jose tomorrow. we'll see low to mid-70s in inland east bay. the north bay mainl l mid-70 on we go to the high temperature range over the next few days.
