live, this is abc7 news. >> a dub nation celebration, the warriors now one win away from their third nba championship in four years. we have much more on tonight's big win. >> but first to our top story, you may have noticed the smoke on your way home. a fire scene from miles in the east bay. tonight investigators are looking into what sparked the flames that spread to a junk yard. >> good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm alma daetz. a grass fire spread to a junk yard tonight in pittsburgh along the pittsburgh antioch highway. >> abc7 news reporter melanie woodrow is there. melanie. >> reporter: they have determined what caused this fire. they say a burning candle in a tent. they also say gusting winds spread the fire quickly. from sky 7 you could see thick dark plumes of smoke. >> this was all black. >> reporter: rodney stanley got the call just after 5:30 p.m. a

evgeny station fire that had spread to this junk yard. his family's paving equipment was parked here. >> when you work for that and to see it could be gone, it's scary, you know, because that's what puts food on the table. >> reporter: officials issued a public health advisory due to the smoke. >> the stuff that's burning is particularly nasty. it's tires, upholstery, and seats. >> reporter: helicopters dropped water from overhead. >> it looks like it's getting under control and just pray there's minimal damage. >> reporter: while investigators quickly determine the cause. >> a candle in a tent as part of a homeless encampment. >> reporter: officials say a firefighter injured his hand but returned to fighting the fire. two more people suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation. one of them was taken to the hospital. in pittsburgh, melanie woodrow, abc7 news. >> now to san francisco's mayoral race which is nowhere

near over. less than a percentage point separates the top two candidates, london breed and mark leno. abc7 news reporter lilian kim is here with the story tonight. lilian. >> reporter: tens of thousands of votes still need to be counted. and until they've all been processed, the san francisco department of elections will have updated results on the mayor's race every day at 4:00 p.m. the ballots keep coming in. those postmarked on or before election day are valid as long as they arrive by friday. >> so, today we received 13,000, almost 13,000 such ballots. we rechecked the postmarks and most of those ballots have good postmarks on them so it's 13,000 ballots that we didn't have yesterday, we have today. >> reporter: and every day the san francisco department of elections starts fresh counting all the ballots all over again. according to the latest count, roughly 75% of jane kim's voters chose mark leno as their second choice, while 25% chose breed. a difference that's pushing leno slightly ahead despite breed having captured the most first place votes in the first round.

no surprise that one day after the election the candidates have different views on the instant runoff system called rank choice voting. >> this is the one that we are dealing with as it relates to this race, so for now we're stuck with it. >> it promotes more positive campaigning because if i want your second vote i'm not going to drop a bomb on you. and so i think we saw that in this race as well. >> reporter: san francisco state professor and political analyst joe went through rank choice voting twice as a candidate for oakland mayor. >> it does feel a little unfair when you're the person who gets the most first place votes and you didn't win because you didn't get seconds and thirds. arguably if you want everybody's candidate you want to get more than 50% and not have to deal with rank choice. >> reporter: the race is too close to call and is expected to take days if not weeks to determine the winner. in san francisco, lilian kim abc7 news. >> meantime the two men facing off for governor in the november election did not waste any time getting out their message today. both democrat gavin newsom and

republican john cox talked today about how they'd be the best leader for california going forward. one issue, the candidates are at odds over and there will be many is the 12 cent a gallon gas tax that state lawmakers approved last year. >> i was looking for short-term gains and obviously my opponent is going to make that a big issue. but he's going to offer nothing in terms of an alternative. empty rhetoric. >> fix the cause of the problem. it's the special interest corruption, it's the waste of money at cal trans. that's what i'm going to be devote today when i'm the governor. >> the president tweeted his congratulations to cox this morning and took credit for the candida candidate's solid second place finish after the president's endorsement. >> a new squad at the fbi field office helped thwart the recent shooting threat at valley view middle school. parkland school shooting and arrived at threats in schools across the country. because a lot of resources are

needed to investigate the threats, other longer-term investigations were suffering. >> we think creating this group that are totally responsible for addressing these types of threats is a far better use of those resources. >> a 13-year-old student was arrested in connection with the valley view threat. police also say guns were found in the student's home. >> now, take a look at the surveillance video showing last week's crash between a truck and a smart train in santa rosa. a box truck drove through the crossing arms and was hit by the train. watch now. nailed. the train was going 77 miles an hour. the surveillance video was uploaded to the website jiffy cat. no one on the train was hurt. >> one win away. that's what dubs fans across the bay area are saying tonight. >> yeah, and it took an epic performance by kevin durant to seal this victory tonight. abc7 sports director larry beil

so, fans were treated to quite a show. the warriors dance team performed throughout the night. there was a dee jay, all sorts of swag giveaways and kiddos were having a blast. it was great to see so many families in the arena tonight. people loving the $20 watch party ticket price. the game was of course on the jumbotron and fans were here from all over the country, by the way, were blown away by the warriors' performance. >> the energy felt, it was ecstatic. it was contagious. kevin durant played the lights out. steph was a little bit shy. you know what, it happened, they picked each other up. >> those guys should be given five points for those baskets. they are just off the charts. >> it was a great game. yeah, game three, we got it. let's go! >> reporter: game three, here we come. after the game fans filed out of oracle to the plaza between the arena and the coliseum. there was a dance party complete with another dee jay and plenty

all right. you've got to see this. a startling seen in sacramento shows a driver out of control. witness nikky gwen shared this video with abc7 news. you see a driver repeatedly ramming his white chevy trail blazer into a honda crv on monday. he then jumps on the roof of that unoccupied crv and knocks out the windows. he's just going nuts. it is not known what led up to this. police arrested the driver and say he may have been on drugs.

>> the country's top sailors are moving to the bay area, a first of its kind olympic training facility is opening on treasure island. abc7 news anchor jessica castro explains how fast usa hopes to change the face of american sailing. >> go, go, go, go! oh, no! there we go. >> reporter: this is no ordinary sailing lesson. these kids are learning from one of the best in the world. we put on life jackets and took a ride with olympic medallist caleb payne as he taught a pair of 4th graders the basics of sailing. the u.s. sailing olympic team is moving to san francisco and they'll open their very first facility on the west coast. it's a home training base unlike any other. >> it's huge. it's something i've always wanted. >> reporter: clipper cove is where the fast usa facility will be located for advance sailing

and technology. >> we got together with u.s. sailing and decided that really what we needed was a full-time home for the olympic athletes, the staff, the coaches, the physiotherapists, all of that group, and as we got together and looked around the country, we decided that san francisco would be the best place for that permanent home. >> reporter: they'll be close to silicon valley where advances in technology can help the sport. and the windy weather in san francisco is perfect. >> god created what we think is the best sailing venue on earth. >> hold on to the mains. >> reporter: it's not just the olympic athletes that will benefit from the move. these novice sailors will also. >> when you get it turned out, whatter you going to do, away from you or towards you? >> towards me. >> exactly. >> for these kids to see a lane carved out in front of them is empowering. >> reporter: it's a three way partnership with u.s. sailing, saint frances sailing and treasure island. the foundation and center want to open up the sport to more

diversity through community sailing programs. >> our goal through fast is to have a pipeline. >> reporter: they run this program for public schools in san francisco. each year introducing sailing to nearly 1300 children. >> it's a huge step forward for this country, for she's sailors that want to race to the top of the podium. when you look out and see some of these kids, maybe they're going to be the next generation that wins some of those medals in ten year's time. >> it's honestly one of the greatest sports. from such a young age you learn responsibility for your equipment, time and distance, sportsmanship. it's one of the only self-policing sports at the olympic games. >> reporter: olympic training on the water started this month, but the fast facilities are still being set up. >> we'll have the facility planted located here within the next six months. >> reporter: the fast facility was actually donated by oracle and you may know that oracle has an america's cup team that just raced in bermuda last year. it will be the same structures and containers team oracle use there.

of the time lapse a short time ago. things are changing. take a look at live doppler 7. clouds and fog covering most of the bay area, visibility has lowered in half moon bay down to 6 miles so you will need to watch out at commute time. take a look at the temperatures. well, they are being held up by the cloud cover. most areas are in the 50s and 60s. it has been way too cool for you, just hang in there because take a look at what the temperatures are going to do. below average of 79 degrees tomorrow afternoon in livermore. 73 coming back up to average by friday. numbers will fall, come back up and then a real big heat up is coming as we head towards early next week. we're going to be seeing those 90s inland so it's going to feel like summer around here. as we are just over two weeks away from summer, a live look from the sfo camera. watch out tomorrow morning if you are flying out of there. could see some delays due to low visibility, low ceilings, low clouds and patchy morning drizzle. expecting cooler than average breezy conditions again tomorrow
