that brings up new concern about the limits of technology. >> kristen sze. thanks for joining us. a report released today from the ntsb raises new questions about the role of autopilot in a tesla crash in mountain view three months ago. >> killing an apple engineer. i team reporter dan noyes is following this closely with the new information. >> dan and kristen the final report won't be coming out for a year but more pieces of the puzzle fall into place. >> the ntsb says 38-year-old walter wong was using the autopilot function on the tesla model x for 18 minutes 5 a seconds before it crashed. he received two visual armistices and one auditory alert to place his hands on the wheel. those came more than 15 minutes before the crash. in the minute before the crash his hands were detected on the steer wheels on three separate occasions for a total of 34 seconds. the last six seconds the vehicle did not detect his hands on the wheel. >> tesla's autopilot determines

whether or not your hand is on the wheel by a certain amount of torque exerted on the we'll. if you rest your hand at the 6:00 position for example you won be exerting any pressure left or right. >> the ntsb report also found that wong had set his autopilot to 75 miles an hour in a 65 and was following a slower car. seconds before impact, the tesla began a left steering movement stopped following the car and accelerated from 62 to 70.8 miles an hour into the safety barrier. walter wong's family told me in april he was a very careful driver. >> we know that he is not the type who would not have his hands on the steering we'll. he just -- he has always been a ten a ticket in river. his entire life. >> wong's wife said he complained the tesla veered toward the same barrier on seven to ten occasions. >> and she want to show me a lot of time it not happen. >> he told you that the car
