. really sad news that just broke. cnn's anthony bourdain has died by suicide. best known for his food and travel show. we're working on a few more details and i'll have the full story for you guys in just a moment. really a shock. >> it is, and so many people around the world are checking in to social media with each other about this, because it's so hard to believe, this happening the same week that we lost kate spade. so it's top of mind for so many of us. >> a lot of people can't travel. he was really someone that took so many people around the world and allowed them to view into so

many different cultures. definitely a shock. >> we'll be continuing to cover that story with jessica throughout the morning. good morning to you. it's 5:00 a.m. on this friday, june 8th. >> let's start your day with a check of your weather. we'll get more on anthony bourdain in a moment. >> two people we really looked up to, thought they had life by the tail. you never know what's going on behind the stooens. that's the sadness that we all feel right now. let's take a look at the winds out there and try to put a bright spot on your day by talking about some warmer weather. we've got 15-mile-per-hour winds at sfo. only about 17 at fairfield. you notice the cloud deck, the gray out there not nearly as widespread. faster sunshine that will lead us to more average temperatures this afternoon. let me break it down for you, 7:00, temperatures around 53 to 56, staying in the 50s along the coast. your clouds will increase today. hitting low to mid 70s, 71 to 75 bay and inland for noon.

nice day to be at an outdoor cafe. 73 to 74 at 4:00. no blanket or coat at 7:00 this evening, temperatures 68 to 70. let's check on the commute. >> we have a crash we're keeping an eye on in the richmond area, westbound 80 just before hilltop drive. we have a two-car crash. it does sound pretty minor, although we have the left lane blocked. no injuries here. a very slight delay as you can see as you come from the highway 4 area. i think they'll be able to get that cleared fairly quickly. i am definitely keeping a close eye on that. that is in a tough spot if that's blocking for long. bay bridge toll plaza, definitely have a stackup in the cash lanes on the left-hand side. right side, if you're paying cash, looks better and through with middle with fastrak, no issues for you. we should have metering lights turning on around 5:25 this morning. we have an issue with the capitol corridor. we'll talk more about that next. so many of us floored by the

announcement that came down in the last 30 mississippi us. jessica castro, you're tracking this. >> so many people stunned by this news. cnn confirming that bourdain's death this morning, his cause of death was suicide. bourdain was in france working on an upcoming episode of his award winning food and travel series. his close friend found bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room this morning. cnn broke the story. they issued a statement saying in part, quote, his talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time. bourdain won nearly every award in the industry. the smithsonian once called him, quote, the original rock star of the culinary world. he wrote a best-selling book as well that really launched his career in this travel business and tv, just to many accolades. he will certainly be missed. >> thinking of his 11-year-old daughter as well this morning. we want to remind you, as

person lying on a sidewalk in san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood. the attacker here walking up and then kicks the person several times. the attacker wore a suit, black beanie and carried a broef case. the attack happened in late may on leavenworth between golden gate and mccallister. police are asking for your help identifying that man. 50,000 pounds of illegal fireworks were seized in a quiet east bay community. officials say it's the biggest bust in state history. >> abc 7 news reporting lisa amin gulezian talked with neighbors who say they never saw this coming. >> reporter: they raided a building with explosive material into side. in five other cities, authorities seized 25 tons of illegal fireworks and arrested seven people. >> these suspects have been illegally importing, transporting, storing, distributing and ultimately selling these products,

dangerous products throughout california. >> reporter: atf agents were in this quiet neighborhood in walnut creek arresting jack schroll and his wife tanya. they say the couple is part of this' elaborate fireworks ring. atf agents were in this home four times in one week. they found more fireworks, explosive devices and a mack 10 assault weapon. >> it's terrifying and shocking. assault rifle, too. wow. >> neighbors describe the couple as friendly, a bit quirky, but harmless. >> they were at your wedding? >> yeah. they were at our wedding with the two little girls. >> he had a lot of things over there for "burning man." had a cool jet-powered flame thrower he built several years ago. >> reporter: investigators believe the ring has been

quote, verbally defiant and confrontational. the officers involved say his body language showed he was preparing to fight. officers were responding to a domestic violence call for another man at the time. this morning they're on administrative leave. the police chief is expected to give an update on the investigation later this afternoon. oakland mayor libby schaaf says she's disgusted after seeing a truck dumping a load of concrete slabs in this neighborhood. this happened yesterday on east 17th street near 23rd avenue. in case you think, well, was it just an accident, the entire security video shows the driver slowly lifting the bed up at an angle before speeding off. mayor schaaf posted this on twitter hoping to catch the person responsible. a crew showed up a short time later to clean up the mess. petaluma high school is defending its decision to cut off her valedictorian's

morning. chp said a black dodge was heading northbound on 680 just before calaveras road. it rear-ended a toyota. the toyota hit a gray ford. three people were take even to a local trauma center. an 8-year-old in the white toyota died at the hospital. krp says drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this crash. no word yet on the the driver of the dodge will face any charges. live in sunol, matt keller, abc 7 news. in the south bay investigators trying to determine the cause of a house fire in san jose that left three people without a place to live. officials say the flames started in the garage of the home on westbury drive around 6:30 and quickly spread to the home. three cars were destroyed in the garage. two other cars in the driveway also damaged. firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to two nearby homes. a major new development in the deadly crash involving a tesla on auto pilot in mountain view.

>> the ntsb's new report questions the safety of the auto pilot feature and reveals the car kpully accelerated in the final moments before the crash. in march 28-year-old walter huang was on his way to work at apple when his tesla slammed into a safety barrier. the ntsb report released yesterday said he had been using his auto pilot for 18:55 before the crash, set auto pilot to 75 miles per hour and was following a slower car. the model x stopped following the lead car. three seconds before the crash it excelled from 62 to 70.8 miles per hour into the collapsed safety barrier. the vehicle did not detect hands on the steering wheel in the final six seconds. the ntsb report confirmed the battery burst into flames. the i-team's dan noyes has reports about the crash on abc7news.com. click on sections and then i-team.

a santa rosa woman is recovering from a hip injury after a bison gored her at yellow stone national park. 59d-year-old kim hancock was within a crowd of people who got within ten yards. the bison got agitated, charged at the crowd and hit hancock. she was treated and released from the hospital. rangers warn you you should stay at least 25 yards away. developing news involving a deadly shooting near san francisco general that forced its emergency room into lockdown. >> it took place a miles from the hospital at a housing complex on treat way. three men in their 20s were shot. sfpd says they found one man at the scene who later died. the medical examiner says his name is jaime poole. >> we're investigating to see where they were injured. we're questioning people looking for surveillance footage, trying to find anything we can to help us.

>> the burr nell dwelling apartments and surrounding blocks have been the scene of many shootings over the years. police are hoping surveillance cameras will help them track down whoever is responsible for this most recent shooting. a woman was killed after a shooting in san francisco's excelsior district. it happened at 11:00 a.m. yesterday on mission street near santa rosa avenue. the woman was rushed to the hospital where she died three hours later. no arrests have been made. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. i want to show you some of the coolest temperatures this morning and again some of the warmest temperatures this afternoon in santa rosa where you're 48 now. flip those around, your high for today of 84. 48 in petaluma and mill we've got temperatures pretty much low to mid 50s from el sobrante down to san jose. san ramon 49. brentwood at 58 degrees.

a hazy san mateo bridge as we look towards the peninsula where we could have a touch of drizzle tomorrow morning. but not this morning. it's dry. the breezes are going to kick in around 11:00, so especially on the north-south bridges, watch out for that. breezes will be fast everywhere if you're on the bay today. cool to mild, that's our temperature swing if you're taki mass transit. south bay, 57 at 8:00, 66 at 10:00. east bay valleys, the low 80s, pretty comfortable even during the day. look at this as we head towards the evening. our next stop will be in the peninsula where we have 57 and sunshine at 8:00, a sunny 68 at noon. comfortable temperatures in the low 70s this afternoon. at the coast, however, a lot of cloud cover and temperatures in the upper 50s to the low 60s. so it's friday. it's in the middle of summer. hopefully that means friday light. >> yeah. a lot of kids getting out of school for the summer.

hopefully that's all going to translate to a smoother commute. so far we don't have any major problems. thumbs up for that. we have heavy traffic getting out of the tracy area. no surprise. we have reports of a collision westbound 580 past the 205 merge. i believe that's already off on the shoulder. as we know, it doesn't take much. you're pretty heavy getting out of the central valley. i know it's friday, unfortunately you're not catching too much of a break there. and the bay bridge metering lights were flipped on about 5:28 this morning. car pool lanes are looking just fine if you're going to be paying with cash or fastrak this morning you'll have to wait. not too bad of a backup into the maze. >> we have an issue with mass transit this morning, capitol corridor, no service to or from davis station. we'll talk more about that coming up next. apparently uber wants to identify drunk passengers.

the sale of flavored tobacco products. nearly 69% voted yes on that local measure. tobacco company rj reynolds contributed nearly $12 million to fight the measure. proponents say vaping products are an epidemic among teens. beach bums may want to avoid some beach bummers this summer. the ten most polluted beaches in california, five local beaches made the list. lakeshore park in san mateo is the second most polluted beach in the state. that's followed by linda mar beach in pacifica. two beaches at half moon bay made the list, roosevelt at number five, surfers beach at number ten, cowell beach came in at eighth. it's based on the levels of harmful bacteria. >> it would be noise to go to the beach and help clean up those areas.

you can see it making a push towards the east. mid to upper 70s in the south bay. low to mid 80s around morgan hill and gilroy. low to mid 70s most of the peninsula. millbrae, 68, the cooler spot. you can see the clouds along the coast with low 60s there. heading up to the north bay, maybe a little wine tasting, upper 70s to 80s. east tonight, it will lock in some of the warmer temperatures for today. tomorrow morning we'll wake up mainly in the mid to upper 50s. let's see the roller coaster as we drop back to below average. sunday is going to be a lot like today. maybe more cloud cover in the morning, but the afternoon hours with sunshine and highs the same. you can see the warming trend, the heat wave for the bay and inland starting monday and lasting through at least wednesday.

by their owners shortly after they were rescued from a stolen van. tony carter of seattle and his assistant were driving the van to the dog show on wednesday. it got stolen with the dogs inside. they were in an in-and-out parking lot and they left the van running and unlocked to keep the ac going. the van was found yesterday morning abandoned in the woods with the dogs still inside. cheers went out when the announcement went out at woof stock. >> according to the redding police department, the dogs and the van are all safe.
