the news shocking the entire world. there's reaction pouring in from all corners of the world as well as his colleagues at cnn. we'll hear from them in just a moment. >> such a big impact this morning. more on that in just a couple moments. good morning on this friday, june 8th. it's 6:00 a.m. we'll start with mike nicco's accuweather forecast. >> a look at the winds, gusty around half moon bay, sfo and fairfield. not nearly as bad as they were the last couple mornings. that's why the cloud deck is a lot more broken. it's going to increase across the coast and have an effect on your temperatures. while the rest of us will tap into the extra sunshine. my accuweather 12-hour planner, staying in the 50s at the coast. 74 inland for noon, nice afternoon -- nice lunch hour there. 74 to 78 at 4:00 and a very comfortable evening, 68 to 70. coming up, here is alexis.

>> looking at the bay bridge toll plaza right now. so it is one of our busier spots this morning. those metering lights on a few minutes later than the monday through thursday commute. 5:28 today. no major issues, our typical delays into the maze if you're using the car pool lanes, you don't have any issues there. i want to check in on mass transit. this is our only issue, but capitol corridor, no service to or from davis station. this is due to a freight train derailment. you'll have to use alternate transportation this morning. they're working on getting a bus bridge set up. that has not happened yet. we also have a motorcycle crash in the south bay. we'll check on that next. an update on the breaking news we're following this morning, the death of cnn host anthony bourdain. cnn confirmed bourdain's death this morning and said the cause of death was suicide. bourdain was in france working on an upcoming episode of his food and travel series. he was found inside his hotel room. here is part of cnn's coverage

takeaction. you'll see a number of resources in o community including several 24/7 hot lines. new details about a san francisco woman accused of killing her roommate. she apparently did it because that roommate refused to move out. >> "the exam her" reports it's not the first time 47-year-old lows is a gonzalez got into a housing dispute. in 2014 she claimed her landlord illegally converted this apartment building into condos and eventually secured a lifetime lease on her unit. police arrested her after finding her roommate's dismembered body in the building. authorities seized nearly 50,000 pounds of explosive material statewide. yesterday they announced several people including a couple in walnut creek face charges. atf agents arrested jack and tanya schroll. they found fireworks, exclusive devices and even an assault

weapon. neighbors say jack schroll was really into burning man but they were shocked to hear about explosives. >> i would hear a lot of things over there from burning fame. he has a cool jet-powered flame thrower he built several years ago. >> cal fire says this is one of the largest mark leno and london breed separated by 255 votes as we wait to see who will be the next mayor of san francisco. there's still around 80,000 ballots left to be counted. leno surged ahead of breed late on tuesday night thanks to ranked-choice voting. he picked up thousands of second place votes from jane kim supporters. leno and kim encouraged voters to select the other as their

welcome back. the u.s. embassy in china issued a new health alert overnight bcause of a mystery health issue, the second alert in two weeks at the consulate. several american workers have had unexplained physical symptoms including dizziness, cognitive issues and visual problems. actually these issues in china are very similar to some incidents that we saw at the u.s. consulate in cuba in 2016. now, the u.s. government says the cuba incidents were an attack, but they haven't quite yet revealed specifics on what happened. we're waiting to see if this is

similar in china to what happened in cuba. we'll have much more as it comes in. petaluma high school defending its decision to cut off their valedictorian's microphone when she went off script to talk about sexual assault. >> even people on campus, sthoes same people. >> the student did not get to finish her speech on saturday. she said the contents of it had been part of a difficult negotiation with the school. she said it's a matter of free speech. >> students aren't listened to, that people are mistreated when they're victims of sexual assault on campus and the arts and music need more funding. >> according to the press democrat, the high school says it has the right to take into account the speaker and the people he or she may be speaking about. the school says since it's

providing the forum, it has the ability to approve the message. 12 companies applied for san francisco's e scooter pilot program. that includes ride hailing as the original scooter as well manufacturer that we probably remember from a lot of our youths. razor, spin, lime and bird applied after the city forced them to take their existing scooters off the streets. san francisco will issue permits to five of those 12 companies. the deadline to apply already passed. >> it's been nice not seeing the scooters cluttering the sidewalks. >> it's helpful, but for a lot of people it's not helpful because they get in the w and cae oer problems. >> we'll have to fure this out. >> i think we're learning,

you're respectful, there are issues like that. if no, things bog down. so just be nice. here is a look at sfo where you can see it's clear and there is no cloud cover. it's definitely lining up along the coast. you can see as we look through the san bruno gap, it's starting to make things cloudy. we'll see if there are any delays on this friday. for now, the sunshine we're having this morning gets us back to average after being cooler than average the last two days. tomorrow, we'll have clouds and that will lock us into our coolest day moving forward. we have the heat wave developing next week. here we are, a small area of high pressure dominating us. a big bowl of cooler air coming in tomorrow. there's a slight chance of that cold front, showers in lake and mendocino county tomorrow. for the rest of us, cooler than what we're seeing today which is seasonally cool temperatures in san francisco. low to mid 60s. the east bay, absolutely gorgeous. low to mid 70s with sunshine. not bad on the peninsula, low to

you can see the northbound side of traffic very heavy, highway 17 north of here before lawrence expressway. we have a crash involving a motorcycle blocking the two left lanes, very stroe out of the central valley, tracy to castro valley. a new crash at grant line road. we'll check on that next. >> new developments of the controversial sfa tu at the civic center. it shows a native american man at the feet of a cowboy and a missionary. the city overturned the decision to move the statue into storage. the new development this morning, the arts commission and the city's historic preservation commission will request a rehearing from the appeals board. ago. we have residual delays beyond the highway 17 merge there. it should take a little while for that to thin out. but everything is back open. not so good news here westbound 580 before grant line road. we have a two-car crash blocking the left lane. we'll take a look at that drive time next. more now on that breaking news. the death of cnn's anthony bourdain. >> this announcement coming down shortly before we came on air at 4:30 this morning. jessica, you've been tracking this at the live desk. >> so many people saddened by this death. cnn confirming bourdain's death this morning. they say he died by suicide. bourdain was in france working on an upcoming episode of his award winning food and travel series. his close friend found bourdain unresponsive inside his hotel room this morning. here is part of cnn's announcement a few minutes ago. >> he was found dead in his hotel room this morning in strassburg, france, working on an upcoming episode of "parts

unknown." he was with his production crew. that's how we learned about his death. this was a death by hanging. we can report he did take his own life. >> cnn issued a statement saying in part, quote, his talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time. bourdain won nearly every award in the industry. the smithsonian calling him, quote, the original rock star of the culinary world. he had accolades from television as well. as you know, that doesn't necessarily change some of the feelings and issues he was struggling with. of course, we have this shocking news this morning. he leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter. no doubt that will be very difficult for his family and friends. >> it's so hard when everything looks so good from the outside. such a successful show, all these accolades, a beautiful daughter. he was in a new relationship. it's hard to imagine what was going on behind closed doors. >> a lot of people though he had it all, traveling the world

and seeing so many parts of the world that a lot of us saw through his television show. >> mental health issues can affect any of us. >> absolutely. >> there's been caution around public discussion around suicide. it's moving out of the shadows with the death of kate spade and now anthony bourdain. >> psychologist jennifer hartstein is talking about it on "good morning america." >> historically we've looked at this with young kids, teens. if there's a suicide in the school, how that affects other teenagers. we've missed the boat how it affects adults. are we glam rising the idea that their lives were so challenging, this is the only way out. i'm so glad we or able to talk about it and open the conversation so people don't feel the shame about it and can ask for help. >> as part of abc's take action campaign, we have a list of local resources including how you can get help with mental health issues.

go to abc7news.com/takeaction. please reach out if you need help. we'll turn to another story which is awful. a crash in sunol that has taken the life of an 8-year-old boy. >> it's happened on highway 84 near i-680. chp says the driver who caused the crash fell asleep. abc 7 reporter matt keller live in sunol. >> reporter: good morning. 680 is open right now. it's closed for about 90 minutes earlier this morning as the chp did their investigation and cleaned up the area. in the end, a tragic morning here. it happened around 12:20 this morning. chp said a black dodge was heading northbound on 680 before calaveras road when the driver fell asleep at the wheel and hit the back of a toyota. three people were taken to a local trauma center. an 8-year-old who was in the white toyota died at the hospital. krp says drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this

crash. no word yet on whether or not the driver is going to face charges. live in sunol, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> okay, mat. thank you. a major development in a deadly crash on auto pilot in mountain view. >> the ntsb questions the safety of the auto pilot fee fewer and reveals the car accelerated in the final moments before the crash. 38-year-old walter huang was on his way to work at apple when his tesla slammed into a safety barrier previously damaged by another crash on highway 101. the report released yesterday said huang had been using his auto pilot for 18:55 before the crash, he set it to 75 miles per hour and was following a slower car. the model x stopped following the lead car, then three seconds before the crash it accelerated from 62 to 70.8 miles per hour into the collapsed safety barrier. the vehicle did not detect hands on the steering wheel in the final six seconds. the ntsb report also confirmed

that the model x's battery burst into flames. bystanders removed huang from the wreckage. he later died at the hospital. >> the i-team's dan noyes has exclusive reports about the tesla crash on abc7news.com. click on sections. three were shot. sfpd says they found one man on the scene who later died. the medical examiner says his name is jaime poole. >> we're investigating to see where they were injured. we're questioning people looking for surveillance footage, trying to find anything we can to help us. >> the burr nell dwelling apartments and the surrounding blocks have been the scene of many shootings over the years. people hope surveillance cameras

down to 63. maybe need a jacket if you're going to be out after the 8:00 hour. same thing in san francisco, we drop down to 58. temperatures in the low 60s but not as much sunshine at the coast as the bay side. so those temperatures could be a little cooler. enjoying nice weather as we get back to average. 90s in the forecast next week. i'll knock that out for you later. let's map out our commutes this morning. how are we doing? >> a couple of tough spots to get around. back to the location of a motorcycle crash that has cleared northbound 280, heavy traffic at highway 17. the good news is 10, 15 minutes ago all lanes did reopen. the crash was north of here right around saratoga just before lawrence expressway. you're slow for about three miles. i think that will start to thin out over the next 20 minutes or so. not thinning out, the central valley drive. unfortunately gridlocked,

westbound 580 before grant line, a hit-and-run crash reported. a vehicle sitting in the fast lane, the far left lane. that's really slowing you down out of the tracy area. check out this drive time, westbound 580 tracy to dublin on a friday, it might typically be about 45 minutes to an hour. 1 thundershower andhour and 43 . northbound 85, 101 to cupertino looking good at 17 minutes. next traffic update coming up in just about ten. i do want to show you live images coming in. any moment now the president will make his way to canada for the g7 summit, but the president already making headlines this morning before he arrives. he said as he was leaving the white house, that russia should be let back into the g7. >> you know, whether you like it or not, and it may not be politically correct, but we have a world to run, and in the g7 which used to be the g8, they

>> okay. >> going to turn to a ban on plastic straws that could go statewide if some california lawmakers have their way. the goal is to protect beaches and marine life. if this is passed, the law would only apply to dine-in restaurants, it would ban restaurants from providing straws with drinks unless the customer asks for it. the state senate is debating a bill. there's a possibility it could extend to fast food restaurants, coffee shops and convenient stores. we're all familiar with the swine flu and avian flu affecting humans. researchers are warning the next flu pandemic could come from dogs. a study from china is saying the flu virus can jump from pigs to dogs, where it can mutate and make it easier to transmit if it jumps to humans. in 2009 avian flus jumped from birds to pigs and caused problems when it eventually jumped to humans.

the ferry building. they relaxed overnight. that's why any cloud cover right now is just getting to the coast as we speak. it's going to be sunny and warmer for our bay and inland neighborhoods. cloudy, coastal drizzle. signs of summer for some next week. here is a look at the cloud cover. you can see it moving in along the coast, especially the peninsula coast. it's goingo be more of a mainay than it is any where else. notice as we head fro 4:00 to 7:00, it starts to take over the entire coast and starts moving to the east. that's why we'll wake up tomorrow morning cloudy and milder this morning with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. for today, how about mid to upper 70s around san jose and the south bay. even low to mid 80s in morgan hill and gilroy. santa cruz with 75 and sunshine. low to mid 70s most of the peninsula. you can see the cloud cover keeping us right around 60 degrees at the coast today. more sunshine downtown, south san francisco and sausalito, mid to upper 60s there. upper 70s to mid 80s. a great afternoon for wine

they got rescued from a stolen van. tony carter of seattle and an assistant were driving this van to the dog show on wednesday. it got stolen with the dogs still inside when they stopped in an in-n-out parking lot. they left the van running and unlocked to keep the av going for the dogs. the van was found yesterday a b ban donned in the woods, the dog still inside. when they made the announcement at woof stock, there were cheers. >> according to the redding police department the dogs and the van are all safe.
