now from abc 7, live breaking news. a a man exits the building, hands up, intense situation unfolding now involving oakland police, swat teams, and snipers. this is happening in seminary and foothill where there's a huge police presence. thank you forjoini ifor joining. this is at foothill boulevard and seminary avenue. we are live at the scene with cornell. >> reporter: kristen, appears the two, three people have been taken into custody. we are here at seminary and foothill. as you can see, there is a massive police presence here, just moments ago, in fact, flash bangs were going off. we counted at least three. swat teams on scene, as well as

officers, at least aocg dntn59o boulevard there, white with the rod iron door, a type of business. oakland police say it started here at 4:00 a.m. when gunshots were reported coming from that building. moments ago, a man was led away by officers. he was in handcuffs. we don't know why he was being detained, but sky7 was over the scene as the very same man was seen with hands up in the air. here on foothill boulevard. he later was on his hands and knees, and then led away by officers. now, oakland police telling us moments ago that no injuries have been reported here. still a very fluid situation. we believe that we have counted three people taken into custody

by opd here in just the last ten minutes. that's the latest here at foothill in oakland, abc 7 news. >> thank you. we'll have more on the story on abc7 news at 4:00 later today. the culinary world stunned and devastated this morning to learn of the death of celebrity chef, host, and travel author anthony bourdain found dead in his hotel room in france. reporters say he died from suicide. >> reporter: perhaps the most famous chef in the world, a brilliant story teller. >> i don't want it to be like all the other happy [ bleep ] food shows. >> reporter: he was not like anyone else on television. he was the coolest. sharing vietnamese noodles with president obama in hanoi. >> appropriate to put this all in your mouth? >> reporter: no matter the

training, he was the best reporters. the memoir about the "kitchen confidential" took his name on the map, and took his act on the road with "no reservations" and was on cnn to host "parts unknown." friday morning, the network announced he committed suicide in his hotel room in france where he was shooting an episode for next season. he was just in hong kong with his girlfriend who directed the episode, tweeting this video, grooves with the crew four days ago. this is the same week fashion designer kate spade took her life in new york. she was battling mental illness for years. >> i always say we should think of this no differently than heart disease or cancer, but mental illness does not discriminate. >> her ex-husband took his own life. we have numbers from the cdc this week. suicide in the u.s. is on the rise with a 25% increase in the

last two decades, and last year alone, nearly 45,000 people took their own lives. molly hunter, abc news, london. >> well, anthony bourdain visited the area several times. he was in sinbad's three years ago filming for "parts unknown," and he also visited these restaurants in the bay area. swan oyster depot and 4505 burgers and barbecue in san francisco, and trader vick's, and miss ollie's in oakland. suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the u.s., though it's not discussed openly. in the wake of the second suicide by well-known figure this week, there's a new spotlight on the issue, and how to spot those who may be at risk. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live in san jose with more, matt? >> reporter: kristen, i talked cot santa clara county

department, and they are seeing a rise in their suicide hotline after the two celebrity deaths this week. kate spade tuesday, anthony bourdain today. it affects everybody across the board. when it famous person is involved, it's a statrtling impact. after robin williams suicide, suicide went up 10%. >> research shows this causes -- it's a trigger for copycat suicides, and that may have been the case here. >> reporter: the spokesperson for the health systems is pushing for the media to be careful with what they say. guidelines include not reporting the details of the death and watching words. >> to use words "die by suicide" because commit is like committing a crime, a scene, and that's the stigma for mental health, and always to provide resources where people can go

this morning on 680. the girl was in the back of the white toyota when a black dodge crashed into it pushing the vehicle into the car in front it. the driver and passenger were also hurt. passengers of the other vehicles were not injured. investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors. new at 11:00, san francisco police search for a gunman who shot a man on polk street at 4:30 this morning. officers responded to the area after reports of a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. he was taken to the hospital. no other details released. now to a race where your voice and vote truly matters. leno and breed are separated by 255 votes now as we await who will be the next mayor of san francisco. the next update for us is expected at 4:00 p.m. this afternoon. the update yesterday shows leno with 50.9% of the vote. breed with 49.9%.

seminary avenue. we are back live on the scene with cornell. >> reporter: kristen, this massive police presence continues here at foothill and seminary. take a look. this appears to be a possible standoff situation now. moments ago, we did hear flash bangs going off, counting three of them. swat teams on scene. officers on scene. they appear to be focusing attention on 5919 foothill boulevard which appears to be a business. oakland police say this all began at 4:00 a.m. when gunshots were reported coming from that building. now, just in the last 30 minutes, there's been three people taken into custody. moments ago, a man was led away in cuffs by the oakland police. we do not know why he was being detained. now, sky7 was over the scene as the same man was seen with his hands up in the air, it appeared that he was surrendering to the police of the he eventually gets on to his hands and knees. it's important to say that oakland police at this time report no injuries at the scene.
