making news in america this morning, president trump's historic face-to-face meeting with kim jong-un now just hours away. the final preparations and the new details emerging on what the u.s. will demand from north korea. plus, the plane that delivered kim jong-un's personal food and what else the dictator has brought with him to the summit. also breaking overnight, president trump's new statement on a looming trade war with canada and europe after the white house says there's a special place in hell for canada's prime minister. so how is canada responding? at this hour flooding rains along parts of the east coast. this highway near philadelphia flooded overnight. water rescues under way. the areas getting hit hardest. those stories, plus a young actor on the hit sitcom "the goldbergs" and "modern family" dies suddenly at age 20.

good morning, diane and kendis. so president trump seems very optimistic about striking a deal with kim jong-un. at the same time, though, he's downplaying what that deal might mean. president trump landing in singapore confident about his chances of success at that high-stakes summit with north korean leader kim jong-un. less than 24 hours away from that historic sit-down at a meeting with the prime minister of singapore tweeting, great to be in singapore, excitement in the air. kim jong-un touching down hours earlier staying at the heavily guarded st. regis hotel arriving with his sister kim yo-jong in a black limousine with north korean flags on the hood. his bodyguards ran alongside the car. kim told singaporian prime minister lee at his office, quote, the whole world is watching. the north korean state media said trump and kim would discuss, quote, a permanent and durable peacekeeping mechanism. secretary of state mike pompeo

saying overnight that the president is, quote, well prepared for the meeting. president trump warning it's now or never. >> it's a one-time shot and i think it's going to work out very well. >> reporter: going with his gut he says he'll know right away if the north korean leader is serious about denuclearization. >> within the first minute. >> reporter: and a rare move not overselling the outcome. >> the minimum would be relationship. you'd start at least a dialogue. >> reporter: meanwhile, there are new reports that kim jong-un brought his own portable toilet with him to the summit. now this isn't the first time he did this. last month when he met with the south korean leader moon, he also brought his own toilet. reporting from singapore, i'm tara palmeri, abc news. back to you, diane and kendis. >> wow, dictators, they're just like us. tara palmeri in singapore for us. thanks, tara. >> they're planning for everything. you never know. all right, our thanks. and the summit, of course, with

north korea comes on the heels of a tense g7 economic summit in quebec, canada, where president trump clashed with the prime minister there and other u.s. allies. he faced off with the other top industrial nations over what he sees as unfair trade practices. but it's this photo that many were talking about. a white house adviser claiming the canadian leader is a back stabber, and this morning the president is back on twitter lashing out yet again. abc's arlette saenz is following the developments from d.c. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, kendis and diane. well, president trump is in singapore ready to make nice with one of america's fiercest enemies, but when it comes to one of the country's closest allies, the president is engaged in an epic clash. president trump and his top aides are on the attack against canadian prime minister justin trudeau. >> here's the thing, i mean, he really kind of stabbed us in the back. >> reporter: from singapore, the president tweeted, sorry, we cannot let our friends or enemies take advantage of us on trade anymore. we must put the american worker first. this comes after the president ruffled feathers at the g7

summit, not backing down from stiff tariffs on aluminum and steel imports from canada and other u.s. allies. the president calling it a matter of national security. >> the national security pretext is absurd and, frankly, insulting to canadians, the closest and strongest ally the united states has had. >> reporter: trudeau promised to fight back by slapping tariffs on american goods. >> we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around. >> reporter: that move infuriated the president who lashed out in an angry tweet calling trudeau very dishonest and weak. and then a stunning decision, the president refused to sign a traditional statement of solidarity with the g7 partners. the white house moved into full attack mode. >> there's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad faith diplomacy with president donald j. trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the

door. >> reporter: the clash over tariffs could lead to higher prices on goods like cars and even cans of beer. the beer institute says the fae and kendis, those beers you had over the weekend, their prices might be going up. >> ah, man. >> interesting. you're still upset about the beer. >> arlette saenz, thank you. and the trump administration's zero tolerance policy at the border is under scrutiny as a sheriff in texas reports a migrant from honduras took his own life in jail after being separated from his wife and son. new government figures showed nearly 1800 families were separated at the u.s./mexico border over a 17-month period before the trump administration's crackdown separations got on the rise. more than 2200 homes have now been evacuated because of a fast-moving wildfire outside of durango, colorado. the dry conditions fueling the fire which nearly doubled in size in recent days. it now covers more than 25

square miles and was only 10% contained overnight but so far no buildings have been damaged and in the meanwhile we learned that a firefighter has died battling a wildfire in west texas after suffering a medical emergency. time now for a look at your weather for this monday morning. major flash flooding is reported this morning in the philadelphia area after more than 5 inches of rain overnight and the flooding shut down a portion of the pennsylvania turnpike and some water rescues have even been reported. later today more heavy rain and severe weather is expected for the mid-atlantic. stm stretchg as far sts indiana. severe storms are also possible later today from minnesota all the way down to kansas. well, coming up, remembering an actor from the hit tv sitcom "the goldbergs" after his death.

we're back with what's left of a home in east cleveland, ohio, after a powerful explosion. one woman was killed and a man suffered serious burns. now, four houses caught fire and were damaged by the flying debris. neighbors say they smelled gas in the area right after the explosion. and an air force officer who vanished 35 years ago has been found in california and arrested. captain williams hughes jr. is charged with desertion. he told officials he adopted a new identity in 1983.

when he disappeared there was speculation that hughes defected to the soviet union. he did have a top security clearance, but authorities say there's no indication he gave any classified information to another country. and we have some new details on a deadly alligator attack in south florida. two days before the 47-year-old victim was attacked while walking her dog in a park on friday, her homeowners association warned residents to be on guard for alligators. the alert was issued after a six-foot gator was trapped near a door. the woman's remains were recovered on friday night. to the west coast, the los angeles coroner is investigating the death of sitcom actor jackson odell. officials say the 20-year-old was found unresponsive in his home in california. he starred on abc's comedy "the goldbergs" until 2015 and he also appeared on "icarly," "modern family" and "arrested development." odell started acting at age 12. his family released a statement saying he will always be a shining light and a loving and talented soul. the cause of death right now

being investigated by the coroner's office. police in southern california say the actor vince vaughn has been charged with delaying an investigation during his dui arrest. they say he was stopped at a dui checkpoint over the weekend near manhattan beach and failed a sobriety test. and get this, a passenger in vaughn's car was also arrested for obstruction and public intoxication. "ocean's 8" has grabbed the top spot at the box office with a record performance. the female-led reboot of the series starring sandra bullock and cate blanchett took in $41.5 million. that's the best opening weekend ever for the franchise. women made up nearly 70% of ticket buyers. >> interesting. all right. coming up, the new controversy brewing after justify's triple crown victory. but first see how survivors of the school shooting in parkland, florida, stole the show at the tony awards as their drama teacher was honored. there was also an emotional tribute to anthony bourdain and the surprising revelation about his dinner with president obama. dinner with president obama.

looked at him as somebody who actually gave me hope for what one's life could become, you know, could be at 61. >> funeral plans for bourdain have been placed on hold as the french government awaits toxicology results before releasing his body. a new study sounding the alarm about the amount of sugar that young children are eating these days. researchers found many toddlers are eating more sugar than the recommended level for adults. they found kids between the ages of 19 to 23 months consume an average of seven teaspoons of added sugar per day. that's more sugar than a snickers or a kit kat has. over to sports now where collusion questions are being raised after justify's triple crown win. one owner says he thinks justify's stable mate restoring hope seen here with that jockey in pink was used to block the rest of the field from getting in justify's way during saturday's belmont stakes. but racing officials say they will not investigate the claim. meanwhile, espn reports justify's breeding rights will be worth a record $75 million

look at the barricades. they are out here. we're on 20th street and broadway where they got these barricades out. we know b.a.r.t. has a scheduled meeting today, so they're going to start planning for all these people, expecting a million people. so the city of oakland is getting ready. here is the big change. you know that rally that they have had in years past at lake merritt where the players speak and all the fans gather to listen to them, they're not doing that this year. the warriors and the city said they wanted to create a more intimate, free flowing experience. they want an interactive parade. they want the parade to be an interactive event. so they won't have the rally. >> in stetd of an end of the parade rally, more interactive stations along the parade route. hopefully more people will enjoy the interaction with their favorite players and get to enjoy that warriors spirit.
