now from abc 7, live breaking news. >> a man in custody after kidnapping a woman in her 70s this morning. it was a landlord tenant dispute that escalated to a chase across town and finally to a heroic resc rescue. thank you for joining us. i'm kristen sze. it ended at sooner street and lorenzo avenue where a suspect rammed into a police car. matt keller is live at the scene, matt, police say they got there just in time? >> reporter: yes, kristen, and we're where the chase ended here in oakland. this is the suspect's car being

towed. they are waiting for a search warrant for weapons or evidence in the car. this started at u7:45 this morning. the suspect went to the home and assaulted a family member, the suspect kidnapped the woman, and took off in his car. the officers saw the vehicle take off. they saw the suspect ram into a patrol vehicle, and eventually, the chase ended on lorenzo avenue and sooner street. they said if they arrive any later, it's possible there was another ending. >> the suspect repeatedly threatened to kill her. we're extremely happy our officers were able to have such a quick response, locate the car, the victim, and the victim is okay. she's not injured. >> reporter: now, the suspect, man in his 30s, was arrested and could face kidnapping and assault charges. no officers were injured in the

pursuit. live in oakland, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thank you. breaking news no danville. one person dead after a freak accident on interstate 680 this morning triggered by a tree falling across the freeway here the elk road onramp. you are live at the scene, laura? >> reporter: kristen, i'm standing on interstate 680 northbound, north of the exit, the crews moved in here in force. they are cutting up this pine tree. this is the tree that fell across the highway before 9:00 this morning. let's show you what it looked like a bit earlier from sky7. the car that was involved is actually about a quarter of a mile down from where i'm standing. it was a silver mercedes sedan. i've just learned from the chp that the woman inside that car was killed. at this time, they don't know whether she was trying to avoid

the tree or whether the tree hit her. there's some indication that she swerved to the left maybe hit the center divider and the car rolled quite a distance, but there is one woman who has been let's show you the tree again. it is a pine tree from the ground. we can show you it was clearly dead, and about 20 yards up the hillside from the freeway, from the onramp where people would be coming on to the freeway. there's a couple of trees up there that appear to be dead, and this was the largest of the group, and it fell just before 9:00 this morning. we're told by the chp they have someone on the way out here to talk with us. we are back live here. you can see the cal tran crews have chain saws. the traffic situation as you can imagine out here, kristen, is terrible. there were cars backed up northbound, i'm told, all the way back to crow canyon in san ramon. they are trying to remove the
