. one week after the election and new numbers show london breed widening her gap. 261 more votes than yesterday. and the big news here, they counted 10,000 more votes today meaning counting could be finished by tomorrow. this has been a very close race ever since election night and confusing certainly to some voters given the city's controversial rank choice voting system. carolyn tyler is in the news room. >> reporter: oakland, berkeley, and san leandro has that system too. everywhere are opponents and

supporters. rank choice voting is also known as instant. >> for us, this is our normal routine after an election. >> reporter: san francisco voters approved the election in 2002. it allows like minded candidates to team up. that is what happened with mark leno and jane kim going against london breed. and that is what happened in 2010. the perceived front runner was beaten after rival forces against them. rank choice voting is confusing and allows insiders to game the system. >> the public is better served by having your top candidates go head to head against each other
