tara, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, diane and victor. here in asia the north korean media celebrated the moment while the south koreans were concerned about president trump's promise to stop military drills. back in washington, lawmakers are skeptical that this is a real deal. back from singapore president trump confident about his gamble on kim jong-un. tweeting, the world has taken a big step back from potential nuclear catastrophe. no more rocket launch, nuclear testing or research. this after a five-hour meeting where the north korean leader agreed to give up his nuclear weapons in exchange for security from the u.s. in north korea state media celebrated kim's moment on the world stage. but the actual agreement, lacking specifics like timing and even verification. the president said the details will be worked out. going a step further, president trump saying the u.s. will no longer be conducting military drills over the korean peninsula. >> under the circumstances that we are negotiating, a very comprehensive, complete deal, i

think it's inappropriate to be having war games. >> reporter: south korea surprised by the concession. their defense minister saying there is a need to, quote, discern the exact meaning and intent of president trump's comments. at home many in his own party skeptical. >> i read the statement, and it's difficult for me to see if something was actually agreed to or not. >> reporter: senate leader mitch mcconnell calling for the deal to be ratified by congress. >> the president can reach a significant agreement with the north koreans. i hope it takes the form of a treaty. >> reporter: the north koreans promised to denuclearize during the clinton and bush administrations, but president trump is betting on his, quote, special bond with kim jong-un. diane, victor. >> tara palmeri for us live in singapore. thanks, tara. and turning now to a suspected case of human smuggling in texas, more than 50 people including children have been found in a tractor trailer in san antonio. authorities believe they came across the mexico border illegally. most appear to be in good health

and have now been taken to an immigration detention center. meanwhile, on capitol hill a new development in the immigration debate. house republicans will vote next week on two proposals to address the plight of the so-called dreamers who came to the u.s. illegally as a bipartisan effort to force a vote on protecting the dreamers failed on tuesday. canadian prime minister justin trudeau is standing firm in his tariff battle with president trump. trudeau told canadian lawmakers it's not in the interest of the u.s. or canada to fight over trade. on capitol hill senator bob corker tried to limit the president's power to impose tariffs, but he says his fellow republicans are afraid of the president. >> no, no, no, gosh, we might poke the bear is the language i've been hearing in the hallways. we might poke the bear, the president might get upset with us as united states senators if we vote on the corker amendment so we're going to do everything we can to block it.

>> corker is not running for re-election, by the way. meanwhile, the president's trade adviser peter navarro says he made a mistake when he said there is a special place in hell for justin trudeau. navarro now calls that statement inappropriate. a federal judge has cleared the way for at&t to merge with time warner. the merger could be finalized in just a matter of days and could mean big changes for consumers affecting the shows you watch and the cell phone bill you pay. abc's janai norman is in washington with the details. good morning, janai. >> reporter: victor, good morning. so this is a huge acquisition for at&t that makes the mobile company extremely powerful and this ruling could set the stage for other big mergers. the $85 billion merger approved. >> on behalf of everyone at at&t and time warner, we are gratified with the court's decision to categorically reject the government's bid to block this historic merger. >> reporter: a federal judge clearing the way for at&t to

acquire time warner, making the mobile carrier more like an amazon or netflix as at&t takes over networks like hbo, cnn, tbs and tnt. for at&t users, that could mean more of that content right on your phone. president trump strongly opposed the deal since it was announced. >> a deal we will not approve in my administration because it's too much concentration of power in the hands of too few. >> reporter: the justice department arguing the merger would lead to fewer choices for consumers and higher prices for television and internet. but the judge ruling the justice department hadn't made its case. >> we're obviously disappointed with the decision. it does not change our view that special remedy is the best way to protect american consumers. >> reporter: lawyers for at&t say the company will be racing to close the deal withinhe next week adding consumers could see a drop in prices. >> as the evidence at the trial showed, this will only serve to

all they had to go on was this sketch until his ex-wife's current husband, a retired police officer, recognized the connection between four of the victims. >> and i immediately knew this was dwight jones. >> reporter: connie jones says she constantly lived in fear. police say dwight jones targeted lawyers and mental health workers involved in connie and dwight's contentious divorce battle. >> we know that we were the primary target for dwight jones, and we are very grateful to be alive today. >> reporter: dwight jones' first alleged victim, dr. steven pitt, a renowned clinical psychologist who provided expert testimony on high-profile cases like the jonbenet ramsey murder, also performed a mental evaluation on the suspect and was called as a witness during the divorce trial. then police say jones shot and killed two paralegals, veleria sharp and laura anderson, who police say the fourth victim, life coach marshall levine, was shot at his scottsdale office. jones' son as part of the

divorce was ordered to see a psychiatrist who works in the same office as levine. >> i knew that one day we would be in a situation where he was trying to kill me, and i felt that i had a personal terrorist. >> reporter: his last two victims, an elderly couple, were allegedly killed hours before dwight jones took his own life after being surrounded by authorities. jones' ex-wife says any reward money will be given to victims' families as well as a nonprofit that helps victims of domestic violence and abuse. danya bacchus, abc news, los angeles. and we have a health alert about hundreds of common prescription drugs that have been linked to depression and suicide. researchers at the university of illinois found more than 200 drugs have depression or suicide listed as possible side effects. those include common drugs for birth control, blood pressure, painkillers, even antacids and they found more than one-third of americans take these medications.

bridge toll plaza. not too bad yet. no metering lights yet. a lot of green on our traffic maps so far this morning with the exception, of course, westbound 205 and 580 out of tracy. speeds not too bad, 34 and 32 miles an hour respectively. >> we're following breaking news in walnut creek, firefighters battling a big house fire overnight. there were at least three people inside. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live at the scene on mandarin lane. hi, amy. >> reporter: hi, jessica. one of those victims was killed in this fire. look at the home behind me. the man we who died was upstairs on the second floor. the fire was too big. he couldn't get out. we have a look for you at the flames that trapped this man in his home. two other adults did make it

out, a woman and a man. they did suffer from moderate to serious injuries. we're told they suffered a lot of smoke inhalation from some cuts. firefighters say the home is a total loss. >> the fire was very heavy on both the first and second floor. there was a pretty stubborn attic fire as well. we're looking into what the cause of the fire is. >> reporter: they got the call to come here to mandarin lane about 12:45 this morning. firefighters are still here at the scene. they say it's taken them a while to get through the home, to get all of the stuff out. investigators got here about 1:00 in the morning, and they will be here for a while. now really get to start their work as everything has been pulled out so they can try and figure out what happened here, what started this fire. investigators do tell me they believe there were working smoke

detectors here in the home. they've got to do some investigating to figure out why it was so difficult for this man to be able to escape. live in walnut creek, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you, amy. quick action by bay area firefighters credited for keeping several small grass fires from getting out of control. >> in pinole, sky 7 showing you where fire reached a home yesterday afternoon. it started as a grass fire next to interstate 80. wind gusts pushed the flames to a nearby neighborhood. firefighters were able to stop the fire from causing more serious damage. in oakland, drivers near 5al 0 saw smoke. firefighters quickly knocked down those flames. in lafayette a fire that started vegetation around it. the fire burned 2 1/2 acres before that got put out. the shed was a total loss. firefighters said yesterday's warm weather kept them pretty
