believe there were working smoke detectors here in the home. they've got to do some investigating to figure out why it was so difficult for this man to be able to escape. live in walnut creek, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you, amy. quick action by bay area firefighters credited for keeping several small grass fires from getting out of control. >> in pinole, sky 7 showing you where fire reached a home yesterday afternoon. it started as a grass fire next to interstate 80. wind gusts pushed the flames to a nearby neighborhood. firefighters were able to stop the fire from causing more serious damage. in oakland, drivers near 5al 0 saw smoke. firefighters quickly knocked down those flames. in lafayette a fire that started vegetation around it. the fire burned 2 1/2 acres before that got put out. the shed was a total loss. firefighters said yesterday's

warm weather kept them pretty busy. let's get a quick update on weather and traffic starting with meteorologist mike nicco. >> hi everybody. the winds are going to pick up in more areas today. so we don't have a high fire danger, but you can see what it does if one does break out. 18-mile-per-hour wind in fairfield showing up right now. the rest of us less than ten miles. here is what it does to our temperatures, not much initially. temperatures in the mid to upper 50s through 7:00. 62 at the coast. notice the sea breeze kicks in and you drop to 60 at 4:00. 76 to 86 around the bay and our inland neighborhoods. 80 to 94 at 4:00. by 7:00 it's going to be much cooler in many neighborhoods than it was yesterday at 7:00. i'll show you the rest of the cooling trend coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. let's get a check of the morning commute. >> so far we're pretty quiet this morning, looking at 680 in the walnut creek area. for those drivers connecting

with 24, we have one bore closed for cleaning work. should not cause any major delays and thad should have that back open when the commute ramps up. seven minutes across 580 on the richmond-san rafael bridge, westund across dumbarton bridge wide open at nine minutes. we're tracking breaking news in san jose. police investigating a hit-and-run that appears to left a woman hurt. >> abc 7 reporter matt keller is live. >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha. this is where the incident took place at 2:20 this morning. you can see officers are leaving the scene now. witnesses say a woman walking in this crosswalk when she was hit by an suv, thrown about 25 to 30 feet. that suv did not stay and took off according to that witness. police arrived at the scene first. paramedics and firefighters arrived to treat the woman.

she was conscious and was taken away in an ambulance. no word on her condition. san jose police had the northbound lanes of north capitol blocked until moments ago. it's now back open to traffic. san jose police are waiting to give us an update from their public information officer. the man accused of throwing a homeless man's belonging into lake merritt will be charged today. henry sintay is accused of snatching a cell phone from a man recording a conversation. that's where the robbery charge comes from. on friday that same man was caught on camera throwing a homeless man's belongings into the lake as other people protested. that video quickly went viral and earned him the name jogger joe online. sintay being held at $100,000

bail in dublin. president trump back in washington after air force one landed at joint base andrews in maryland only about two hours ago. i want to show you the new video we just got. he's back from his summit in singapore. the president thanking kim jong-un after the north korean leader agreed to give up weapons in exchange for security from the u.s. it lacked specifics like timing and verification. the president says the details will be worked out. senator mitch mcconnell is calling for the deal to be ratified by congress. the trump administration has long blamed oakland mayor libby schaaf for warning the public about an immigration sweep. internal e-mails recently obtained says i.c.e. considers the sweep in february a suck cease. weeks before schaaf's warning, ice officials said they would be surprised if they ended up picking up 200 suspects.

trump administration officials say she was responsible for more than 800 criminals to be arrested. a stretch of highway 1 in big sur should reopen before the summer ends. a landslide buried a section of the highway. caltrans pushed the opening date from summer to september. caltrans now expects repair work to be done by the end of next month. talk about strength in numbers. hundreds of thousands of fans a packing oakland's streets to celebrate the warriors' second straight nba championship. >> come on! >> the splash brothers as well as the rest of the back-to-back nba champs let loose. officials report there were no arrests or vandalism citations during the parade.

we've got good news heading to cabo san lucas, you like to take the cheaper vacations this time of year because it's so hot, and you have the threat of one of these bearing down on you. bud did weaken overnight, 75-mile-per-hour winds. category one right now. it will heads towards cabo, get there tomorrow mid morning with 40 miles per hour, about 12 to 1-foot swells.

visit fort bliss. they're expecting to tour a piece of land being considered for a tent city to hold up to 5,000 children in ke tension. current shelters are full with more than 11,0 children in custody. the housing crisis is spilling into t streets in silicon valley. people living in their cars has become such a problem that the city is taking steps to take them out. thanks to a new program, some of them will have a police to stay. abc 7 news reporter melly woodrow has the story. >> reporter: dozens of rvs and cars line this street in mountain view. >> what we're seeing is a lot of middle class people being moved into their vehicles, and there are a lot of first-time homeless, a lot of people homeless for less than a year. >> reporter: luke mountain view is a non-profit aimed at reducing homelessness. in 2015 he met with santa clara

it started ambitiously scaling a skyscraper in st. paul yesterday morning. he mesmerized social media. he got tired and paused for this nap, stretch out on the ledge in the afternoon. then the raccoon reversed course and made it all the way to the roof late last night. take a look. he was apparently lured by cat food that animal control officers laid out on the skyscraper's roof. >> there's a lot of people with a lot of time on their hands. >> did anyone know a raccoon can do that? >> apparently when they're afraid their instinct is to climb up things. >> i didn't realize it had such a great grip. >> it can climb up trash cans. >> didn't they take him off a building the day before. then he's like forget this, i'm going to climb even hider.

4:00 to 7:00. for the peninsula you'll see about the same thing happen. temperatures in the mid 70s to mid 80s for high. from 4:00 to 7:00 that breeze kicks in. it drops the temperature a lot. look at the temperatures, mid 80s to mid 90s once again. you're not going to find much of a difference in the north bay compared to yesterday and today. mid 80s to low 90s. last chance will be the mid to upper 90s in our eastbound inland neighborhoods. 99 in brentwood today. tonight in the mid 50s and low 60s again. temperatures dropping nearly ten to 20 degrees by the time we get to saturday. >> we have one new issue to talk about on the peninsula. this is in palo alto, northbound 101. two-car crash reported just before university avenue. it sounds like we may have some injuries, too. one lane blocked for now, the far left lane. emergency crews are heading to the scene. not seeing any delays right now. certainly going to keep an eye on that one.

mass transit should be back to normal for b.a.r.t. 31 trains in service. no delays. no delays for san francisco bay ferry. ac transit resuming normal service after the warriors parade yesterday. so far so good this morning. president trump has taken to twitter to criticize robert de niro after the actor slammed the president during sunday night's tony awards. he tweeted, robert de niro, a very low iq individual has received too many shots to the head by real boxers in movies. i watched him last night and truly believe he may be punch drunk. the president concluded with another tweet saying wake up punchy, after boasting about the u.s. company. on sunday he launched an expletive at mr. trump during the tony awards. on monday the actor apologized, not to the president, but to canadians for the, quote, idiotic behavior of my president. a sobering warning about

planes and their vulnerability to hackers. in today's tech bites a hacking danger facing the airline industry. government researchers say a potentially catastrophic cyber attack on a commercial plane is only a matter of time. that follows a homeland security test in which systems of a boeing jet on the ground were hacked. boeing says it's confident in the security of its planes. meanwhile tesla is handing out pink slips. >> the electric carmaker cutting 3600 jobs, 9% of the workforce. it's part of elon musk's plan for tesla to turn a profit this year. instagram users have more opportunities to shop. >> customers can ad link to their stories that will look like shopping bags. when users click on it, they'll be taken to the product without leaving the app, somehow making online shopping easier. >> just what i needed, another reason to shop. >> those are your tech bites. the california academy of

69. breezy and chilly by the end of the game, 59 degrees. thinking about heading up to the high country for this holiday weekend. i touched upon the chance of thunderstorms. let me give you the entire seven-day forecast. we start near 80, breezy today and tomorrow. friday drops to 74. close to average on saturday. look at the channes chances of thunderstorms friday, saturday and sunday. be careful if you're going to be there. off to a quiet start for the wednesday morning drive and not too much of a backup in the cash lanes for the bay bridge toll plaza. just a slight delay on the left-hand side. if you are paying cash, maybe cruise over to the right, no issues with fastrak. it looks like car pool lanes are looking great, too. southbound 680, six minutes walnut creek to highway 13 another eight. westbound 580 dlub slight delays in the yellow at 40 minutes. abc 7 news giving you a sneak peek of the news exhibit
