60s at the coast. that's around 4:00. this morning we're waking up 53 to 60. by noon temperatures almost exactly where they were yesterda, 62 at the coast, 86 inland. those 4:00 temperatures, but notice the difference at 7:00. not going to be quite as hot as it was yesterday at 7:00. it's going to touch all our neighborhoods. pretty comfortable with temperatures in the upper 60s mid 70s around the bay. >> so far we haven't had too many major issues this morning. in fact, no major issues, just a few smaller ones, keeping an eye on the palo alto area, northbound 101 just before university. we have a two-car crash reported, at least one person injured. two left lanes blocked. i'm still not seeing any delays building on the northbound side. hopefully it will clear before the volumes increase. the rest of the south bay quiet. san jose 280 and 17, a few

vehicles heading through that area right now. we'll take a look at the central valley commute coming up next. we continue following breaking news in walnut creek. firefighters battling a deadly house fire overnight. there were at least three people inside. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live at the scene on mandarin lane. >> reporter: an elderly couple and adult son were here at the time. the elderly man was killed. take a look at this fire. firefighters say the home is a total loss. the elderly woman and the adult man were able to get out okay, but the elderly man could not es keep. >> the elderly man was up on the second story. so the report was that by the time firefighters came on scene with such heavy smoke and fire already occurring in the house, it was too late for anyone to actually get up there and assist

him to get out at that point in time. >> firefighters got the call at 12:45 this morning. investigators got here shortly after 1:00. they don't know what started the fire. the other two victims are in the lopt; told they're suffering from moderate to severe injuries, smoke inhalation and lacerations. at this point firefighters have not released their names. live in walnut creek, amy hollyfield abc 7 news. >> thank you, amy. the b.a.r.t. police sint review board is demanding answers after a startling report on use of force. b.a.r.t. police say they used force on incidents involving 340 people. about half of those were african-american, 50 were black women. statistics show only 12% of b.a.r.t. riders are african-american. board members urge police to comment on the racial disparity there. officials refuse saying they don't want to draw conclusions from data without context.

a student's microphone got cut off during her graduation speech. >> last night some voiced their frustration. this is a story that made national news. petaluma high school officials turning off lulabel seitz' microphone after she started talking about sexual assault. here is abc 7 news reporter kate larsen. sorry. we're having technical difficulties. we'll get that back for you. meanwhile london breed is widening her lead in the san francisco's mayor's race. >> breed's lead increased to 1,861 votes over mark leno. that's 200 more votes than yesterday. there's about 8,000 votes left to count. >> we are waiting to hear if the warriors will accept an invite to the u.s. capital. this letter was sent to coach steve kerr yesterday. pillows say and lee says the warriors have made the bay area

see all that yellow. starts at 3:00 this afternoon to 9:00 this evening. it will drop our temperatures to more comfortable levels than we had last night. look at the drop by 8:00, down to 64 degrees. you can thank the sea breeze for that. in the north bay the breeze will be more pronounced. '63 at 8:00. our last spot will be the peninsula, 63 this morning. by noon 76. spike at 81 at 2:00 and the breezes kick in. by 6:00 down to 72 degrees. you may need a light jacket if you're outside. 66 at 8:00. fairly quiet start on the roads today. the san mateo bridge, westbound 92, we're starting to see the volumes increase. overall not bad. no delays as you head across the midspan and into the foster city area. drive times looking okay. starting to ramp out of the

graduation speech mike cut off. she spoke to abc 7 by phone today about a new online petition with thousands of signatures to remove petaluma high's principal. >> i would say if he doesn't change his policies and behaviors like he hasn't been, and if he doesn't take what happened as a wake-up call, then he either needs to be retrained or removed. >> i'm here because i feel like we can do more. >> reporter: collin caldwell is a history teacher at petaluma junior high, he has two daughters, one of which was sexually harassed at school. >> girls are harassed, sometimes they're touched when they don't want to be touched. while we as educators can't control all that stuff, we can control how we respond. >> reporter: after the meeting i asked the school board president and superintendent to respond to the criticism and the calls for the principal here to be removed. both of them declined to comment. reporting in petaluma, kate

larsen, abc 7 news. new overnight, south carolina representative mark sanford has lost the republican nomination for his congressional seat. he lost to an opponent who attacked his criticism of president donald trump. this morning the president taking some credit for this victory. look at this tweet that went out, not a long time ago. saying my political representatives didn't want me to get involved in the mark sanford primary thinking that sanford would easily win. but with a few hours left, i thought that katie was such a good candidate and sanford was so bad, i had to give it a shot. congrats to katie arrington. that's the candidate that trump supported. it's a big upset because sanford is a former governor who has never lost an election in eight races. back to you. >> jessica, thank you. 5:10. we want to hear from you this morning, will you vote to divide california into three states? go to abc7news.com/vote and let us know. you can watch it up date in

realtime at the bottom of your screen. >> we're asking the question because that is something that voters will, believe it or not, be voting on in november. the controversial plan has qualified for the november 6th ballot. it is backed by silicon valley venture capitalist tim draper. he believes smaller states will be more accountable to its citizens. here is what three californias would actually look like. the northern portion would include the bay air area. the coastal section would stretch from monterey to los angeles. that area would just be called california, and the southern part would extend from madeira county to shaig. that would be called southern california even though you can see parts off the record it are more north than northern california. i don't understand. >> interesting. so far the no vote -- suddenly dropping. still 73% of you saying no, not so much. >> i'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more about that over the next few months. let's turn to this. pg&e warning it could shut off

coming up on 5:15. taking a look at san rafael south on 101. this is one of the areas in the north bay that will be from 10

to 11 degrees warmer than average. a lot of upper 80s to low 90s. our east bay valleys are going to see the biggest jump compared to average, about 13 degrees. that's why we have a moderate heat risk again today. >> pg&e is warning customers it may have to shut off power in high fire areas in case of emergency. the utility company says it's taking precautionary measures as drought and extreme heat become the new normal. last week cal fire investigators determined pg&e was involved in causing several of the deadly north bay wildfires. its power lines had made contact with trees sparking the flames. several families have been named in lawsuits against pg&e. in an e-mail statement a company spokesperson writes, we are aware that lawsuits have been filed. we won't speculate on the cause of the fires while the investigation is on going. in today's "gma first look," president trump defending his summit in singapore with north

korean dictator kim jong-un. >> on the long flight home from singapore, the president offered a big thank you to his new negotiating partner. the world has taken a big step back from potential nuclear at fee, he tweeted. no more rocket launches, nuclear testing or research. the hostages are back home with their families. thank you to chairman kim. our day together was historic. overnight north korean state media lauded the deal, saying it has put an end to the extreme hostile relations between north korea and the u.s. one concession that is raising concerns, what the president told george about putting an end to the joint u.s.-south korean military exercises. >> did you talk about pulling u.s. troops out? >> we didn't discuss that, no. but we're not going do play the war games. >> coming up at 7:00 a.m., george stephanopoulos will lead the discussion. >> on to a controversial tax

that could have an impact here in the bay area. seattle city council repealed the so-called head tax less than one month after passing it. this is video of the meeting. the tax would charge companies by the number of employees it has. that means amazon and starbucks, both based in seattle, would have paid a massive amount of money. they strongly criticized the tax that would generate millions and would in part help fight the city's homeless crisis. mountain view and cupertino have discussed the same proposal. investors have high hopes in the electric scooter industry. bird is raising more funding and about to hit a $2 billion valuation. the company raised $150 million and hit a $1 billion valuation just weeks ago. bird scooters are temporarily off the streets in fran while a permit system is worked out. raising a child is expensive. with the high cost of housing in

the bay area, fewer millennials are having children. birth rates dropped the most in counties where home values grew the most, falling 21% between 2010 and 2016. during that time, home values rose 61%. experts say many young people move to coastal cities to start their careers and leave when they choose to raise a family. people have feelings about the museum of ice cream. this time around they're talking about the sprinkle pool. apparently 15,000 people want to drain it. the problem with this pool isn't new. the sprinklers are plastic and people end up tracking them onto the streets of san francisco. the museum added pressured air showers to help shed the sprinkles off visitors. some say it is not enough. as you can see, 15,000 people want the attraction removed until biodegradable alternatives can be used. museum officials say they're in the process of replacing the

coast. that's what's going to break the heat wave, but not until we reach the mid 90s around morgan hill and gilroy. san jose at about 86. peninsula today, quite a spread, 75 in millbrae, redwood city about 86 degrees. not as hot as yesterday but pretty close. low to mid 60s along the coast with our last day of widespread sunshine. low 70s around downtown, south san francisco and sausalito. mid 80s through most of the north bay valleys. you get to santa rosa northward, low 90s there. low to mid 80s for the rest of our east bayshore neighborhoods and mid to upper 90s in our east bay valleys. i'm sure your car they are mom ter will hit 100 to 101. tonight low to mid 50s, maybe a few 60s around cloverdale, concord and also antioch. here is a look at my accuweather seven-day forecast. 90s are gone tomorrow.

we're told it was the adult man's wife and elderly son that were taken to the hospital. they're expected to survive. meanwhile, the house, a total loss. officials say the cause of the fire is under investigation right now as we get more details, we'll update you throughout our newscast. >> thank you, jessica. developing news in the south bay. police investigating a hit-and-run that left a woman hit in san jose. a witness tells abc 7 news the woman was walking in the crosswalk when she got hit by an suv around 2:30 this morning. she was thrown about 25 to 30 feet. the driver of the suv took off. the woman was conscious and was talking when first responders arrived. as you can see, she was taken away by an ambulance. no word yet on her condition. new this morning, a major decision that could be a big boost for the bay area. >> fifa voted to play a future world cup in north america. abc 7 news reporter matt keller

is live at levi's stadium for a very good reason. good morning, matt. >> good morning natasha and reggie. levi's stadium is the biggest stadium in the bay area and it could host one of the biggest sporting events in the world fifa members approved the bid for the 26 world cup. 17 stadiums in contention. it's likely 11 of those will make the cut. but a decision isn't expected until at least 2020. 49ers say they're excited about the prospects of hosting at levi's stadium saying the bay air ba bid received the second highest technical eluation from fifa during the review process. this wouldn't be the first time the bay area hosted world cup games. some were played in the bay area back in 1994. stanford stadium hosted several games including some by the brazil national team which went on to win the world cup that year. fifa expects to make $11 billion in profit in 2026.

live in santa clara. in pinole, sky 7 showing where fire reached a home. it started $as a grass fire but wind gusts plushed the flames to a nearby neighborhood. firefighters were able to stop the fire from causing more damage. >> in oakland, drivers saw smoke billowing next to the highway. a grass fire spread to fences and then threatened buildings. firefighters quickly knocked down the flames. >> in lafayette, a fire that started in a shed spread to the vegetation around it. that fire burned 2 1/2 acres before it was put out. the shed was completely destroyed. firefighters say yesterday's warm weather certainly kept them busy. the man accused of throwing a homeless man's belongings int lake merritt will be arraigned on robbery charges today. 30-year-old henry sintay is accused of snatching the cell

phone out of the hand of a man recording a conversation with him. that incident happened on saturday. that's where this robbery charge comes from. on friday that same man was caught on camera throwing a homeless man's belongings into the lake as other people nearby were protesting. that video quickly went viral, earning him the name jogger joe online. sinta wrnchts sintay is being held on $100,000 bail in dublin. a 35-year-old man is due in court on charges he broke into a woman's home and tried to assault her. into late toe martinez was arrested after deputies found him hiding in a culvert near the woman's house. investigators say the woman defended herself and escaped her own house. they say the suspect chased her and tried to drag her back into the home but she managed to fight him off and ran for help. the trump administration has long blamed oakland mayor libby schaaf for warning the public

about an immigration sweep. internal e-mails obtained by our media partner shows i.c.e. considers the sweep in february a success. weeks before schaaf's warning, they said they would be surprised if they pick up 200 suspects. they ended up taking 232 people into custody. still trump administration officials say schaaf was responsible for more than 800 criminals evading arrest. the white house has called for her to be criminally investigated for obstructing justice. hundreds of thousands of fans packed oakland streets to celebrate the warriors' second straight nba championship. >> come on! come on! [ cheers and applause ] >> the splash brothers as well as the rest of the back-to-back nba champs let loose during the parade. crews started cleaning up right after it ended. the warriors do plan to pay the cost of that celebration. the city of oakland tweeted

the san mateo bridge. hot asphalt again today. it's going to be a gusty afternoon if you're on one of our ferries and mass transit, a summer spread from 60s in san francisco to 90s if you're commuting back to our inland neighborhoods. here is a look at san francisco. 57 this morning. mid 60s at 10:00, and then we'll have mid to upper 60s throughout the afternoon hours. as you get closer to the bay, temperatures will start to reach 70. as far as the east bay valleys, this is some of the hottest temperatures, starting off comfortable, 66 7:00. low to mid 90s through the of a noon hours. between two and 3:00, you cou 30 spike to mid to upper 90s. more comfortable than it was last evening. south bay, 62 this morning, 78 at noon and then low 80s to mid 80s throughout the afternoon hours. look at that. a 69 by 8:00. we're going to see this be the last day of o our heat.

cooler weather coming up. hopefully cooler heads prevailing on the roads many morning. >>we have a couple of hot spots to get to. in the central valley a motorcycle down westbound 580 past the 205 merge in tracy. tough spot to have anything blocking -- the left lane is still blocked. not sure about the condition and the driver. they're sending an ambulance just in case. things very heavy as you leave the tracy hour, down to about 7 miles an hour. we also have a new crash in the southbound on northbound 101 near oakland road. doesn't sound as serious. two vehicles involved. one lane blocked. they are saying no injuries. however, you are south of that 280/680 merge. northbound 101 around the 880 interchange, no issues there. definitely want you to pay attention to your screens. this is a crazy crash that happened last week in florida. we have a vehicle that went

flying into the toll booth. that's hard to watch. one person was even ejected. you saw them flying out of the vehicle. we found out from police the cause of the collision was that the driver was drowsy. you aren't going to believe this. all five people including the person who was ejected were treated and released from the hospital. they'll all be okay. >> oh, my gosh. >> that's a miracle. >> absolutely. >> oh, my goodness. that is one of the craziest crashes i've ever seen. just thank goodness everyone is okay. obviously police are saying, look, driving drowsy is extremely dangerous. >> and almost everybody i know does it. we're all so tired. >> you've got to pull over. that's really the key. >> five people in this let someone else drive. another airplane incident getting a lot of attention this morning. what some united employees are being accused of doing. warriors rookie jordan bell had the time of his life during
