the former fbi director coming under fire again. james comey facing backlash from the blistering report by the justice department's inspector general. the 500-page report calls out comey first for his july 26th news conference criticizing hillary clinton but clearing her of any charges. >> there is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive highly classified information. >> reporter: the report called the move extraordinary and insubordinate saying it violated long-standing department practice and protocol. it also criticizes comey's october surprise announcing the clinton probe was re-opened just 11 days before the election only to later announce no new findings. >> i always thought it would be close. i didn't expect to be totally ambushed at the end. >> reporter: the report found there was no evidence the decision to clear clinton was influenced by political bias. but the inspector general finding comey made a serious

error of judgment saying he was wrong to go public while staying silent on the russia investigation into donald trump. the president and some republicans maintain the actions by comey and fbi agents during the clinton probe showed bias against the president which they say has also affected the special counsel's probe. >> anyone who is hoping to use this report to undermine the mueller probe or prove the existence of a deep state conspiracy against president trump will be sorely disappointed. >> reporter: and that report revealing comey used a personal email account to conduct unclassified fbi business. clinton responding with three words on twitter, writing, but my emails. and responding to the report president trump's lawyer rudy giuliani says robert mueller should suspend his investigation as soon as today. >> all right, that's janai norman for us live in washington. thanks, janai. and the trump administration has chosen rather a small texas border town to build a temporary

tent city in order to house an overflow of immigrant children. the decision comes amid concerns of parents being separated from their kids when they come here illegally, but the administration says it's enforcing the law and maggie rulli has details. >> reporter: outrage is growing from the streets. [ chanting ] >> reporter: to inside the white house briefing room. >> don't you have any empathy for what these people are going through? they have less -- >> brian, guys, settle down. >> it's a serious question. these people have nothing. they come to the border with nothing and you throw children in cages. you're a parent. you're a parent of young children. don't you have any empathy for what they go through? >> go ahead. >> reporter: making politics personal angry over the trump administration's zero tolerance policy which separates families entering illegally at the border. since it was announced in may, nearly 700 children have been separated from their parents. they're simply upholding the law saying that when families enter the country illegally, the

army general during the summit in singapore. north korean state media released this video showing the president returning a salute, then shaking hands with the general. critics say he should not have saluted an officer of a brutal regime but the white house defended the president's gesture as well as his remarks from an interview that were dismissive of kim jong-un's human rights record. >> why is he now downplaying north korea's horrific atrocities? >> the president hasn't downplayed. the president has raised north korea's human rights record and some of the abuses of the north korean regime in a number of occasions. >> he said a lot of other people have done some really bad things. how is that not downplaying the atrocities? >> a lot of people have done some bad thing, however, the president hasn't ignored the bad things that have been done by the north korean regime. >> meanwhile, "the washington n summit by trying to move it up a day at the last minute. he reportedly tried to make the switch after arriving in

singapore on sunday. sources say secretary of state mike pompeo and sarah sanders had to talk him into sticking with the original plan. and breaking overnight, riders on a florida roller coaster were sent plummeting live to the ground after the coaster derailed. two fell more than 30 feet. this was at the daytona boardwalk. video from moments after the accident show riders trying to help each other. firefighters had to use ladders to reach some of the other riders. six people were taken to the hospital. the exact cause of the incident is under investigation. we're learning new details this morning about that powerful tornado that ripped through northeastern pennsylvania. the twister that touched down in wilkes-barre township, pennsylvania, packed winds of up to 130 miles per hour, and it was powerful enough to flip trucks and destroy buildings. sara smith was just starting her overnight shift as a baker at panera bread when she was forced to ride it out inside the walk-in cooler. >> the whole front of the store smashed out and locked me in the cooler. i was trapped in the cooler and

i water pipe burst so water kept coming in, and the water was up to my knees, and i called my mom to tell her that i love her, and i didn't know if i was going to make it out. >> six people were hurt. nearly two dozen businesses were damaged or destroyed. time now for a look at your weather on this friday morning. good morning. we get a bit of a pattern change in the southwest, and this could really be a good thing as there about the four corners area. cool air dips into parts of california and nevada and moisture will kick up but the big story really isn't friday. it turns to saturday when we're watching what's left of bud push through parts of eastern arizona and western new mexico. this could bring one to two inches of rain through parts of the area and help extinguish some fires. meanwhile, it is hot for father's day for many. i'm meteorologist melissa constanzer for accuweather. coming up, why target is no longer selling one of its father's day cards.

this was the scene high over trenton, new jersey, as an airplane banner broke free and fell to the ground. it eventually crashed into a parked car shattering its rear windshield. no one was hurt. the banner was appealing for the expansion of the state's pre-k program. it landed right in front of the headquarters of the new jersey education association. the attorney general of new york is suing president trump and his three oldest children

for alleged violations by their family foundation. they're accused of using charit to pay legal bills, promote their hotels and support his presidential campaign. the president tweeted, the sleazy new york democrats are doing everything they can to sue me on a foundation that gave out to charity more money than it took in. i won't settle this case. >> this is not either a sleazy or political action. this is a straightforward case of violation of the laws governing charitable foundations. >> the lawsuit seeks to force the president and his kids to pay nearly $3 million in restitution, shut down the foundation and prevent the family from leading a nonprofit for at least a decade. president trump will announce today that he plans to impose tariffs on billions of dollars of chinese goods and china says it's ready to fight back. since his campaign the president has promised to crack down on what he calls their

unfair trade practices but some foreign affair analysts say they could retaliate by withdrawing its help to get rid of north korea's nuclear weapons. a recall this morning. kellogg's is recalling boxes of honey smacks after an outbreak of 73 cases of salmonella. there have been at least two dozen hospitalizations but no deaths. the company is recalling the 15 and 23-ounce packages with the best used by dates of june 14th, 2018 through june 14th, 2019. target is apologizing and removing a father's day greeting card that shoppers call racially insensitive. the front of the card shows the outline of a black couple embracing behind the words baby daddy. both target and the card's creator american greetings say they meant no offense and promise to do better in the future. >> good idea. coming up, pharmacy giant walgreens facing a lawsuit in connection with the open i had epidemic. also ahead, a stranger becomes a hero. how a fisherman saved a girl after she was sucked under a dam.

was temporarily closed. investigators believe that the shootings were random. kentucky's attorney general is suing walgreens accusing the drugstore chain of participating in the opioid epidemic. the lawsuit claims walgreens filed such large quantities of narcotic pain medication so frequently there could be no legitimate medical purpose for their use. the lawsuit is asking the chain to stop its pharmacies from filling suspicious prescriptions. hundreds of beachgoers in florida are now recovering from a rash of jellyfish stings. about 1200 people in daytona beach were stung this week by swarms of jellyfish. that looks painful. none of the stings were life-threatening. ocean rescue officials say such swarms happen about once a year, and they say that if you are stung, get out of the water immediately. do not rub that sting but rinse it with vinegar. and an ohio fisherman is getting some credit for saving a teenager's life. the girl had gone swimming with friends at about 2:00 in the morning when she was sucked in under the current and under the charles mill dam.

a man who was fishing nearby saw that she was about to be swept downstream and actually rescued her. >> i don't think there even was a decision. i just went. i mean i just threw in my pole and went straight in. >> how many people are out here at 2:15 in the morning that know cpr. >> good timing, indeed. once he got her back on shore he started cpr until emergency crews arrived. the year-long comeback from an attempt on his life is complete for congressman steve scalise. the louisiana republican was among four people shot while practicing for last year's congressional charity baseball game. last night scalise took the field. he played second base for the gop. he actually made the first out of the game. it was an impressive play. scalise was then mobbed by players on both teams, and afterwards he tweeted, i've still got it. >> good for him. >> that's good stuff. and the world cup in russia kicks into high gear with three matches on the schedule. the tournament started perfectly for the home team in their game against saudi arabia. >> russia simply overwhelmed the saudis.

friday light. >> we do have light volumes but we do already have an issue if you're leaving the tracy area. this is pretty deep into the tracy stretch. westbound 205 past grant line road. a vehicle left the roadway, flipped over a few times and is down an embankment right now. we could have an onlooker delay. for now everything is okay, approaching stop and go traffic once you get past that scene emeryville looking good westbound 80 towards the maze, looking good so far. this morning b.a.r.t. police are investigating an apparent stabbing at the concord b.a.r.t. station. the incident was reported just after 11:30 last night. this is new video into our abc 7 newsroom. police say one person suffered a cut in the altercation causing at least a minor injury and one person was taken into custody by b.a.r.t. officers. that investigation still under way this morning.

abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield will be at the scene later this morning. she'll bring us a live report at 5:00 a.m. >> in the east bay a funeral home was put on lockdown. grieving families were stuck inside after someone shot five people. this happened outside the chapel of the chimes last night on the haywood and union city border. there was one service taking place inside when the shooting started outside. three victims were found in the parking lot across the street. one person was found at a nearby 7-eleven and the fifth victim drove him or herself to the hospital. >> it was right outside my mom's viewing. we were on lockdown for an hour and we were there the whole time. they told us not to go out. >> officers arrived and it was a very chaotic scene. they didn't know who was involved with the situation. we weren't sure if we were contacting suspects or victims
