live in san mateo, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> a live desk update from abc 7 mornings. right now at least three people are dead after a 6.1 magnitude quake hit japan. sadly, a falling concrete wall at a school killed a 9-year-old girl. the two other deaths were men in their 80s. mo are than 300 others were injured t. quake was centered in osaka in western japan early in the morning as commuters were headed to work. look at the new images we got from overnight. right now there are several reports of more deaths, but those need to be confirmed. tens of thousands of people are without power or water. schools across the country are closed for frs that more walls are damaged and more kids could get hurt. i'll be watching for updates, especially on those numbers that might change throughout our newscast. back to you. time to get you updated on weather and traffic. we start with mike nicco. >> hey, reggie and natasha. you can see it's a touch

breezy -- touch of breezy out, if you will, for this monday morning. not nearly as breezy as it was over the weekend. that's what's going to jump start our warming trend for the early parts of this week. let's focus in on just this monday. mostly cloudy, mid to upper 50s at 10:00. the sea breeze kicks in and you're not going to get total sunshine like you did over the weekend at the coast. you actually drop down into the 50s during the afternoon and evening hours while we hit 75 to 81 around the bay and inland. at 7:00 a very comfortable 69 to 72. let's get another check on that morning commute with alexis. >> starting off with a few trouble spots this morning, mike. want to take you to oakland, eastbound 580 past 24, east of the 24 interchange. we're hearing about a solo vehicle spinout crash. blocking two lanes it sounds like, not sure if that's on the

connector or 580. trying to get more information right now, but i'm not seeing any delays approaching the scene. westbound 580 trying to get to the maze, you shouldn't have any problems here. no metering lights yet. a stackup starting to build in the cash lanes. next update just before 4:40. the trump administration's practice of separating children from their parents at the border is coming under increasing fire this morning. >> not only democrats, but the first lady and former first lady are weighing in. abc news reporter stephanie ramos joins us live from washington with the latest details. good morning, stephanie. >> good morning. the number of children being taken from their parents at the crossing into the united states is now at about 2,000 children. despite opposition and heartbreaking imageimages, the y is

lawmakers protesting to immigration advocates, even visiting a detention center outside new york city. >> we spoke to fathers whose children have been ripped from their arms, who have no idea when or if they'll see their children again. >> reporter: some lawmakers calling president trump's zero tolerance policy inhumane and un-american. >> there's no policy justification for this. it's political. >> reporter: today they're being charged with a criminal offense instead of a civil offense. so their kids are being taken away. even those individuals seeking asylum. many of the kids seen sleeping on mats at this facility in texas where families are being held. steve bannon pushing the white house agenda on "this week." >> the morality isn't the law. they're criminals when they come across illegally and that's why they're getting separated. >> reporter: first lady melania

trump commenting for the first time publicly on the issue. she believes we need to be a country that follows all laws but also a country that governs were heart. blasting the policy, writing an opinion ed in "the washington post." i live in a border state. i appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero tolerance policy is cruel. it is immoral and it breaks my heart. >> president trump is set to meet with lawmakers on tuesday to talk immigration. there are two bills that will be heard on the house floor this week. in washington, stephanie ramos, abc 7 news. >> stephanie, thank you. a large group of people spent father's day in richmond protesting the policy of separating migrant families at the border. about 60 people demonstrated outside the facility where i.c.e. housed undocumented

detainees. one man got emotional describing the situation. >> i just think it's not very american, and i feel like if i was a father, and my child was taken away, i'd want people to support us. it gets me. i think it's really wrong. >> nancy pelosi will visit the border to see the impact on the efforts to crack down. an suv killing five people was involved in a smuggling operation. all the victims were undocumented immigrants. officials say an agent saw the vehicle traveling with two others on the rural highway about 25 miles from the mexico border yesterday. agents pulled two of them over. the third vehicle went on a chase and out of control at more than 100 miles per hour. voter turnout for the june 5th primary is set to exceed

numbers. five california counties including san mateo and napa switched to mail-in ballots instead. in napa voter turnout was at least 37%. san mateo is still counting its ballots. officials say they will use the same model of mail-in ballots in november because voters say it was easier than having to go to voting centers the day of. >> san francisco voters will get to decide in november if the city should create a high-speed internet service. san francisco's mayor ed lee had been pushing for a locally run broadband system for years. now current mayor mark farrell has decided against it on the ballot. he didn't give the reason why. he had until tomorrow to submit a tax proposal. >> you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. mid 50s in our east bay valleys. in livermore, 52, some of the

cool spots. if you're coming in from the east bay across the bay bridge, you can see it's nice and dry. no drizzle this morning, no fog. a little cloudy, but those clouds should remain above any area you're driving through today. lighter breezes out on the water today. mass transit cool this morning. but it's going to be warm this afternoon. let's take a look at san francisco over the last 12 hours. starting at 56. a lot of cloud cover. hit the mid 60s in the afternoon hours and the clouds will start coming in again late this afternoon and will drop us down to about 56 degrees. in the south bay 61 this morning, hanging out in the mid to upper 70s through 6:00. a comfortable 68 at 8:00. the north bay, a little cooler with 57 this morning. the shroud difficultness will see sunshine. by noon, mid 70s in the afternoon hours. a little chill bibi 8:00 at

about 65 degrees. we have 90s coming back into the forecast. i'll show you those in just a second. first, already having issues on a monday morning. >> we do. a few trouble spots. no major backups yet. that is good news. no problem spots on southbound 680 through walnut creek. looks like folks starting to hit the brakes as things fill in. we have a collision through much of the shoulder, that would be westbound 580 including tracy. a two-car crash around grand line road. getting into dublin, 39 minutes. hopefully when emergency crews arrive, they won't have to take a lane away. northbound 85 between 101 and cupertino looking great at 16 minutes. we have a crash with a vehicle facing sideways on east 580 in oakland. we'll look at that next. video games work hard to hook players. a health group says some gamers

it's not as breezy between the two areas. cloud cover more stubborn along the coast. 88 to about 90 threw the central valley. low 70s in san diego and los angeles, and 98 in palm springs. 84 in yosemitend in tahoe it's going to be 67 degrees. the coolest day this week -- look at these temperatures, the average high is 73. we'll be at 75 tomorrow and then low to mid 80s, nearing record highs wednesday through sunday. >> mike, thank you. happening today, gaming disorder will officially be recognized as a medical condition. the term will be in a new draft of the world health organization's classification of diseases. officials say it could not only make gamers more likely to seek treatment if they need it and make therapists more likely to provide it, insurance companies may be more likely to provide coverage. for the diagnosis to be made, it needs to be for more than a year. mosquitos tested positive

for the west nile virus. the spraying will start 11:00 tomorrow night, centered at reid and east evelyn avenue. residents are asked to close windows and stay inside during that spraying. a san francisco band is returning home after a heartbreaking road trip. all of their gear was stolen from their hotel parking lot at the beginning of their tour and caught the attention of a rock and roll hall of famer. abc's lilian kim has the story. >> reporter: things have been going well for the stone foxes. they just came with a new single and one of their songs on a recent budweiser commercial. on june 6, the san francisco band endured a huge setback. they just performed in dallas when they woke up the next morning to find all of their equipment gone. channing caylor says their gear was stored inside a trailer attached to their van. >> it's like the bottom of your

mexico beat reigning champs germany. the earthquakes are hosting watch parties for every world cupmatch. >> everything makes sense when mexico wins. everybody comes together, puts everything else aside. >> we beat the champs, the world champs right now. >> if you thought local fans were excited, in mexico city fans celebrating the winning goal caused such a ruckus that the sensors in the area thought there was an earthquake. there wasn't. it was so many excited fans. >> that's what you love about sports, brings everybody together and unites everybody like that. that's awesome. maybe in four years we can do it, too, if we qualify. here is a look at walnut creek and this is one of the areas. the east bay inland will see one of the biggest jumps. walnut creek from 76 to 82.
