pleasant. by 7:00, 57 at the coast and about 70 to 72 degrees. a great evening on tap. let's find out more about that commute. we have a new problem in the hayward area, southbound 880 south of state roud 92. we have a sedan, a pickup truck and motorcycle all involved. the two left lanes are involved. at least one of those vehicles did flip over. we possibly have injuries, too. i will follow up on that in just a few minutes. southbound 101 across the golden gate bridge, as usual, we' we'r light if you're commuting in. a series of suspicious fires broke out in santa rosa over the weekend. >> arson investigators are saying they are likely linked. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live in santa rosa this morning. >> reporter: good morning, reggie.

they all happened saturday night, all close to fire station number 10. we're in southwest santa rosa. they say there could have been as many as 13 fires. they were all small grass fires. they all happened within two hours of each other. officials say this was obviously arson. >> suspicious activity, obviously, because of the number of sets in the short number of time in a very small proximity. >> no structures burned, no one was hurt. this all happend in grass along railroad tracks or hiking trails. no arrests have been made. officials do believe the person is using a butane lighter to start these and that the person is traveling on bicycle. fights say they know this community is especially anxious about fires after the october wildfires. they say they now activate help from other jurisdictions quicker than they did before the october

fires. so they are ready to respond. live in santa rosa, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> certainly not what santa rosa needs. amy, thank you. several firefighting agencies contained two grass fires. they pitched in to knock down the flames yesterday afternoon. the fires burned a total of 60 acres along highway 84. chp temporarily shut down several lanes in the pigeon pass area. if you're in the south bay and you see smoke, it's probably coming from joseph d. grant county park. cal fire is planning to do a controlled burn to clear hundreds of acres of brush in the park. fire officials say people in southern share and southern santa clara valley will likely see the smoke today and tomorrow. demonstrations in the bay area calling for a change to the trags's policy of separating

parents and their children who have entered the u.s. illegally. we're getting new footage inside a detention center. this comes as president trump heads to capitol hill to discuss proposals coming up for a vote this week. here is abc's ryan smith. >> reporter: in this morning's "gma first look," outrage of the trump administration's sear rhee tolerance party for undocumented immigrants and asylum seekers is growing. from new jersey where seven congressmen demanded entry into this detention center. protesters marching by the hundreds outside a facility near el paso. farther south in mcgowan, where more than 1,000 detainees, men, women and children are being held temporarily. and these images released by the homeland security, you can see the sprawling array offensed in cells and bare floors. >> i don't think this should be happening and something has to

be done. >> reporter: coming at 7:00 a.m., we'll have full live coverage and the latest response from the white house. with your gma first look, ryan smith, abc news, new york. 5:04 now. most people know about hospitals run by the veterans administration. fewer are aware of the agency running nursing homes. recently released documents show that nearly half of those nursing homes receive the lowest score possible in health quality. three of them are in the bay area, specifically san francisco, palo alto and menlo park. the stats were released after questions about the secrecy from the u.s.a. today. none of the three locations were available for comment this morning. thousands of bay area homes could be flooded by 2045 according to a new climate report. marin county would be the hardest hit spot in the state with nearly 4400 homes flooded. san mateo county is next on the list with 4100 homes.

more than 20,000 homes in california are at risk because of rising sea levels. nationwide, about 311,000 homes are at risk of getting swamped. the report was put together by the union of concerned scientists. retesting results of soil samples from the hunters point naval shipyard will be available next year at the earliest. it will cost $250 million. the u.s. navy will pay for the retesting. this after two whistleblowers after tetra tech admitted to faking samples and falsifying records. the department of public health will run the tests starting next week. london breed will be swarn in as san francisco's mayor next month. breed received the most first place votes in the ranked choice system in san francisco. former state senator mark renault had the number two votes. yesterday on abc 7 mornings,

breed said she's going to hit the ground running. >> the campaign is over. let's move forward. let's work together and i truly believe we have a number of members on the board of supervisors who care about san francisco and care about getting the job done and we will work together to do that. in her first 100 days, breed says she wants to remove all tent encampments and get people into housing. she also wants to hire more police officers. >> you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. let's talk temperatures. we'll start in san francisco where we go from about 53 in sunny side to the financial district at 57. it's only about a three to four-degree spread across the entire city. mid to upper 50s along the bayshore and into the south bay. union city about 60. mid to upper 50s east bay valleys, north bay, a little cooler in daly city. here is a look at santa cruz where it's pretty cloudy. if you go into the ocean today, it will be cloudy, maybe not

quite as much sunshine. if you're exercising, warmer today but very comfortable with light humidity. on the bay, slower breezes. so not as choppy as it was over the weekend. here is a look at the peninsula over the next 12 hours. 61 with cloud cover. sunshine and mid 60s by 10:00. total sunshine for the rest of the day. 70 at noon to mid 70s at about 5:00 and falling back to 66 by 8:00. if you're outsid in the east bay valleys, warmer today and not as breezy as it was over the weekend. 61 with cloud cover. hanging out in the 80s from 2:00 to 4:00. and the east bayshore line, 65. notice the clouds linger a little longer when we go from 60 to 65 from 8:00 to 10:00. sunshine at noon and we'll hang out in the low to mid 70s through 6:00. grab a coat if you're heading out this evening, 64 degrees. some of us may need to run the air conditioners. i'll show you the accuweather

seven-day forecast next. here is alexis with an update. >> we had a crash that sounded like it could be pretty serious. three vehicles involved on the nimitz, southbound 880 just past state route 92. officials are on scene saying it's a little south of there near tennison. hearing we've got a new crash around the westbound 92 and 880 interchange. it looks like heavy traffic as you head towards hayward. although that just disappeared. we'll double check and make sure that's actually there. down to nine miles an hour approaching. hopefully we'll get more lanes open soon. 41 b.a.r.t. trains in service. no issues there. a nice day at san francisco bay ferry. no delays. so r, so good for capitol corridor. normal service and no delays. new from overnight, the audi ceo rupert stadler was detained by german authorities. this is a picture of him from their website. it's all related to the

volkswagen diesel emissions case. this comes after prosecutors last week search his home. german authorities are looking at 20 people suspected of fraud in this case. the probe focuses on cars sold in europe thought to be equipped with software which turned emission controls off during regular driving. volkswagen pleaded guilty to criminal charges in the united states. there are two managers serving prison time here in the u.s. beginning this month caltrans will install what are called mumble strips along highway 1 in marin. they use both noise and vibration alert drivers when they're drifting over the center line. they'll be installed between mill valley and valley ford road near the county line. construction should finish in october. wow. he must be dead. are you dead, sir? >> whoa. video shows a local doctor

one of many devastating scenes in michigan where there is historic damage from rain. a flash flood ripped apart this road yesterday in houghton, that's near lake superior or as alexis told me, pretty much canada. more than 60 sinkholes reported in michigan. luckily no reports of injuries so far. i want to take a look at what's going to happen today as we look at walnut creek right there. you're going to see our inland neighborhoods in the north bay and east bay get the warming trend first while the rest of us will wait until tomorrow. this one coming up in my accuweather seven-day forecast. >> a doctor in los gatos is under investigation after a patient complained of the doctor being physically and verbally

abusive. abc 7 news reporter carolyn tyler has the story. >> sit up, come on. sit up. >> i can't. >> sit up. >> this emergency room doctor is banned from working at el camino hospital los gatos after she was caught on camera mocking and cursing one of her patients. >> i knew from when she said something to the security guard, i already knew from that point, i said, hey, can you please take out your phone. i need you to take out your phone now because i have a feeling something is going to happen. >> reporter: samuel bardwell collapsed during basketball practice and waited more than three hours to be scene. he said he told the doctor he was numb, in extreme pain and having trouble breathing. >> i just tried to inhale and i even told her i could not inhale. >> you can't inhale. wow, he must be dead. are you dead, sir? i don't understand.

the area around the tree. drivers are asked to watch out for the eaglet. an electrical malfunction is blamed for starting a fire at the torch light in the santa cruz boardwalk. all 69 people in the hotel were able to get out. the american red cross is helping the guests with housing options. one of the victims of last week's roller coaster derailment in florida is speaking out on gma. nine people were hurt riding the sand blaster coaster in the daytona boardwalk. amanda bostick was thrown 34 feet to the ground and says she was just praying for the coaster to stop. >> i remember hearing a lot of screeching, a lot of sounds that just weren't right. i closed my eyes. i held on. i remember being airborne, feeling as if i was falling. and then the next thing i

you can see by 7:00, they're starting to make a march off towards the east. as far as san francisco goes, we'll break out in sunshine, especially on the bay side. on the coast side a little grayer with temperatures running from about 56 to 63 at 4:00. could hit upper 60s on the bay side for highs. 58 at 7:00. 4:00 in 70. low to mid 70s low to mid 70s low t o mid 70s for millbrae. upper 50s along the coast. the south bay starting off at 58 warming to about 78 by 4:00. in between, 76 in milpitas. in the north bay, warmer than yesterday even though we're starting off cooler in the low 50s. end up in the mid to upper in most neighborhoods. you see the 80s coming back today. here is my accuweather seven-day forecast.

what you're going to notice is the first heat wave peaks tomorrow, pulls back wednesday and thursday and then a more robust warming trend for friday, saturday and sunday. here is alexis. >> good morning, mike. we still have a headache in the hayward area, we've got a three-car crash involving a rollover southbound 880 past 92. that's blocking two left lanes. we have a secondary crash just behind that one, right up der 92. we don't have any injuries involved. they're already calling for a tow truck. that continues to stack up. that's heading toward state route 238 and will add 15, 20 minutes to your commute. getting busier at the bay bridge toll plaza. have not gotten official word yesterday. it looks like the metering lights have been turned on this morning. our drive times doing okay, westbound 80, highway 4 to the maze, 17 minutes. southbound 101, san francisco to sfo looking great at nine minutes. >> thanks, alexis.

>> the city's last video rental store closed after being in business for nearly 40 years. abc 7 news was inside five star video in solano avenue when customers rented movies for the last time. owner andy katz bought the store in the 1980s when vhs was high tech. katz reflected on how it feels to go out of business. >> it's a strange day. i've known it's coming, but when it actually is upon you, you feel different. you feel different. mixed emotions. five-star plans an on core for next month. that's when the video store will sell off its collection of dvds. a great white shark washed up on the beach? santa cruz. the cron castro valley reports a shark researcher doesn't think any of the wounds killed the

good morning, stephanie. >> natasha and reggie, good morning. the number of children taken away from their parents after crossing into the united states illegally is now at about 2,000 children. despite criticism from lawmakers and heartbreaking images, the administration's zero-tolerance policy is still in place. this morning an all-out battle brewing over president trump's continual policy of separating children from their parents who illegally cross the border. lawmakers protesting with immigration advocates, even visiting a detention center outside new york city. >> we spoke to fathers whose children have been ripped from their arms, who have no idea when or if they'll see their children again. >> reporter: some lawmakers calling president trump's zero-tolerance policy inhumane and un-american. >> there's no policy justification for this. it's all political. >> reporter: today undocumented immigrants who cross the border illegally are being charged with a criminal offense instead of a

civil offense, so their kids are being taken away, even those individuals seeking asylum. many of the kids seen sleeping on mats at this facility in mcgowan, texas, where families are being held. trump's former chief strategist steve bannon pushing the agenda on "this week." >> the morality is the law. they're criminals when they come across illegally. >> reporter: first lady melania trump commenting for the first time. she believes we need to be a country that follows all laws but also a country that governs with heart. even former first lady laura bush blasting the poll seerks writing an op ed, i live in a border state. i appreciate the need to protect our boundaries. this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. it is immoral and it breaks my heart. president trump is set to meet with republican lawmakers in congress on tuesday to talk

immigration. there are two immigration bills that will be heard on the house floor this week. reporting live from washington, stephanie ramos, abc 7 news. natasha, back over to you. >> stephanie, thank you. meanwhile, a large group of people spent father's day in richmond protesting the policy. about 60 people demonstrated outside the west county detention facility where i.c.e. has housed undocumented detainees. one man got emotional describing the situation. >> i just think it's not very american, and i feel like if i was a father and my son was taken away, i'd want people to support us. i don't know. it gets me. i just think it's really wrong. >> house minority leader nancy pelosi will visit the u.s.-mexico border to see the impact of the administration's efforts to crack down on illegal immigration there. the u.s. border patrol says an suv that crashed in texas

killing five people was involved in a smuggling operation. agents saw the vehicle traveling with two others about 25 miles from the mexico border. agents pulled two of them over. but the third vehicle led vehicles on a clays and went out of control at more than 100 miles per hour. it was pacted with 14 people. police arrested the driver who is a u.s. citizen. parents are creeped out and are warning other families about a man who likes to take photos of kids he doesn't know. >> the most recent incident happened this week into at the san mateo county fair. abc 7 news reporter matt keller live at san jose police headquarters this morning. >> reporter: good morning, san mateo police say they're still investigating this man who claims to be an amateur photographer, but says so far doesn't appear he's done anything illegal. >> we did look through the photos on his camera. he had deleted the ones he took of the reporting party's children, and there was no other

suspicious photographs on there. >> reporter: saturday nitrogen fer saw a stranger taking pictes of her 3-year-old son while he was getting his face painted at the san mateo county fair. she snapped two photos of him which we blurred because he has not been interested. she says he didn't appear to be an amateur photographer. >> he had a hand-held digital camera from like 2001 and he was keeping it hidden in his hand taking pictures. it wasn't like you could see the camera unless you were really looking at him. >> reporter: another mom who did not want to be identified said the same man took a picture of her 2-year-old son while she was shoping at a grocery store in burlingame last week. san francisco police are looking to spook with anyone who may have seen this man taking pictures. matt keller, abc news.

right now at least three people are dead after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit japan. i want to show you this new video from overnight. you can see the shaking. sadly one of the victims was a 9-year-old school girl. she died when a concrete wall at her school fell. two other deaths were men in their 80s. meanwhile hundreds of others were injured. this quake was centered in osaka in west attorney japan as commuters were heading to work. there are reports of several more deaths that need to be confirmed at this point. you can see tens of thousands of people are without power or water right now. in fact, the schools across the country as well closed for fear that more walls could come tumbling down. i'll be watching for updates throughout our newscast and i'll have an update when we get it. voter turnout from the june 5th primary is expected to exceed numbers in the last midterm primary. fire counties in california including napa and san mateo turned to mail-in ballots.

crash that involved three vehicles, a sedan, pickup truck. not sure which one of those flipped. but we have the two left lanes blocked at this point. we have another crash in the area around the 92 and 880 connector. that was much more nine nor. they're working on clearing that, too. using our distance measuring tool, you're backed up for about four miles, just to about 238, that connection if you're coming in from castro valley. that's our biggest issue so far today. it's been there for close to an hour. hopefully we'll get those lanes back open shortly or at least one of them. westbound 580 tracy to dublin, stop and go, one hour and two minutes. westbound 4 antioch to concord in the green at 17. southbound 101 sfran rafael francisco in the green at 18 minutes. several city leaders including san francisco's late mayor ed lee have been pushing for a locally run broadband system for years.
