ci -- castillo. she's live with the story. amanda? >> reporter: they spoke out calling the policy unamerican, unchristian, and inhumane. those are powerful words that a lot of people are agreeing with, especially after hearing that heart breaking audio of the children calling out for their families. >> to use children as a pawn in a game of economics and trade policies is immoral and unethical and it defeats what we stand for as a country. >> reporter: a country that is actively prosecuting adults crossing its borders illegally, a practice that is being felt and feared in places like san jose, santa teresa catholic church. >> there are migrant workers and undocumented people in this county. some come to this parish. >> reporter: he said it is not just separation. children are suffering. but san francisco republican leader howard epstein says it's a price that needs to be paid. >> it's unfortunate, but it's

>> in recent news, police made arrests in attacks. they recognized the suspect from this surveillance. he kicks a homeless man in the tenderloin. he has been charged with aggravated assault. he is accused of attacking a man riding a muni bus on 8th street and mission. both attacks happened last month. >> there is real concern in santa rosa over an arsonist on the loose. police say someone deliberately set more than a dozen fires over the weekend just south of an area devastated by the north bay wildfires. abc7 news reporter kate larson is live in santa rosa tonight with the story. kate, it's understandable. >> reporter: absolutely, dan. you know we're on stoney point road which is extremely busy and it's also right next to a bike path which is completely exposed and yet the arsonist decided to set one of the fires right here. did i mention we're surrounded by neighborhoods?

>> oh, very scary. >> reporter: eva lives on a cul-de-sac in santa rosa. her house is on one side of 6th street and a bike path is on the other side. that's where someone was lighting fires over the weekend which eva says could have trapped her in her home. >> you see it's a circle in here and we cannot get anywhere. we don't know what to do with this kind of people. i heard that sometimes our homeless, but i don't see anything. >> reporter: investigators say someone set the fires around 11:40 saturday night which reminded eva of the fires in october which also started late at night and burned her sister's home in coffee park. >> they are playing with fire, we can lose lives. >> reporter: video from droneview7 shows the path saturday's arsonist took, lighting 13 fires within an hour. next to the railroad tracks along hern avenue and the trail. police believe arsonist was riding a bicycle.

>> how quickly the fire started and the locations it would be hard for somebody to move that fast on foot and start the fires. >> it's dry back there. >> reporter: steven shaw lives on glenn brook drive. several burned in the creek bed behind his home. >> it worries me. i hope the police are going to take care of ti heard they were looking for people. >> reporter: police say they are canvassing the area for more witnesses and also as of today they are offering a $2,500 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever started the fires. live in santa rosa, i'm kate larson, abc7 news. >> all right, kate, thanks so much. will we face an increased wildfire risk this week? looking live from our exploratorium camera at pier 15, conditions are calm. but that's going to change. abc7 news meteorologist drew tuma has a look at what we can expect. drew. >> yeah, dan. change will come with the combo of warm and very dry air by the end of the week. look at highs forecasted by friday afternoon. well into the 80s and 90s away

from the coast, if not very close to 100 degrees to round out the week. that warm and hot afternoon creates higher fire danger not only friday, but saturday. combine that with low humidity levels and dry vegetation, that means fires can easily start and spread under those conditions. so take a look at how long that heat will last, how hot we'll get, and also show you what you can expect tomorrow afternoon in the full accuweather forecast in a few minutes, guys. >> all right, drew, thank you. the branson school in ross has hired a law firm to investigate allegations of sexual abuse against girls by a school employee. the marin independent journal says three former students have come forward to report the abuse at the prestigious private school in the 1970s. a letter to the school community says the allegations are deeply upsetting and ask that anyone with additional information to come forward. >> an unusual sight fire crews in san francisco respond head first to a call of a burning futon tucked between concrete

abc7 news reporter lilian kim is live at the berkeley marina tonight with the story. lilian? >> reporter: dan, chang was a member of the dragon boat team that's based here. that's one of the boats they use regularly. they say chung was a skilled paddler who was always willing to lend a hand. members of the dragon max dragon boat team are in disbelief one of their own died in the same marina where they practice nearly every day. 38-year-old chris chung had been paddling alone in an outrigger canoe went something went wrong. a passerby spotted his body floating in the water saturday afternoon. >> i was in shock. even numb. he always had a smile. >> whenever i saw him he was smiling walking down casually. >> reporter: chung lived in walnut creek and worked as a chiropractor in the south bay the team said he was willing to help anyway he could. >> some doctors are afraid of liabilities. chris was just so giving. there was no hesitation for him

to help people out and work with us. >> reporter: it's unclear what may have happened out on the water. chung's vest was found inside the ka gncanoe. it was also windy 35 miles per hour. >> his skill level was good enough, high enough that it shouldn't have happened. >> reporter: the coroner has yet to determine a cause and manner of death. that process could take several weeks. in berkeley, lilian kim, abc7 news. >> lilian, thank you. tesla ceo elon musk has sent an e-mail to his employees about a factory fire that seems to imply possible sabotage. a company statement says the fire happened in an air filter and was quickly put out. electric car website electric has obtained a copy of the letter in which musk alleges he's discovered a saboteur in the company's ranks. he claims a person changed a code to an internal product and exported data to outsiders.

and tesla has released details of more than 500 job cuts in the bay area. bloomberg reports that 420 employees at the fremont assembly plant will go along with 86 workers from company headquarters in palo alto. >> if you ever take uber, there is a new way or you to save money here in the bay area. uber is reportedly offering cheaper fares if you're prepared to wait for your ride. it is testing a feature that prompts riders to delay their pickup rather than request a ride now. the test cities are san francisco and los angeles. >> san francisco's pride parade is this sunday and tonight the san francisco lgbt center held a center of pride fund-raiser to help kickoff this week's festivities. proceeds from tonight's event will go toward expanding the center's outreach to homeless lgbt youth by providing warm meals, job opportunities and internships. the excitement surrounding pride could be felt throughout the building. >> if you ride bart or if you

so go in a little bit closer show you the 30 degree spread in temperatures. cool on the coast, 59 in half moon bay. downtown san francisco about 66 and breezy in the afternoon. little warmer in oakland at 71. then those numbers really jump as you get inland from walnut creek 87 degrees. antioch and we're nearing 90 tomorrow afternoon. and that 89 inland tomorrow, it's going to feel cool compared to the air mass we have moving in by friday. temperature wise, it's not all that bad out there. it's a little cool on the coast. we're in the 50s there. couple 60s on the board from concord to san jose. we're at 54, though, in san rafael. a bit of a breeze out there. it's breezy in fairfield now. wind at 21 miles per hour. 13 in san francisco and we'll have this breeze with us tomorrow afternoon as well. so, future tracker wind gusts by 5:00, 6:00 tuesday evening, it will be breezy around the region, 10 to say 20 miles an hour, a little higher on the coast. but this wind will keep us comfortable in the afternoon, not too hot tomorrow.
