14 at sfo, 13 in livermore. that's a stout sea breeze that will keep our temperatures in check today. waking up and heading out now through 7:00. temperatures hanging out in the low to upper 50s. 52 to 57 is our spread. notice at noon, mid 50s at the coast. 74 to 80, that's not bad either for the latter parts of june. by 7:00 we're 55 at the coast, 67 to 70 around our bay and inland neighborhoods. hope you enjoy the cool weather. i've got heat coming at you at the accuweather seven-day forecast. we're taking a look at the bay bridge commute yesterday. if you were with us, we had very heavy volumes very early, due to road work, a bridge inspection that went until 5k a.m. the same thing happening today, but supposedly did clear well ahead of schedule, about 20 minutes ago. although this is pretty heavy for bay bridge traffic heading

into san francisco. yesterday the metering lights came on at 4:45. only a normal week day, it's about 5:20. overall looking pretty typical if you're doing that bay bridge commute and drive times looking okay, too. westbound 80, highway 4 to the maze, 18 minutes, nine minutes across the bay bridge. no delays if you're heading southbound leaving san francisco heading to sfo. next traffic update in about ten minutes. breaking news from the abc 7 live desk. that breaking news in san francisco, a van crashing into a building. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is at the scene at clement and arguello. what's the latest there? >> reporter: hi, jessica. the fan is still here. the people who live here are not. you can see the van is in the garage. that's where it came to a stop. but the people who live in this apartment complex have been told by police they need to go somewhere else at least for now. this van crashed at arguello and

clement here in san francisco. the driver was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. witnesses say they could feel the building shake when the van h hit. >> there was a lyft driver that stopped, was doing a drop-off over here. thank goodness for that guy. he was the first one here. he dialed 911 and checked on the guy. the guy was awake. we could hear him talking, telling us that he's injured and that he's bleeding. >> reporter: officials shut off the utilities out of concern for safety. so the res drenidents are all sg somewhere else for now. police say they don't know why this van crashed. they need to obviously talk to that driver who is recovering in the hospital. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7

>> the abc 7 news app sent out a push alert this morning shortly after the van crashed. you can download the app for free and make sure you enable those push alerts. going to turn now to several bay area mayors, on the same page when it comes to separating families at the border. >> libby schaaf calling it ruthless and heartless. urging state senators to support the keeping families together act. san francisco mayor mark farrell is calling for clear, humane reunification plans. incoming san francisco mayor london breed said, quote, as mayor elect i will continue to support our immigrant communities and fight for comprehensive immigration reform so all our familiar lease can live without fear of separation or deportation. >> scott weiner said, let's be clear, contractors that build baby cages and detention centers for immigrant kids shouldn't be allowed to do business for our state. he didn't say if he's working on any sort of bill. this comes as president trump and top administration

officials remain unapologetic as they defense the zero-tolerance policies at the border. >> some psychologists say the separation could have serious long-term consequences for these kids. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo has more. >> reporter: it's clear child abuse. by now we've seen the images. we've heard the audio. we know nearly 2,000 immigrant children have been separated from their parents and being held in fenced cages at a border facility. >> you're basically traumatizing a whole cohort of children and families that won't go away when the border issues are resolved. >> reporter: issues psychology professor thomas plant say will leave a lasting, traumatic impact on the kids. e estimates at least a third will experience ptsd. because of the abrupt separation, all will suffer in some way. >> i didn't think it was that big of an impact

activities. we are learning a san francisco officer who shot and hurt a man earlier this month was also involved in a deadly shooting six years ago. >> a warning, some people might find this video from earlier this month disturbing. [ gunshots ]. >> get down. get down. >> foot pursuit. >> investigators say joshua cab illo shot a suspect in the back on a crowded sidewalk in north beach june 9th. body cam video shows the man running and tossing a gun before being shot. he was also involved in the controversial shooting of 15-year-old derrick gains at a gas station. he claimed the teen was reaching for a gun. gaines did have a gun that turned out to be inoperable. the d.a. did not file charges. take a look at your screen. police want to find this man seen on camera taking that puppy in san jose. this happened monday afternoon on baring drive. the suspect walked into the business, into that garage.

for some of the surfers out there. they love hitting those big waves. you go from north of the bay bridge and east of the golden gate bridge al the way through the delta. southwest winds at 15 to 25 knots, going up to about 9:00. let's talk about our east bay valleys, comfortable from 60 this morning with cloud cover. sunshine by 10:00 and 66. hanging out in the mid to upper 70s except for a little window between 3:00 and 5:00 when we hit the 80s, back down to 69 at 8:00. in the north bay, the breezes are going to keep you pretty comfortable, also, from 56 and cloudy this morning, finally see some sunshine around noon and mid to upper 70s for the better part of the afternoon hours, also dropping down into the mid 60s by 8:00. the east bayshore line, we're going to stay mainly in the mid to upper 60s from noon to 6:00. a few areas around 3:00 that might spike to around 70 degrees. talking about it all week, newest numbers and how many days we may hit 100 coming up in the

accuweather seven-day forecast. >> good morning, mike. off to a fairly quiet start so far today. we don't have major issues, too. we have one new problem, pretty minor in the south bay. southbound 280 near highway 17, we have a vehicle fire. not sure if that crashed before it burst into flames or if that simply caught fire and that person is out of the vehicle. we do have emergency crews on the scene. but i'm not seeing any delays in the area. also a quick check of drive times southbound 680 highway 4 to walnut creek, six minutes. another eight minutes if you're continuing on to westbound 24 from walnut creek to highway 13. westbound 580 tracy to dublin, you're under and hour at 59 minutes. new developments for a san mateo police officer critically injured in a major accident last week. gofundme is raising tons of money for him and his family. the officer was driving home on thursday when he was involved in a major collision near the highway 205/interstate 5

was made into a movie has been urging fire victims to take legal action. legal teams have taken dead aim on pg&e with billions in claims especially since recent reports by cal fire blame the utility's power lines for sparking the fire. >> i'm here for the people. oftentimes they'll be uncomfortable or they don't think they should get representation or need representation and that's not true. i want people to know their rights. >> we reached out to pg&e for reaction. the utility issuing the statement that reads, quote, the loss of lives, homes and businesses is heartbreaking. we remain focused on helping communities recover and rebuild. new details on a blue whale that watched up at limantour beach. the mammal center says the whale died after getting hit by a vessel. blue whales are an endangered species. the mammal center says the

whale's primary threats are vessel strikes and entanglements. go, baby. coup! >> well, a private contractor hired by caltrans could face civil penalties after this video was posted online. it shows someone letting a boulder tumble down that slope at emerald bay in south lake tahoe and laughing as it damages trees in its path. the video was posted to facebook after it happened on highway 89 where the crew was installing a retaining wall. caltrans says it was, quote, extremely disappointed and plans to treat the damaged trees and plant new ones in the coming weeks. new developments out of hawaii where uber and lyft are claiming a victory for consumer choice. the mayor of honolulu has vetoed a bill which would have set limits for what the ride sharing companies can charge during peak demand. supporters wanted to prevent so-called surge pricing rates from getting higher than the, ma

mum set by the city. those who oppose say ride hailing users know the prices up front and can choose whether or not to accept them. an unexpected effect on the drive to get rid of plastic straws. now there's apparently a shortage of paper straws. state lawmakers are considering a law requiring restaurants to provide plastic straws only by request. the indiana company that is the bay area's bartender's preferred provider of paper straws has seen a 5,000% increase in sales and demand over the past three years. hopefully they can ramp up supply or find another provider. >> while we weren't looking, straws became the new plastic bag. it's the evil that everyone wants to eliminate. >> or ten cents if you want a plastic straw. maybe you can do that. did i just say that? >> thanks, mike. >> oops. let's talk about what's going on as far as weather -- any time you can get rid of plastic and

pollution it's a good thing. >> a look at sfo where you can see the cloud cover hanging around. that means we'll have delays. as soon as they let me know, i'll let you know. morning gray, afternoon sunshine, typical this time of year. temperatures average to below average from the inland neighborhoods to san francisco and the coast. mainly cloudy and cool again tonight and a heightened heat risk coming for the extended forecast. let's take a look at the clouds. you can see just like yesterday at noon, still a little bit hanging on some of our coastal valleys in the north bay and also around san francisco and down to the san mateo bridge. they'll be a broken deck of clouds that will pull back to the coast by 4:00. you can see by 7:00 they're starting to make that march back to the east. let's take a look at san francisco today. once we break out in sunshine, we'll mainly stay in the 50s. there's a few areas that could reach the lower to mid 60s. that's the bay side that will see the sunshine first. as far as the east bay goes, we've got temperatures from the

upper 60s in richmond, berkeley and oakland. everybody else in the low to mid 70s. peninsula, we'll see sunshine by noon today. at least north or south of smo, north of there a little cloudiness. millbrae in the 70s. upper 50s along the coast to near 60. for the south bay, temperatures night, close to average until you start to get to morgan hill and gilroy, low to mid 90s there while the rest of the south bay is in the mid to upper 70s. in the north bay, that breeze will hold your temperatures in check at least up until calistoga and cloverdale. one last day of pretty nice temperatures in our east bay valleys, mid 80s to about 90. my accuweather seven-day forecast, check out the temperatures tomorrow and then what really catches your eye friday and saturday. hopefully we can get that heat broken just about everywhere. a lot of things going on sunday. we'll talk more about that coming up. here is alexis. >> i haven't gotten official words yet. it looks like the bay bridge

metering lights are on for the wednesday morning commute. starting to fill in the you're coming from the east bay. that's starting to back up into the maze unless, of course, you're using the car pool lanes this morning. i want to head to the central valley, another typical slow spt at this early hour. down to 10 miles an hour, 11 miles an hour on 205 and 580 approaching the altamont pass. we haven't had any incidents so far today. 42 b.a.r.t. trains in service. no delays. normal service for muni. yesterday a bit of a tough day for capitol corridor. today, normal service and no delays. in san francisco, if you think street construction on van ness avenue is bad now, brace yourself. it's about to get even worse. the city's top transit official says expect to see more street space taken up by construction. this is all part of the van ness improvement project. according to "the examiner," the $316 million project will be entering its second sub phase next month. crews will be conducting underground utility work. it will include re placing

our temperatures a little below average today. low to mid 50s until you get around the bay. some 57-degree temperatures. temperatures pretty much the same as they were yesterday at this time. as we head through my accuweather 12-hour planner. mid 50s at the coast, upper 50s all through out the day. we go from 67 at noon around the bay to 74 at 4:00 and back to 67 at 7:00. 7 7280 and 70. those are your inland temperatures. good morning mike. down to the south bay, 280 and 17. you can see flares up there and some emergency vehicles with their lights flashing on the right. we do have the right lane blocked. that's a vehicle fire, what's left of it anyway. the flames are tapped out. sounds like the person did get out of the vehicle okay. it's not causing any delays. i'll show you exactly where that is on your traffic maps.

we've got all green traveling conditions around there. southbound 280 around highway 17. that's about it for the south bay. you've been quiet. we're ramping up for the bay bridge commute. breaking news we've been following all morning on san francisco. a van slamming into a building. the driver hospitalized. residents there's evacuated. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is at the scene near arguello and clement. amy? >> reporter: hi, jessica. you can see behind me the ran is still here. that's where it came to the stop right in a garage of the building. you can see where the fire department put wood here to embrace the building and keep it from collapsing. the crash happened around 3:30 at clement and arguello in san francisco. police don't know the cause. residents say this woke them up. >> i woke up, going to the bathroom, and heard a big crash

felt the building shape. my roommate woke up, ran to the window to see what was going on. >> reporter: no one else was hurt. police shut out the facility. there are six units in the building. police are asking for anyone who saw the crash to give them a call. they need help piecing this together. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. right now san leandro police are investigating a deadly stabbing that may have started as a bar fight. police arrived at the safeway parking lot late last night on juana avenue to find two men stabbed. one died on the scene, the other in critical condition. officers say four men came out of the nearby sons of liberty bar and got into a fight. investigators say they're looking at surveillance video. now to the ongoing crisis at the border. >> here is the very latest this

morning. the associated press is now reporting babies and other young children forcibly separated from their parents at the u.s./mexico border are being held at so-called tender age shelters. lawyers and other medical providers say the shelters include rooms filled with crying preschool age children. meanwhile president trump met with house republicans last night to chart strategy. here is abc news reporter stephanie ramos. >> -- any in the world. we're going to see if we can fix it. >> sources inside the meeting room tell abc news trump only weighed in for a little bit on immigration, but then he proceeded to talk about poll numbers, democrats, fighter jets and north korea, leaving members uncertain about how he wants them to vote. the president is not reversing his zero-tolerance policy. we're now learning of a 10-year-old mexican girl that was separated from her mother. the little girl has down syndrome and is now in a shelter

alone. here is what trump's former campaign manager corey lewandowski had to say about the girl's situation on fox news. >> i read today about a 10-year-old girl with down syndrome who was taken from her mother and put in a cage. >> wah-wah. >> the youngest migrant children are being held in what's called a tender age shelter. lawyers have described rooms full of crying children. the government plans to open a fourth shelter. stephanie ramos, abc news, washington. >> that wah-wah moment is way too much. hard to believe someone said that. protesters heckled homeland security secretary kirstjen nielsen while dining at a mexican restaurant in washington last night. >> no borders, no walls, sanctuary for all! >> this group describing themselves as socialists posting this video to facebook. the activists said they couldn't stand by and let nielsen eat in

peace while children are being torn away from parents. she eventually left the restaurant. the political cartoonist behind a violent cartoon that criticized president trump's immigration policy is getting some love from the bay area. you may have seen rob rogers' cartoon, depicting a sign of an immigrant family crossing the highway and a silhouetted president trump snatching the child. rogers got fired last week over several cartoons criticizing the president. after that picture was tweeted, rogers also tweeted saying this is how political cartoons should be displayed. a facebook campaign to help reunite undocumented immigrant parents separated from their children has raised more than $8.6 million so far. two of facebook's earlier employees started this on sunday. they oor right here in silicon valley. more than 211,000 people

novato and san francisco, 52. pacifica at about 50 right now. here is a look at the san mateo bridge. you can see it's cloudy. looking westbound towards the peninsula, we'll have a few foggy areas this morning and then sunshine this afternoon away from the coast for most of us. breezy if you're going to be north of the bay bridge. that's where the fastest breezes will be today. if you're on the ferry. here is a look at san francisco, hard to shake the 50s today. look at that. still pretty cloudy around noon. after that we'll see sunshine around the bay side. that could spike into the low to mid 60s while everybody else stays in the 50s. peninsula cloudy until about 10:00. lingering clouds from san mateo northward up until about noon. we'll have sunshine in the afternoon hours and low to mid 70s. for the south bay, cloudy conditions through about 8:00 and then we'll start to see the

>> thank you, mike. a warning for all of us celebrating pride this week into. scott long, a human rights activist who deals with lgbtq issues. someone severely beat him on june 9th adds he was walking home in oakland on 35th avenue in kansas street. the second happened in san francisco. this is tim tate. he believes he was targeted because he is a drag queen. he was leaving the eagle bar in soma at around 10:00 p.m., also on june 9th. he got attacked on bernice street as he was heading home. >> i went down, and i didn't see anything coming, didn't hear anything. it was just out of the blue. and then he just beat the living -- out of me. >> tate, whose drag name is ginger snap was punched, kicked and dragged. san francisco police are treating this as a hate crime. they have surveillance video that will hopefully help them solve the case.
