seven-day forecast. here is alexis. the commute still looking pretty good this morning. we're looking live at the bay bridge toll plaza. yesterday a terrible day trying to get across the bay bridge. we had some construction that went until 5:00, that meant an early start for the bay bridge metering lights. today all that cleared much earlier and the metering lights at 5:20. that's the typical time we see that on a monday through thursday commute. westbound 80 highway 4 to the maze, 22 minutes, looking better, too. a 14-minute drive. southbound 101, san francisco to sf ofrmts. that's in the green at nine minutes. we'll head back to the south bay coming up next. breaking news from the abc 7 live desk. >> breaking news this morning, a van crashing into a building in san francisco. you can see how much damage there is. this is a live look at the scene, at least one person is hurt with life-threatening injuries. they're hospitalized right now. this happened about 2 1/2 hours ago, and you can see there's extensive damage to the

building. the crews are out there at this building on clement street and arguello boulevard trying to shore it up, trying to prevent it from collapsing. residents are evacuated. i want to show you the scene when crews first got there. no word on exactly how this happened. police say there was only one vehicle involved utilities were shot off due to safety concern. amy hollyfield is live on the scene. we'll check in with her at the bottom of the hour. >> the abc 7 news app sent out a push alert shortly after the van crashed into the apartment building in san francisco. you can be the first to know when breaking news happens where you live. download the app for free and make sure to enable push alerts. several bay area mayors are on the same page when it comes to separating families at our border. >> oak lapd mayor libby schaaf calling it ruthless and heartless urging state senators to support the keeping families

together act. san francisco mayor mark farrell is calling for clear, human reunification plans. state senator scott weiner tweeting this just after midnight. let's be clear. contractors that build baby cages and detention centers for immigrant kids shouldn't be allowed to do business with our state. he did not say if he's working on any sort of bill. what about the children in these so-called tender cages. psychologists we've talked to say they're clearly being abused. >> nearly 2,000 immigrant children have been separated from their children and held in fenced cages at a border facility. psychologists say this will leave a lasting impact on many of these children. we're basically traumatizing a whole cohort of children and families that won't go away when the border issues are resolved.

francisco officer who shot and injured a man earlier this month was also involved in a deadly shooting six years ago. >> we'll show you some video. i node to warn you you may find this disturbing. [ gunshots ]. >> investigators say joshua cabillo is the officer who shot a suspect in the back in north beach on june 9th. body cam video shows a man running and tossing a gun before being shot. the officer was also involved in the controversial shooting of derrick gaines at a gas stakes. he claimed the teen was reaching for a gun. gaines did have a gun. it turned out to be inoperable. the d.a. did not file charges. police want to find this man seen on camera taking a puppy in san jose. you can see him. he held his hand up to the puppy before picking up that 6-week old husky-golden retriever mix.

the man left with the dog in an suv mercedes. it's pretty unique. it's black with yellow windshield wipers. the puppy has gray fur and a white tail. if you've seen the man, the dog or the suv, please contact san jose police. right now. maybe they'll start, woulding on getting this van out of here. this happened at arguello and clement in san francisco's richmond district. it was about 3:30 this morning. the driver was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. residents say they could feel the building shake when the van hit. >> there was a lyft driver that stopped, was doing a drop-off over here. that thank goodness for that guy. he was the first one, he dialed 911 and checked on the guy. the guy was awake. we could hear him talking, telling us that he's injured and he's bleeding. >> reporter: no one else was hurt. residents tell me there are six units in this building. they had utilities shut off over a concern for safety. police need help asking why this happened. they're asking for any witnesses to please give them a call. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news.

a tender age shelter. lawyers have described rooms full of crying children. the government plans to open a fourth shelter. stephanie ramos, abc news, washington. protesters heckled homeland security secretary kirstje nielsen last night. >> no borders, no walls, sanctuary for all. >> a group posted this video to facebook. the activists say they couldn't stand by and let her eat in peace while children are being torn from their parents. a spokesperson says she shares activists' concerns about current immigration laws that have created a crisis on our southern border. a facebook campaign to help reunite undocumented immigrant parents separated from their children has raised $9 million. this is more than double from when we checked in yesterday morning, up just about $600,000 since we checked in at 4:30.

facebook's earlier employees started the campaign on sunday. for more information about the immigration debate, you can go to our website, abc7news.com. now developing news in the east bay. san leandro police are investigating a deadly stabbing that may have started as a bar fight. police arrived at the safeway parking lot late last night on juana avenue and found two men stabbed. one died on the scene. the other is in critical condition. officers say four men came out of the nearby sons of liberty bar and got into a fight. it's unclear what started it. investigators say they're looking at surveillance video. san francisco leaders and b.a.r.t. officials scheduled to announce a joint plan -- >> you may remember this video of drug users shooting up inside a station and put pressure on b.a.r.t. to make changes. b.a.r.t. has staff inside elevators that have been used as tail let's in the past. there are so many homeless

individuals in and around the station that outreach teams are being recruited. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. low to mid 50s for most of the south bay until you get to san jose, 57 degrees. same thing at saratoga. 61 at brentwood, the warm spot. a lot like what we dealt with yesterday morning, same thing with the cloud cover and the reason we're having those delays at sfo. if you're driving, the foggy areas are few and far between, closer to the coast, or if you drive up into them like on 24 as you head towards the caldecott. breezy north of the bay bridge if you're on the ferry today. mass transit, cool this morning, warm stops in stations this afternoon. san francisco, cloudy at 8:00. mostly cloudy at 10:00. we'll start to see sunshine break out around noon. we'll go from the mid 50s to the upper 50s during the afternoon hours. peninsula, how about 58 and cloudy this morning. 63 and mostly cloudy at 10:00. we'll start to break out in sunshine by noon, 67. hang out in the 70s in the

afternoon. let's take a look at the south bay where we'll see the sunshine faster, around 10:00. noon full on and 73. upper 70s during the afternoon hours. down to about 66 by 8:00. if i've been listening this morning correctly, and you have a smile on your face, that usually means that the bay bridge toll plaza isn't quite as bad as it was yesterday. >> it definitely is not. yesterday was a tough day. today it really has not been terrible. we did get the metering lights turned on around the typical time. 5:20 this morning. that is looking average. do want to zoom in and take a look at the approaches. yesterday that was really tough. we had some overnight inspections that went until 5:00. that resulted in metering lights on early and a long backup into the maze. today we're seeing a little delay on that approach from emeryville. that's about it. a quick check at drive times, westbound 580 richmond san rafael, eight minutes.

in san francisco if you think street construction on van ness avenue is bad now. the city's top transit official says expect more street space taken up by construction. this is, of course, all part of the van ness improvement project. according to "the examiner," the $316 million project will enter its second sub phase next month. crews will be conducting underground utility work and it will include replaces 22,000 feet of old water mains, installing new street lights and more. expect a rocky road ahead for van ness. fortunately i don't have to drive on van ness that often. whenever i do, this lane is closed. wait, that lane is closed. >> like an obstacle course. >> i'm on that every day. that's how i get to work every morning. >> how do you feel, reggie? >> i don't feel great about it because it keeps getting delayed. they tell me it's going to be great when it's done. >> it will be wonderful when it's done. >> can't wait for that, alexis.

just yesterday two grass fires broke out, but in both cases fire officials say the fires could have been much worse n. san ramon, a small fire swept through the gail ranch neighborhood. this is the same fire in the same open space during the same time of year in a decade. having defensible space, plenty of personnel on hand and the weather conditions did help. >> it was coming so fast. i went to the neighbors and told hem to get in the car and get out. >> usually about the middle of june we add additional fire engines because of the increased fire activity. >> as of monday, cal fire increased firefighting forces to maximum levels statewide. in the east bay, concord police investigating a fatal crash that also hurt three children all under the age of 10. this happened around 6:30 last night on concord boulevard and park side drive. officials say it appears a gray suv t-boned the white car. the three passengers were taken

to children's hospital to get treated. the victim suffered fatal injuries. the search is on for a man who pushed a woman to the ground only to sexually assault her. santa rosa police released these surveillance images. investigators say the attack happened sunday night in the parking lot of an apartment complex on jennings avenue. the victim says the man put his hand up her dress after he pushed her down. when she screamed, that's when the man ran off. a $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction. glide memorial methodist church in san francisco stripped of its pastors. the question now why. >> glide foundation trustees received notice from the bishop who oversees churches in california and nevada that the clergy will be reassigned and not replaced. the church hierarchy declined to comment on why it's being done. glide's president believes the rift is caused by a difference in philosophy and the new bishop trying to exert control.
