you're all i think about. ....the burger, garry. the new fresh beef quarter pounder burgers. now from abc 7, live breaking nudes. and that breaking news is in lake county where a fast moving wildfire has more than doubled forc forcing thousands to evacuate. and tonight tonsheriff is calling the pawnee fire unprecedented. >> lake county sheriff says the flames are spreading at a rate in the summer. >> the 3,000 residents in the spring valley community have been advised to leave the fire as we said has more than doubled in size and is now 7700 acres burned, 12 structures destroyed

and 600 more are threatened. >> because the speeds of the wind are expected to decrease, this is still going to cause a problem for firefighters. >> absolutely. it's still a dynamic situation. we're dealing with brush in the fire area. and the fire is spreading with an alarm rate. >> it's burning towards structures, is that part of the problem here? >> the fire is burning in a pretty remote area, there are structures in the area of the fire. we have crews in place providing defense, there are 600 structures we're considering threatened at this point. >> let's talk about those who have been evacuated. do you have any indication when they'll return back to their homes? >> it's our goal to get people back in their homes as soon as possible, as soon as it's safe. we're taking direct fire approach. we're attacking the fire on the

fire's edge to restore norm si and get people back in their homes. >> you'll have dozers establishing lines and hand crews as well. >> exactly. we'll have bulldozers building containment lines. at night we'll expect the fire to decrease which will enable us to get close to the fire's edge and stop the spread of the fire. >> this fire has broken out so early in the season, captain, tell us what it means for the rest of the summer. does this set some sort of precedent? > it's a reminder for the public to be ready for wildfire. it's what we expect. it happens every summer in california. over the last several weeks we've seen several new fires start across the state of california. we've had more new fires start so far this year as we did last

year to the same point. so to say this is going to be a worse fire season than last fire season, it's really still up in the air. but we are getting the resources we need and crews are coming in through the night. we'll work to contain this one. >> all right, cal fire captain, thank you for joining us and safety to you and your crews out there. >> thank you. >> let's get to center. >> fire, fuelled by winds and the heat. >> typically at night the fires will settle down. last night the fire did not settle down. it increased in size and grew over a thousand acres over the evening. >> reporter: the entire spring valley community is threatened.

a new expanded evacuation alert this afternoon was followed by another asking people to immediately reduce their water usage to conserve water for firefighters, hundreds of them attacking this blaze by air and on the ground. >> i said if you're not going to protect my house, i'm going to protect my house. >> reporter: tracie gatlin watched her house burn down after she claimed her pleas for help were ignored. >> for two and a half hours there were ten cal fire or some sort of fire, i don't know if it was only cal fire but some sort of vehicles on our road that could have been doing something, i was rolling propane tanks down the hill, moving cars, i just needed help and no one would help me. >> reporter: a red cross shelter became a refuge for this family who escaped with their clothes on their back and their cat

penny. >> we've been through this four times and this is the first time i felt like we were in danger because the fire was just on the hill just over from us, like maybe this is the time we lose our house. >> reporter: theirs was spared. 600 other structures are now threatened. we pick up our team coverage tonight with will carr on the front lines of the fire. >> will filed this report just before the sun went down. >> reporter: behind me you can see the wildfire, continuing to eat through the bone dry brush behind me. it's been hot, triple degrees in some part of the areas, and the winds have been erratic. pushing these flames all throughout this community. nearly 600 homes are threatened. behind us fire crews are doing

everything they can to jump on the flames. you hear the helicopter in the distance, see a truck coming by here, they're doing dumps, trying to get these flames out and protect this community. it's going to be a long 24 hours. now cal fire has brought in one of the world's largest fire fighting airline craft to help ground crews. you're looking at a dc 10 wide body jet. >> it used to be a passenger jet and could hold more than 250 people when it did that. let's check in for the latest on theonditions firefighters are facing up there. francis. >> eric, deon, the wind has been decreasing, unfortunately it's still pretty breezy. here are the conditions right now. the temperatures dropped down to 71 degrees and relative humidity has come up to 54%. but the winds still coming at 17 miles per hour and gusts up to

33 miles an hour. overnight the winds will die rapidly as the temperatures lower into the low 60s and that's great news for the firefighters who will get closer to the containment line during the early morning hours because in the afternoon temperatures climb back up again to the low 90s to mid 90s and the winds pick up again to around 15 miles an hour. now this is the latest wildfire to destroy homes and threaten others in lake county. mike mcgur spoke about how tough it's been. >> lake county has been hit hardest of california's other 58 counties. the last four fire seasons, they have lost over 2,000 homes over the last four years and this is the last thing, the last thing that any of us would want to see. >> state senator mckwur called

immigration issues. >> they're cages, and i think all of us will have a different perspective certainly, but this is not the way we treat people who are seeking asylum. border patrol, all of the agents are doing their jobs. but they are a criminal law enforcement agency. and from my view, they have treated some of these children and families as you would treat a criminal. >> reporter: the officer says most people don't know that many undocumented immigrants turn themselves into the guards. >> if they thought we were that bad because their family members have had experiences with us, why would they seek us out? they know we're not bad folks. they know we're here to help them. >> we found a young mother and child at the local bus station. she turned herself in to the border patrol, was detained for three days but did not lose

let a little girl sell some water. >> this woman on the phone with police about an 8-year-old girl she said was loudly selling water for hours. the child's mom confronting the caller. >> she comes out and demands a permit, said if we didn't give it to her she'd call the cops. and she did. >> the lady called the police on me because i didn't have a permit. >> you can hide all you want. the whole world going to see you. >> illegally selling water without a permit. >> this the scene in a residential neighborhood near at&t park on friday. it's now been seen millions of times on instagram. the woman on the phone tells abc news she never spoke to the little girl but said her building security guard tried to get the little girl and her mom to keep the noise down or move. she said she did phone the police but not to report them,

berkeley police arrested a man after officers say he punched a person who helped rescue him from san francisco bay. >> witnesses say he was speeding when his car went off the road and into the water about 7:00 tonight. a group of good samaritans saw what happened and sprang into action to help. >> it catapulted it went far. we sent out our rescue skiff and
