"black panther" won best movie.

and anita baker was honored with a lifetime achievement award. those are some of the top stories we're following on this monday, june 25th. from abc news, this is "world news now." >> good morning to you all. we begin this half hour with president trump facing new pushback over the rights of migrants. >> the president is now suggesting that they should skip the courts and immediately send migrants back where they came from. but civil liberty proponents say that would be unconstitutional. the defense secretary says two military bases will be used to house migrants. tara palmieri from dees. >> reporter: the president intensifying his biggest issue. >> we need people that can help us. we want merit-based immigration system. we need safety at the border.

successfully become the poster child for intolerance in our country. >> the separation of illegal families is the product of the same loopholes that democrats refuse to close. >> reporter: the restaurant owner says i feel the restaurant has certain standards it has to uphold such as honesty and cooperation. she said i'd like you to leave. sarah sanders tweeting her actions say more about her than about me. i always do my best to treat people, including those i disagree with, respectfully and i will continue to do so. there's a vote on a compromise bill on tuesday, but it is unlikely to pass. they are reportly working on a more narrow bill that would eliminate the 20 day cap on stays for children. but even that will have a hard time getting support from democrats. tara paul paul mary, abc news,

the white house. dozens of people are in the hospital after getting sick on the job. the workers first started reporting feeling ill. the building was declared safe. another shift reported later in the evening. that shift fell sick and quickly left the building. a hazmat team is set to conduct another inspection. the black teen shot to death by police will be laid to rest today. it follows a week of protests that culminated in his wake last night. now his parents are speaking out for the first time exclusively to abc news. they say the officer who killed their son needs to be behind bars. here's abc's kenneth moton. >> reporter: hundreds of people lined up to pay their respects to 17-year-old antwon rose, the teen shot and killed by the officer as he ran away from a traffic stop. for the first time, antwon's parents are speaking out.

>> he murdered my son in cold blood. >> reporter: they didn't want to talk about the investigation. the car antwon was riding in was suspected of being involved in a drive-by shooting. two guns were found inside and the teen had an empty gun clip in his pocket. >> i never thought i'd be sitting here. i thought i'd be watching my son graduate from college. >> reporter: i asked antwon's parents if they thought the investigation would be fair. they said they hoped so. the district attorney is expected to release new details about the investigation and shooting. kenneth moton, abc news. homestead, pennsylvania. and a dozen large wildfires are burning in the west. most of them out of control. three of those fires are in central oregon with the largest, the boxcar fire, at 92,000 acres. it's about 50% contained, still producing huge amounts of smoke. and in northern california, the

pawnee fire. thousands have been told to evacuate as that wildfire season begins. >> i'm will carr, in lake county, california. behind me, you can see this wildfire that is continuing to eat through that bone-dry brush behind me. they basically have had perfect conditions for a wildfire. hot, triple degrees in some parts of this area. the winds have been erratic. nearly 600 homes are threatened right now. we know a dozen or so structures have already burned. behind us, fire crews doing everything they can to try to jump on the fire. you probably hear the helicopter in the distance. you see a truck coming by right here. they're doing dumps. they're trying to get these flames out and protect this community. it's going to be a long 24 hours. in lake county, will carr, abc news. >> fire season is just starting

and the forecasts right now don't look like they're going to help. >> paul williams has the details. >> to be honest, this is the time of the year when we have this problem with the dry conditions in the southwest, four corners region staying desperately dry. and i do mean desperately. hot air continuing throughout southern california, nevada and arizona. the heat will creep all the way up to the northwest part of the country with the jet stream being bench pressed. we'll have hot conditions. by midweek, more in the way of heat, more dryness. more problems with fires. kendis, diane? >> that's not what we need. overseas, turkey's president recep erdogan is declaring victory. he received more than 52% of the vote. with this win, erdogan will gain sweeping new powers. critics say it's a bold power grab that amounts to a dictatorship.

we're lookin we're looking at a fire that destroyed 11 vehicles at a north carolina theme park. investigators think some mechanical issue sparked the flames. the high winds helped the fire spread. luckily no one was hurt. there's a deadly mystery under investigation outside los angeles. >> a pharmaceutical executive was shot dead inside malibu state park while camping with his young daughters. he died from a bullet wound to the torso. his daughters, just 2 and 4, were not hurt. and two people are dead after a small plane crash in detroit.

the small plane burst into flames upon impact. there was a third person on board, a 17-year-old male. he's now in critical condition. the cessna may have hit a tree as it was approaching a small airport on the city's east side. the pilot had reported problems with the landing gear and low fuel. the flight originated in arkansas. that sparked growing outrage on social media. >> a woman was caught on video calling police about an 8-year-old girl who was selling bottled water. >> this woman don't want a little girl to sell water. she calling police on an 8 year old little girl. >> reporter: this woman calling police about a little girl she says was loudly selling water outside her apartment for hours. the child's mom confronting the caller.

things down with flash flooding along 70, 80, 55 with damaging floods and rain. the southwest, totally different side of this thing. heat, dry, plenty of heat throughout the southwest. throughout the northwest, another wave of heat. and even for the southeast for monday before the rain kicks in for them. then more blistering heat for the desert southwest by midweek as well. a hazmat emergency in salem, massachusetts. at least 20 people are in the hospital after getting sick on the job. authorities were called to the scene after a chlorine leak. they said the building was safe, but then another shift of employees fell ill. emergency responders describe a mass hysteria as workers rushed to leave the building. the building is now closed and slated for another inspection today. president trump is coming under fire for suggesting that people who enter the country illegally should not be allowed due process.

demanding answers on the immigrant children separated from their families. the trump administration should provide evidence for each and every child who has been reunited. >> reporter: these are the images of the young children being transported from a processing center in mcallen, texas. massachusetts senator elizabeth warren touring the facility. >> it's a disturbing picture. there are children by themselves. i saw a 6 month old baby. >> reporter: 32 released to the custody of a shelter in el paso. dhs saying more than 500 children are already back with their parents. many who reach the border but are turned away end up like this waiting for another opportunity to cross. we met this man. he said he's willing to risk it all.

>> i want to take my family to u.s. i cannot go back to honduras, i cannot. if we go back to honduras, they will kill my family. >> reporter: and people we spoke with at that shelter said they are determined and will stop at nothing to get into the u.s. one man who's been in reynosa will try to cross again next week. marcus moore, abc news, mcallen, texas. and to san diego now where two police officers there are recovering after responding to what turned into a deadly shootout. both were shot near san diego state university. a 911 call complained of someone yelling and objects being thrown inside an apartment. smoke was coming from the unit. and officers and firefighters knocked to try to get inside. detectives say that's when they were ambushed. >> obviously some concerns about a fire inside the apartment. so the officers made a decision to open the door.

upon opening the door, they were met by gunfire. >> one of the officers is in serious but stable condition. both are expected to recover. the firefighter was not injured. the suspect died during the shootout though police aren't sure how. first lady melania trump was a surprise guest at a conference against destructive decisions in northern virginia. she said she was inspired by their organization and their conference. the first lady says their mission matches the goals of her "be best" initiative. >> you have the power to be the positive force in so many people's lives. show respect to one another. treat your community like your family. and look out for one another. >> first lady received a standing ovation after those remarks. s.a.d.d. was once known as students against drunk driving.

pups with mugs only their mothers could love. >> the world's ugliest dog contest brought some not so pretty faces to petaluma, california. 15 competed for the prize. >> this year's winner is an english bulldog. >> look at that tongue! >> named zaza. her underbite and wrinkled face helped her beat out the rest of the pack. >> i think zaza's tongue may have helped as well. >> does that thing ever go in? >> no. that's it. that's zaza. she was just relaxed. and a lot of these dogs are rescued from shelters or puppy mills. the whole point is to encourage adoption. coming up, the shark warnings going up from coast-to-coast. see where beachgoers are told to look out.

two fishermen are credited with rescuing a hot air balloon pilot. it happened during a hot air balloon festival. they rushed into action when they saw the pilot in trouble. >> when he hit the wires, there was a big flash and an explosion. >> but he was kind of flailing away, and yelling. and then that's when he broke free. he hit the water maybe like about 20 to 30 yards from the shore. >> at one point, the balloon's basket was on fire. the pilot is okay. the faa is looking into the cause. two people are dead after a small plane crash in detroit.

this video from last year also from monterey bay shows a great white knocking this man off his kayak, taking a bite out of it, thrashing around in the water before the man was rescued. just last month, a 10 year old boy bitten, swimming in waist-deep water in south carolina. >> it was a total shock. >> reporter: experts say shark attacks are rare. t warnings should be taken seriously. >> they are informed. there are sharks here. they can make a decision whether to go in or not. >> reporter: some tips, avoid swimming at dawn and dusk. don't wear anything shiny that a shark could confuse for a fish. if you do see a shark while you're in the water, move away calmly and slowly, because any quick movements could draw a shark's attention. marci gonzalez, abc news, santa monica, california. >> i would be bait. flailing.
