mockery. the ongoing battle at the border. >> we need people that can help us. we want a merit-based immigration system. we need safety at the border and we need the wall. the wall is going to happen. >> reporter: the crisis, more than 2,000 kids taken from their parents in just over a month. [ chanting ] spread out across the country unclear how they'll be reconnected. the president blaming democrats and suggesting undocumented immigrants should be immediately deported and denied due process tweeting, we cannot allow all of these people to invade our country. when somebody comes in, we must immediately with no judges or court cases bring them back from where they came. >> we need a wall. we need border security. >> reporter: the department of homeland security now saying more than 500 children are already back with their parents but still over 2,000 remain separated. >> the trump administration should provide evidence for each and every child who has been

reunited. >> reporter: and as the immigration debate reaches a flash point, the pentagon is now agreeing to build temporary migrant camps on two unspecified u.s. military bases, and in washington, lawmakers are facing an uphill battle as they're set to vote on immigration reform. >> congress has to fix this, and what is bothersome is the president's rhetoric about the democrats and their unwillingness to have any type of border security or control. >> reporter: and police in brownsville, texas, confirmed a 15-year-old teen is missing from a children's immigration facility there. a spokesperson for the facility says if a child tries to leave or run away, as is suspected in this case, they don't try to stop them because that facility is not a detention center. diane and kendis. >> that's janai norman live from washington. thanks, janai. and porn star stormy daniels was scheduled to meet today with federal prosecutors in new york but her attorney now says the interview has been called off. abc news had confirmed that the

meeting involved the investigation to president trump's longtime lawyer michael cohen who paid daniels to keep quiet about an alleged affair with the president. daniels' attorney michael avenatti tweeted last night that prosecutors told him they were canceling the meeting because the press found out about it. the congresswoman maxine waters is facing growing backlash for urging americans to directly confront members of the trump administration when they're out in public over his stance on immigration. now, the plea by waters came after the press secretary was asked to leave a restaurant by the owner because of her defense of the president. and other trump aides were recently heckled while eating out. utah senator orrin hatch is among the republicans blasting waters' comments tweeting, this is a very bad, dangerous idea. debate and even disagreement is critical to the american experiment, but when we stop seeing the humanity in the other side, we all lose. a former adviser to president trump has apologized for using a racially charged term in a heated debate with a

and they say they want their son back and their killer punished. >> i miss my baby. >> reporter: this morning the words of the grieving mother and father of antwon rose. >> every time you turn on the tv, there's a young african-american male shot by the police. and you say, i feel sorry for them. the them is me. the them is him. >> reporter: the 17-year-old shot and killed by east pittsburgh police officer michael rosfeld last week as he ran away. >> he murdered my son in cold blood. >> reporter: the car antwon was riding in was suspected of being involved in a drive-by shooting. investigators say two guns were discovered inside, and the teen had an empty gun clip. >> the ones that say antwon shouldn't have been in the car. >> when i leave here and we leave here, we are going to the wake of our 17-year-old son. [ chanting ] >> reporter: antwon's death has sparked several nights of widespread protest after video surfaced of the shooting. his parents believe that video is key to bringing justice for their son.

>> by the grace of god there is a video, because if there wasn't, this conversation would be totally different. >> officer rosfeld is said to be cooperating with the investigation. we've not heard back from his attorney as the parents of antwon rose prepare to lay their son to rest. a wildfire has forced more than 3,000 people to evacuate their northern california neighborhood. the pawnee wildfire is threatening their homes just north of santa rosa. the fire has already destroyed 12 houses and is 0% contained. an official says the dry and windy conditions have been fueling that fire, and now let's get a look at your forecast for this monday morning. good morning. storms will continue throughout portions of the dakotas, fargo into minnesota, all of iowa and all of missouri going into illinois. now, we are expecting for the warm weather to kick off for us in the southwest. plenty of heat in the southwest as well as the northwest, and

tristan beaudette was shot to death in malibu state park. detectives say he may have been shot while inside the tent he was sharing with his 2-year-old and 4-year-old. the girls were not hurt but now others are coming forward saying they were shot while at the same park. investigators say there's no evidence connecting previous shootings at the campsite. dozens of people are hospitalized after a chlorine leak at an east cigarette plant outside boston. hazmat crews worked into the night at the thermal circuits plant in salem. the initial call came in yesterday afternoon. crews had to come back a few hours later, though, when workers again suffered breathing problems. some nearly lost consciousness. well, facebook says it wants to help you with your time management. reports say the company is testing a feature that tells people how long they use the social media site for. a picture of the feature on the app shows how many minutes you have spent on facebook over the last week. no word if or when it'll be available. coming up, why the president

several houses. residents were able to break a window with an ax and get one of the passengers out. the plane was on its way from arkansas to detroit's general aviation airport. and a hot air balloon pilot has two fishermen to thank for rescuing him from a lake. his balloon crashed through power lines in southern michigan during a festival. at one point the basket even caught fire, but the fishermen knew they had to move quickly and did. >> when he hit the wires, there was a big flash and an explosion. his basket and his balloon were on fire. >> but he was kind of flailing away and yelling, and then that's when he broke free. he hit the water maybe like about 20 to 30 yards from the shore. >> reporter: the pilot is okay. the faa is now looking into the cause of the crash. well, american tennis officials are trying to head off any controversy over women's seedings at the upcoming u.s. open. their effort stems from the reaction to the low ranking serena williams received at the french open.
