>> announcer: now from abc 7, live breaking news. and that breaking news is a major decision by a federal judge in california that will impact families separated at the u.s.-mexico border. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm ama daetz. >> and i'm dan ashley. the ruling orders the federal government reunite families separated at the border quickly. >> yes, a federal judge in san diego ordered the trump administration to stop taking children from their parents. >> the court orders requires children under the age of 5 be reunited with their families within 14 days, two weeks. children age 5 and older must be back with their families within 30 days. >> the order also requires officials provide parents contact with their children by phone within ten days of separation. the aclu filed this lawsuit. in tonight, where people protested a plan to create an immigrant camp at the former naval weapons

station. concord's city council discussed the federal government's proposal to create a tent city there for 47,000 migrants as they wait for a court hearing. people opposed to the camp demanded city council take action against it. >> we want to urge you, our city leaders, to condemn this internment camp, this plan, all of these camps. they are immoral, despicable, un-american, and evil. >> the city council says it will use the public's input as part of its response as the city creates a plan of action. meantime, a local restaurant is being inadvertently caught up in the immigration debate. why? its name. >> yes, it's similar to one that refused service to president trump's press secretary sarah sanders. abc 7 news reporter kate lars zen live at a napa restaurant that would like to clear its name. kate. >> reporter: ama, dan, there are independent red hen restaurants all over the world just like this one here in napa. and a lot of them are receiving a lot of unwanted attention. so much so that the owner here

says business was down 30% over the weekend. margaritas, mexican food, and some high visibility real estate right along highway 29 in napa. yet owner norm sawicki says customers are mistaking his red hen for being affiliated with this red hen in lexington, virginia. >> we got hundreds and hundreds of phone calls saying how nasty we were. >> reporter: norm says after the owner of lexington's red hen asked president trump's press secretary sarah huckabee sanders to leave her restaurant friday night, a barrage of insults ensued. yelp even posted an alert saying they were cleaning out the reviews on norm's restaurant page which came from both sides of the political aisle. >> i thought it was very weird. i mean, we're not political here. you know? we're open to everybody. and unless you're disorderly, i want you as a customer. >> this morning i actually googled it because if it had been part of the same company we

wouldn't have come here for dinner. >> reporter: jim alexander a regular at napa's red hen bar and grill and was pleased to learn the restaurant is independent of the lexington red hen. >> we're republicans. when you get to see the people who run our country you respect them. >> what do you think about people disrespect a business owner? >> i think that's wrong. by the same toiken i think it's wrong for a business owner to disrespect the customers. >> reporter: now, norm hasn't had the time to run the numbers from today, but he did feel like business was bouncing back and that does make sense because i spoke to a number of customers who came by the restaurant tonight specifically to support norm and napa's red hen. live in napa i'm kate larsen, abc 7 news. >> all right, kate, thank you so much. and just days after being asked to leave that virginia red hen, tonight we've learned sarah sanders is getting secret service protection. the secret service said it doesn't comment on its security details for safety reasons. but it comes just days after the incident at the lexington

restaurant snowballed online. well, now to the historic court ruling and a major victory for president trump. today the supreme court upheld his latest travel ban in a narrow decision. abc 7's amanda del castillo is live at stephens creek in winchester where hundreds spent their afternoon rallying against this ruling. amanda. >> reporter: and dan, that vote was 5-4 with the majority agreeing that president donald trump has the power to restrict access into the united states from seven different countries, all in the name of national security. >> i'm surprised that it's 1942 all over again. >> reporter: another time the supreme court ruled in favor of a president's national security argument. only back then the decision led to japanese-american internment during world war ii. >> i think what's lost here is the logic and reason behind whether this will make us any safer. >> reporter: in tuesday's 5-4

vote justics decided president trump has the authority to make national security judgment when it comes to immigration. banning travelers to the u.s. from several majority muslim countries including iran, somalia, libya, north korea, syria, venezuela, and yemen. >> i spoke to my parents this morning. they were devastated that they can't come and visit anymore. >> reporter: president trump on tuesday. >> the supreme court ruling was a tremendous victory for our country. >> reporter: one mr. trump says should be tough, safe, and secure. the conservative majority of justices taking his side in a major ruling, supporting his presidential power. >> the muslim ban has got to go. >> reporter: rallygoers in the south bay say they aren't surprised. instead they're focused on overcoming what they call the

he was seen driving erratically. there was a short chase and that's when he ran the car into a bedroom on elgin street. the man inside the room was not hurt but the driver did have to be extricated and taken to the hospital. the red cross is now on scene to help the residents while building inspectors check out the damage. a pair of hikers stranded on rocks in a remote area of robert louis stevenson state park in the napa valley had to be rescued by helicopter last night. the chp released this video of a man and woman being hoisted, as you can see, to safety. neither of them was hurt, we're glad to tell you. public safety officials want to remind all of us to stay on marked trails and if you get

lost stay in place and call for help. and we have new details on the woman who appeared to call police on a young girl selling water near at&t park. she has resigned as ceo of her company. treatwell health sells cannabis products for pets and humans. the company issued a statement today saying alison ettel resigned in the best interests of the company's patients. ettel has said she was pretending to call police on the girl because of the noise. well, tonight there is a new president of the san francisco board of supervisors. supervisors selected malia cohen to replace london breed, who was elected mayor. cohen represents the bayview neighborhood. she's also running for a seat on the state board of equalization in november. the mountain view city council voted unanimously to add a controversial head tax on businesses to the november ballot. the tax would charge companies with 50 or more employees to pay per employee on a sliding scale. google, the city's largest employer, with 23,000 employees, is estimated to pay $3.3 million
