money coming from google. here is the video from last night as members of the mountain view city council voted to place the head tax measure on the november ballot. it would allow the city to tax companies between $9 and $149 per employee depending on the size of the business. most of the money would go toward transit projects, but 10% wuld be set aside for affordable housing and to help support the homeless. neighboring cities such as san jose, sunnyvale and redwood city already have a similar head tax in place. but this particular proposal hasn't been without controversy. the silicon valley leadership group as well as the local chamber of commerce have already spoken out against the proposal. but the mayor of mountain view says it's a fair plan that will not only benefit residents but help those who commute into the city for work on a daily basis. now back here live, if voters approve the tax this november, it would be phased in over two years starting in 2020.

we or live in mountain view this morning, chris nguyen, abc 7 news. >> chris, thank you. it's 6:02 now. immigrant children and parents separated at the border are expected to be reunited in the next 30 days. >> that's a new order from a federal judge in san diego. the legal order forces the federal government to stop most family separations at the border. under this order, children under 5k have to be reunited with their families within two weeks. kids 5 and older have to be back wth their parents within 30 days. it also requires officials to provide parents phone contact with their children within ten days of separation. this comes after a lawsuit the aclu filed. today congress is expected to vote on a bill that would ban the separation of migrant children frommer that parents. the measure is ex-pengted to fail. u.s. customs and border patrol released this video yesterday. the agency says it shows border patrol agents encountering 57 people crossing the border from mexico into the u.s. near lukeville, arizona. headed marin county

fair this weekend? members of the marin association of public employees plan to picket at the fair starting saturday. they'll stage a strike sunday through tuesday. the labor union and the county are struggling to reach an agreement on several issues that includes wages and retirement benefits. smoem county sheriff's deputies have arrested two suspects. take a look. 23-year-old ashley easy of antioch was detained shortly after shoplifting on sunday. during the investigation deputies discovered this. more than 400 items worth about $9,500 taken from stores in napa and contra costa county. california voters will decide if paint companies should pay all of the cost of cleaning up lead paint or if taxpayers should chip in. an initiative limiting the liability of lead paint companies have enough signatures

we have a serious accident at westbound 24 and broadway. coming out of the caldecott tunnel, only one lane getting by. sky 7 is above the accident right now. we're looking at a pretty significant backup to and through orinda. because for a time we had all lanes blocked. it's an overturn, and as i mentioned, very serious injuries involved here as well. emergency crews have gotten on scene.

control technology to the test as a record number of people are set to hit the roads for the fourth of july. this tool could cut down so-called phantom traffic jams. that's when traffic seems to jam up for no apparent reason. ford is going to put 36 vehicles on the track with adaptive cruise control which keeps the distance between your vehicle and the one in front. look what happens when there is a slowdown. the vehicles on top without cruise start bunching up. those who are using cruise keep the gap, smoothing out the slowdown. it's really an unexpected benefit for ford engineers who say they actually designed the adaptive cruise for driver comfort. >> it's not something when we were designing it that we intended to do. it's something to see the effect that the system can have. >> according to ford, every car on the road doesn't have to come equipped with cruz control to make a difference. even if it's just a few of the cars, you'll see cars begin to

the breezes keep our temperatures in check. at the same time we're in the 50s at the coast, 50s and 60s at 7:00. still have hundreds on the way. i'll show you that coming up. from the live desk, firefighters in lake coun making progress battling the pawnee fire. it's now 17% contained. the fire grew slightly yesterday to 13,000 acres. 2,700 firefighters are battling the flames with more crews en route. at least 22 structures have been destroyed. about half of those are homes. 600 remain threatened. that has neighbors nervous. >> you can't sleep. you're scared to go into town because you don't know if you're ever going to get back in the summertime. >> i love the country. it's hard year after year. you can only take so many years of this where you finally say, enough. fires in lake county forced residents to leave their homes for evacuation centers during each of the past four years. expanded evacuation orders are in effect for the entire spring valley area.

the sheriff's office is warning wilbur springs, bear valley ande hecear lake county with a population of 65,000 people experienced a big wildfire last october. 162 buildings were damaged or destroyed then. then in 2016 300 structures lost in the clayton wildfire. a year before that in 2015, four people died. 2,000 buildings were destroyed. two other wildfires tore through lake county. michael finney and the 7 on your side team will be in lake county to help fire victims. they'll be in moose lodge in clearlake oaks from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. undocumented immigrants could come to the east bay. tens of thousands could be housed in the form are concord naval weapons building. >> last night protesters stepped up to voice their concerns.

scale the fence, believe me, they'll be even too happy to have you arrested and separated from your children, if they would like to see that. >> later today the house is set to vote on an immigration bill. gop leaders do not expect it to pass. this morning a san lorenzo man who drove his car into the home he lives in is getting psychiatric evaluation. the alameda county sheriff's office says the man appears to have suffered a mental health crisis and was seen drivinger rattly on east 14th last night. there was a short low-speed chase. that's when he sped up and rammed his car into a bedroom on the home of 'em engine street. the man inside the home wasn't hurt. investigators don't know if he's a family member. the driver had to be extricated and was taken to the hospital. the house itself appears to be structurally safe. the fremont police department is looking for a man they say broke into a 'em who and exposed himself.

police say he entered a home near stevenson boulevard and omar street. a woman in the house woke up to find him naked in her bedroom. she screamed and he ran away. 6:37 now. the san francisco board of supervisors has a new president. supervisors voted unanimously to elect malia cohen who will replace london breed who was elected mayor. she terms out of office in january and is running for a seat on the state board of equalization in november. >> san francisco voters will decide whether to spend $over $400 million on the embarcadero rebuild parts of the wall, het tomorrow fit wharves and piers and possibly redesign public areas. the governor's salary will increase to $202 making the

the u.s. and russia are talking this morning. national security adviser john bolton is in moscow to meet with the russian foreign men center, part of an effort to plan a summit between president trump and russian president vladimir putin. the kremlin says it wants to discuss what it calls a sad state of u.s.-russia relations. according to an official, if the summit happens, it will likely take place next month after the president attends a nato summit. san francisco-based real estate company will pay $30 million for the hayes mansion. the city bought it in the 1990s and turned it into a resort hotel. major renovations put the property into debt. the sale will let the city pay off. there will soon be a new park where you can see a sprawling group of redwoods.
