let's take a look at what's going on up around the pawnee fire. as we talked about yesterday the winds would crank up during the evening and hang on during the overnight hours. we're gusting to about 20 out of the west/northwest. surface gusts around 10 to 20 through about 9:00 this evening. the heat is coming. so actually conditions getting worse. alexis? >> hate to hear that, mike. i do have an update on road closures surrounding the fire coming up in a few. we're looking at the bay bridge toll plaza starting to fill in a bit here. of course no metering lights yet. that usually happens around 5:20. a stackup in the cash lanes, i actually drove through here myself about an hour ago. we did have some work on a couple of the toll booths, too. no major delays yet. a six-minute drive, westbound 24, walnut week. westbound 580 tracy to dublin bouncing back from earlier road work up to 49 minutes in the yellow.

lynda lopez, abc news, new york. first lady melania trump is back to the border to visit a center. meanwhile we've learned homeland security will not be using an old air force base in concord to house detained my grant families. they need to find housing for 12,000 families. there are two bases in texas, but more facilities will be needed. a federal judge has ordered the trump administration to reunite migrant children with their parents within 30 days. officials will be testing the first phase of a new freeway security network. chp, cal transand district attorney will be calibrating technology along highway 4. controlled, live fire exercises will be conducted between 9:00 p.m. tonight and 4:00 a.m. tomorrow. the second phase of the installation of the shotspotter will be completed next month.

the final phase is the implementation of a full camera system in august. san francisco is a step closer to hiring hundreds more police officers. according to "the examiner" the budget committee has approved $21 million for three police academy classes. the goal is to add 250 more officers to the force over the next four years. they wanted to address the cause of crime. it says there's no justification for new hires. b.a.r.t. stations along market street in san francisco are about to get extra protection from the elements. the b.a.r.t. board is expected to approve building canopies around all entrances to powell, montgomery, embarcadero and civic center stations. b.a.r.t. is building coverings at this entrance and another one at the civic center station. let's take a look at what's

east bay valley, 61. 75 at noon and low 80s from 2:00 to 6:00 and lastly the peninsula, 58 this morning. a few clouds and sunshine by 10:00. temperature there in the mid-60s all the way through 6:00 and we'll drop down into the low 60s. welcome back. thank you so much. yeah, good to be back. pretty pleasant temperatures. so far we're looking okay for the morning commute as well. we don't have any major blocking issues at the moment. i do want to head up to the pawnee fire area and talk about the current road closures. these are updated every day around 7:00 p.m. not many changes here. all at highway 20. so basically everything north of i-20 heading to the fire area is where you're not going to have the access so you don't want to be there and get in the way of the response crews. slowly starting to fill in.

there's a look at the forecast for the entire state today. kind of sticks out there in palm springs at 107. on the other side of the mountains, 71, san diego. afternoon sunshine. 77 in l.a. 89, sacramento. low to mid-90s the rest of the central valley. sunshine along the coast but breezy and temperatures in the low to mid-60s. yosemite about 88. tahoe one of the coolest days going forward is today and tomorrow. breezy conditions will keep you in the mid to upper 70s and then low to mid-80s saturday, sunday and monday. natasha? mike, thank you. a new grand jury reports operating with more schools than it can afford. our media partner "the east bay times" reports the years long budget crisis was made worse by in the last school year. the grand jury says the district has been on average $20 million to $30 million in debt for the last 15 years and that's due to overspending on hiring and programs.

the school district is operating with twice as many schools as it should be. a teenager injured when a tree fell on his tent at a san mateo county mark has settled his case for $47.5 million. zachary roe was camping with his family when it happened in 2012. he lost his right leg and part of his pelvis. san mateo county and a contractor hired to inspect trees at the camp site will pay $30 million of the settlement. pg&e will pay the remaining $17 million. roe sued for failing to maintain trees around power lines in the area. cannabis shops are holding fire sales this week. dispensaries slashing prices ahead of a july 1st deadline. what'sriown p ste of destroying old product, they're selling it at a

a new study came out from the american council for energy efficient economy. they not only ranked states on how energy efficient they are and their policies are, but they also do countries. and look who's number one. germany and italy. look who's number ten, canada and the usa. it looks like we still have some work to do to become more energy efficient. this weekend san francisco is hoping to tackle gun violence
