guard and one who found perry's body. >> there was no dna at the time of the murder, of course, but then there had been enhanceme m in capabilities so we continued to submit evidence to the crime lab and came from an item of her clothing. >> reporter: authorities say crawford was always a suspect but never enough evidence to charge him. the sheriff's office said it's not found any evidence sunlighting perry and crawford knew each other. new this morning, san francisco police investigate a suspicious death in the castro. they were called to 18th and castro streets before 1:00 this morning. officers found a man on the ground unresponsive and pronounced dead later at a nearby hospital. the cause of death is unknown. new this morning, a beach known for its beauty and all night raves is getting a new life. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live with the details, matt? >> reporter: hi, alexis, this is

my view, a beautiful spot along the coast here. the peninsula open space trust purchased 58 acres of land next to the creek beach right here, just minutes ago, a press conference with state senators and assembly protempt and mark burrman are touring the beach. the funds will go to create the beach county park, a trail, parking, restrooms, a ranger, and restoration at a beach known for all-night parties and no facilities to accommodate people. there's a public ride away to martin's beach. a millionaire bought 89 acres of coastline a decade ago and blocked public access to martin's beach. he kept the gate closed to a private road used for beach access. the state is now funding the possibility down the line that the road will be taken over using imminent domain. >> we also made progress in this

11:00 tomorrow evening, that's when the fire danger is the highest. the fire burned 13,700 a h not . that's good. they lifted more evacuation orders as flames move away. the pawnee fire destroyed so far 22 structures, some of them, up fortunately, homes. >> okay, thank you, mike. happens today, the case of oakland's deadly ghost ship fire back in court. derek and max harris are charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter from the december 2016 warehouse fire. if convicted, they each face up to 39 years in state prison. the attorney says a plea bargain is at least a possibility ahead of a jury trial set to begin july 16th. we reported they rejected the offer from the attorney's office of 18 years in prison. settlement talks are set to continue today. napa says a a 9-year-old boy

was hurt when the clothes caught fire in a science experiment at summer camp. the city says it hired the week long chemistry camp, but there was an accident in a planned project. the boy was taken to the hospital and then transferred by helicopter to uc davis burn center where he's being treated. the fire department is investigating what led up to the accident. well, if you were traveling this weekend, this holiday weekend, like right here out of sfo, you will not be alone, and consider this your heads up. tsa warns today may be the busiest travel day ever. a lot of people are planning to take an extended 4th of july holiday because it falls in the middle of the week. according to bloomberg, 2.6 million people expected to fly today and 5.4 million are expected to travel this weekend. that's almost 300,000 more than last year's all-time high. well, today is the day toys "r" us is officially closing, and the deep discounts you can

community. the department runs a lot of programs for children at different facilities. >> reporter: his nonprofit gave the city a large grant. >> the grant received from san francisco for sports and recreation was $864,000, and we anticipate resurfacing 20 tennis courts with the grant. >> reporter: money came from a feud in 2016 with a developer of a private tennis club. hundreds of people signed a petition to prevent the private club from closing, and after the public attention, developers had a change of heart. >> and they agreed to rebuild our tennis club at the current site with 12 indoor courts, but because we lost 12 outdoor courts there today, they agreed to channel money into public facilities to restore tennis courts so that's where the money came from. >> reporter: there are 146 tennis courts in all of san francisco. so far, they've already done more than 10%. the next locations planned are in silver terrace.
