contain it. to halt the eastward progress. >> all right, steve thank you so much for calling in and sharing the latest information with us. regarding the fire fighting efforts on this two alarm vegetation fire burning in concord. >> it's sending smoke all over the bay area. here is a live picture from the walnut creek camera near the 680 highway. you can see the haze as a result of the fire spreading out across the landscape. and of course the smoke rising directly from the fire zone into the sky. >> people can see from farther away as well. a live look from the smoke from the camera seen from the east bay hills. and this is looking east towards mount diablo. and you can see the haze that dan was talking about and the smoke still rising as a result of the flames. >> but as you heard steve hill say, they think -- they think they'll cut it off and not jump over to crystal ranch road. a lot of houses up in that area

and in that neighborhood. good evening i'm dan ashley. >> i'm kristen sze thank you for joining us. right now we we want want to bring you experience christian he has been keeping an eye on the conditions in the area of the fire. it's not bad in the area of the fire but hot and dry. it's 92 degrees relative humidity low. 22%. now there have been occasional gusts over 10-mile-per-hour but the steady wind has been out of the southwest at 4-mile-per-hour. we don't expect much help from the weather conditions until after sunset when it gets cooler and the humidity rises. as you may be aware we have a red flag warning for lake and solinen o counties until 5:00 a.m. sunday. the other areas in red, mends orr county will be under red flag warning from 11:00 p.m. this evening until 11:00 p.m. tomorrow. much of the bay area is still dealing with high fire concerns i'll give you a look at the weekend forecast and the week ahead in a few minutes dan and kristen. >> thank you. now another fire concern, of course the holiday is coming.

my mom i'm not so sure. i mean, she is 88 years old. and she struggles with the why, i think. and i said, you know, mom, i don't think we're ever going to know the why. >> deputies also admit they may never know why someone chose to kill perry. big developments today in elbowed where there is a possible plea deal in the deadly ghost ship fire. the plea deal offered to derick almena and max harris would call for both men to plead no contest to 36 counts ever involuntary manslaughter with time served, credit both could be released from custody in two, maybe three years. it's thought the plea deals will spare families of the victims the emotional distress of a trial. some friends of the victims say they are upset saying prosecutors should pursue a harsher sentence against the defendants. no deal has been reached today. both almena and harris are due back in court tuesday afternoon. shifting gears now, cable and internet giant comcast is

trying to fix a nationwide outage to services. the company described the outage at widespread but hasn't defined by numbers. it impacts some of the internet abvideo and voice customers. in a tweet comcast linked the outage to unrelated fiber cuts to the network back bone providers. the philadelphia based company didn't offer more information but said it was working to get services restored as soon as possible. let's give you a live look at the golden gate bridge tonight. starting sunday the drivers will have to pay a little more to get into the city. tolerates go up 25 cents across the board. it will be $8 if you don't have fast track. $7 with fast track. it's the last mike in a 5-year plan initiated in 2014. a voter approved measure to raise the bridge tolls that passed did not include the golden gate bridge. ferry commuters will have to pay more. the san francisco bay ferry will increase fares by 3% sunday.

air tanker dropping fire retardant. >> it's upgraded to a farah alarm fire. 150 acres have burned. and there are immediate evacuations near mots o drive at crystal ranch drive. dan, i know you have friends in that area. so you've been telling me how many homes there. it's a very concentrated area with neighborhoods really right up to the areas charred. >> that's right. and it's a relatively new subdivision. they are still building i think out there. the last 10 or 12 years the area popped up, the crystal ranch area. but the area near cowl, the old town of cowl used to be a smoke stack there, no longer there. but the area has homes that have been there some time. as you can see the fire has burned in the lime ridge area in the open space but hasn't reached thankfully the homes surrounding it. >> and we do have a couple of comments emails from viewers, one mentioning how they are not seeing fire fighters protecting their homes immediately away

no containment at this point in time. >> can you tell -- sorry. gadi. >> we are currently working with calfire. calfire has aircraft on-site for us as well as contra costa sheriffs department with the helicopter. doing water drops. we are gaining ground on it. but we don't have containment at this time. >> can you talk a little about your fire fighting strategy, containment strategy, keeping the flames away from homes? what will people see in the next few hours do you expect? >> they'll see a lot of fire engines around the houses that have been evacuated. there is a lot of fire engines here, making sure that the -- the fire doesn't spread to you know other parts of the road -- the country here. a lot -- a lot of personnel on scene making sure the fire doesn't get into the homes. >> and, ryan, let's talk a little bit more if you don't mind about the issue of containment as we look from

stooif hd there are some flames but it looks like some areas are no longer spreading. how do you define kaenltment. >> we wait for the update on the containment actually is. when a flame is basically out and we have control line around the fires, we call that part contained. but it's -- it's sketchy to say right now that we have actually any containment at this point. >> would you say that there are still critical risk on the scene? >> there is always a risk. we can- we're looking at wind shifts as a possibility and the fire changing direction on us. we don't anticipate that at this point in time. but it is always -- it is a factor that does affect us on the fire grounds here. we are looking for, you know, when we talk about containment we need to to get ahead of the fire. need to be able to stop it before it has a chance to spread

at the front of it. >> in terms of e the fire risks were you anticipating that this could be a danger day in that area, given the winds, the heat and what we've been seeing? and we do understand there are areas that pg&e has said they would shut off the power to in advance if conditions are ripe for a fire. is this an area you've been watching closely for just such a danger. >> absolutely. when we have the heat and the wind, you know, middle of summer, dry grass, it's dangerous conditions at that point. you know, every summer we face the same thing. these seem to pop off pretty fast as far as the fire danger. it seems like we are looking at august conditions in june. >> and it is so -- as we watch from stooif hd, such dramatic images of the air tankers swooping in so low to drop the fire retardant. there as we zoom in you can see

the line of flames between concord and walnut creek on the border. talk about the fire retardant. you don't dump it on the fire. you dump it ahead of the flames to try to keep it from spreading you dump water on the flames. >> that's correct. the fire retardant is a pre-treatment of the vegetation there that helps -- it reduces the ability of the fire to spread. >> all right. ryan, bane thank you for the latest on the fire fighting efforts. ryan with the contra costa county fire protection district we wish you good luck in the hours heyde. we want to share the quick information we have got fibrin officials saying, please if you are in that area stay off your phone unless you need to report a live threatening emergency at your location. but if you are physically unable to leave your home unassisted then call 911. >> sure. because the norts know there is a problem. you don't need to call at this point unless you have a critical issue. you can see the fire retardant
