. good morning. thanks so much for joining us on this sunday, july 1st. let's start with a first look at the forecast. >> good sunday morning, everyone. a very different story in terms of weather. we have fog and you can see it here with live doppler 7 and the satellite image, it's filled in along the coast. this onshore flow is going to create cooler conditions this afternoon. so in the 9:00 hour we'll still be dealing with fog and low clouds. inland temperatures though already warming up top 70s. along the bay in the 60s. at the coast, upper 50s. by noon, the clouds will pull

back to the coast and then by this afternoon, we'll still see those low clouds hanging out at the beaches. so inland temperatures climbing up into the mid 90s today. not near 100 like yesterday. around the bay, in the mid 80s. at the coast, mid 60s. sunsets at 8:35. the onshore breeze will get stronger in the next few days so i'll let you know how much cooler it will be into the fourth of july coming up. developing news -- a massive wildfire continues to grow in yolo county sending smoke pouring across the bay area. the county fire started just after 2:00 yesterday afternoon and has already burned 8,000 acres. people there have been ordered to evacuate from their homes. our reporter has more from the fire lines. >> reporter: a giant plume of smoke fills the northern california air. about 50 miles northwest of sacramento just outside

of ginda. >> it is very hot, windy. terrain is very rugged in there. elevation is pretty high. >> reporter: temperatures well over 100 degrees mixed with high winds against bone-dry brush have brought the flames out of control. >> no word yet on whether or not any homes or buildings have been damaged or destroyed. from yolo county california, abc news. in lake county, there are new mandatory clear lake. the pawnee fire has burned nearly 14,000 acres and is 73% contained. smoke from this fire is also drifting down to the bay area. our sutro tower camera county the smoke rolling in. the sky suddenly goes from blue to murky brown because of the smoke. more from concord where fire watch continues today.

>> reporter: dark smoke swept into downtown napa, and with it, a heavy feeling. >> a lot of friends and family are texting today and saying they're having some ptsd. >> the pain of the north bay fires is still fresh. this was the view from savannah kurtling's house. but the smoke in the sky actually comes from the county fire in yolo county and the pawnee fire in lake county. it's not much of a comfort for savannah. she evacuated during the atlas fire. >> i'm imagining what they're going through. >> reporter: red flag warnings continue to loom over napa and sonoma counties until sunday afternoon, meaning fire risk is high. in contra costa county wind likely re-ignited a brush fire. the more than 260 acre grassfire threatened homes friday. ambers from smoldering trees likely started the second fire. >> we were prepared for this. we have up-staffed.

we have extra crews on duty all weekend because of the high fire danger. and this is exactly why we do that. >> reporter: people who liv nearby in crystal ranch in montecito, neighborhoods are grateful for the regular and extra crews. drone view 7 shows just how close the fire came to destroying homes. >> firefighters, if not for them, our home probably would have burnt down. it is nice to know people are there to take care of us and our homes. >> reporter: a recent brush clearing by the homeowners association likely helped. owners are keeping station 22 crews fed and hydrated, ready for the next fight. >> we will eat every last one of them. thank you guys so much. >> reporter: a pick-up truck backfiring may have sparked the fire in concord which shows you how dry the grass is and how fire the fire danger is. let's head back over to

meteorologist frances dinglasan for a closer look at what we can expect today. >> hi, chris. we will still see some smoke from these fires affecting napa county and sonoma county, even into the bay area. a red flag warning has been extended until 3:00 this afternoon. this does include lake and solano counties. we'll see gusts up to 30 miles per hour. wind is coming from the north. humidly low as well. things will start to shift into tomorrow where the sea breeze will return. right now near the pawnee fire the temperatures is very mild, 79 degrees, relative humidity 21. for the county fire, it is a little bit warmer, relative humidity lower and gusts up to 16 miles per hour. over the next 24 hours winds will start to die down in the afternoon. and notice by later on tonight and into tomorrow, the winds

shift. they will be coming more from the northwest. >> good information, frances. head over to our website, nbc 7 news.com or download the abc 7 news app for the latest fire, evacuations and warnings. 5:06. san francisco police are investigating a deadly shooting in the mission district. officers were in the area near 17th and mission last night when they heard gunshots around 8:30. it is not clear yet what led up to the shooting but we do know one man died. another person suffered life threatening injuries. so far, police have not announced any arrests. nearly 200 guns are off the streets this morning after a gun buyback san francisco. abc 7 news was outside united playas on howard street as people turned in all sorts of weapons, no questions asked. one person even brought in a homemade shotgun. most of the weapons were handguns but there were a few assault rifles turned in. organizers say they have one

goal -- >> there are people out here who are pardoned with the community, sfpd, city, all coming together who wants to end senseless gun violence. >> this is the seventh year that united playas held a gun buyback. people received $100 for a handgun or $200 for assault weapons. nine people are recovering this morning after a violent stabbing spree in idaho. boise police responded to a call last night about a man with a knife attacking victims at an apartment complex. the suspect is identified as a 30-year-old man from out of state. >> after taking the suspect into custody, multiple officers responded. located nine victims, both within apartments and in the parking lot. those nine victims have been transported to local emergency room. all are receiving treatment. unfortunately, some of those victims, in addition, are suffering from life threatening injuries. >> police say some of the

behave, can't whine anymore, can't go around saying how scared we are. it is going to take a different kind of organizing and commitment. >> reporter: the trump administration recently ended the policy of separating children from their parents crossing the border, and this week a federal judge ordered officials to re-unite separated families within 30 days. in san francisco, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. a boost in pay for san francisco workers starting today. the minimum wage for all workers in the city goes up to $15 her hour. it is the final stage of a progressive minimum wage increase that was passed under mayor ed lee in 2014. a change in rules for california marijuana dispensaries. starting today, dispensaries will only be allowed to sell marijuana that's been tested for pesticides and micro biologicali talents. noncompliant inventory had to be unloaded, so there were reports some shops yesterday even had 50% discounts on products.

we are taking a live look outside from our san rafael camera. what a nice view on this sunday morning. sunrise in san rafael expected at 5:51 this morning. some changes are ahead in the forecast and frances returns in a little bit with that in just a few minutes. first to a story you'll see only on abc 7 news -- a san francisco police officers who retired on friday was supposed to have his canine partner return home with him. but this morning, the dog is in a cage in a san bruno facility. abc 7 has the story. >> he's been part of my life 24/7. i go to work with him every day. when we're not at work, he's around the house. he's wherever i go, with me. retired from sfo's canine unit and should have gone home together. instead, the dog was delivered to the san bruno pet hospital for boarding. >> he's locked away, inside in a cage. >> reporter: kerwin has been on the phone non-stop to try to cut

14,000-acre wildfire is 73% contained. the fires are putting out a lot of smoke but a lot of it is drifting down to san francisco. this is a picture of the smoke framing the tower. dark smoke also drifted into downtown napa. red flag warnings will continue into napa and sonoma counties until this afternoon. memorial services for 2 of the 5 victims killed in the shooting at a maryland newspaper are planned for this week. according to the "baltimore sun," a celebration of life for editor and columnist robert hiaasen will be held tomorrow night. a memorial service for specia publications editor wendi winters will be held next week. scary moments for passengers aboard a boat in the democrabah. an explosion rocked a neighboring tour boat killing one and injuring nine others yesterday. ten americans were onboard and two people made it to the

with the warriors. >> reporter: as he said he re-sn with the warriors, but a year from now the team more than likely will be going through the exact same situation with durant. espn's chris hains is the first to report drapt will sign a two-year max deal with the warriors that includes a player option. the deal is worth $30 million for the upcoming season and $31.5 million for the second, if durant opts in. the deal helps the warriors sign other players as it saves the team $20 million in the luxury tax in the short term. but if durant opts out in the second year, he once again becomes a free agent and would then be able to sign a max contract for $221 million over five years. john travares did not resign with the islanders. the maple leafs are a top suitor. san jose awaits his decision and they are waiting to secure one

we will bring you all the highlights tonight starting at 5:00. hope you'll join us then. good morning. i'm meteorologist frances dinglasan. we're starting out very differently. lots of clouds and fog at the coast. you can see here with live doppler 7. satellite image, notice how the clouds all along the coast have spilled into the bay. in fact, it is socked in this parts of san francisco. the fog has filled in to across the bay, into parts of the east bay, oakland, even near the oakland airport. here is a live shot from the summi sutro tower. temperatures are mainly in the 50s and 60s. san francisco 55. oakland 56. san jose, 62 degrees right now. gilroy, cooler at 53 degrees. i want to show you this live shot in san rafael. we can see some of those hazy conditions. we'll see smoke from those fires again today affecting parts of the north bay and into san francisco. in santa rosa, it is currently

52 degrees. napa, 55 where they'll see some smoke as well throughout the day. fairfield, concord at 61 61. livermore at 63. this is a visible satellite image yesterday. we've of course been tracking the pawnee fire and county fire. this is the smoke drifting that you see. we've had a northerly flow, it drifted down through parts of the north bay, and it even made it down as far as san francisco as we've been showing you. so red flag warnings still in effect for some parts of the north bay mountains. this does include lake county, yolo county and solano. this land breeze is dry so humidity can drop as low as 5%. over the next 24 hours, the winds will shift. notice the winds decrease into the afternoon. they're coming from the north-northeast. but it starts to shift from the southwest. so the winds will be floating

away from us by later on tonight. so that should affect and improve air quality for us tomorrow. now for today, check out the fog forecast animation system, still filling in some fog across parts of the east bay. pulls back mainly to the coast by lunch time, then starts to creep back in in the late afternoon and evening and spreading again overnight. for the fillmore jazz festival, today it is going to be cooler so grab a light jacket. you'll still need subglansubglse sunscreen in the afternoon. highs today will range from low 60s at the coast, breezy conditions as well picking up this afternoon. then we've got 68 in san francisco. oakland, 73. san jose's 86 degrees. and in antioch, our warmer inland location will be 95. we'll only probably see triple-digit heat in the ukiah area. 102 there. lake port at 99 degrees.

i we worked with pg&eof to save energy because wenie. wanted to help the school. they would put these signs on the door to let the teacher know you didn't cut off the light. the teachers, they would call us the energy patrol. so they would be like, here they come, turn off your lights! those three young ladies were teaching the whole school about energy efficiency. we actually saved $50,000. and that's just one school, two semesters, three girls. together, we're building a better california.
