80s. at the coast, mid 60s today. clouds return again overnight with a stronger sea breeze that continues to build through mdweek. i'll have details coming up. >> thanks. developing news -- a massive wildfire continues to grow in yolo county sending smoke pouring across the bay area. the county fire started just after 2:00 yesterday afternoon and has already burned 8,000 acres. people there have been ordered to evacuate from their homes. our reporter has more from the fire lines. >> reporter: a giant plume of smoke fills the northern california air. about 50 miles northwest of about 50 miles northwest of sacramento just outside the town terrain is very rugged in there. elevation is pretty high. >> reporter: temperatures well over 100 degrees mixed with high winds against bone-dry brush have brought the flames out of control. >> no word yet on whether or not any homes or buildings have been

damaged or destroyed. from yolo county california, abc news. in lake county, there are new mandatory evacuations near clear lake because of the pawnee fire which has burned nearly 14,000 acres and is 73% contained. smoke from this fire is also drifting down to the bay area. our sutro tower camera county the smoke rolling in. the sky suddenly goes from blue to murky brown because of the smoke. more from concord where fire watch continues today. >> reporter: dark smoke swept into downtown napa, and with it, a heavy feeling. >> a lot of friends and family are texting today and saying they're having some ptsd. >> the pain of the north bay fires is still fresh. this was the view from savannah

curtling's house. but the smoke in the sky actually comes from the county fire in yolo county and the pawnee fire in lake county. it's not much of a comfort for savannah. she evacuated during the atlas fire. >> i'm imagining what they're going through. >> reporter: red flag warnings continue to loom over napa and sonoma counties until sunday afternoon, meaning fire risk is high. in contra costa county wind likely re-ignited a brush fire. the more than 260 acre grassfire threatened homes and forces evacuations friday. embers from smoldering trees likely started the second fire. >> we were prepared for this. we have up-staffed. we have extra crews on duty all weekend because of the high fire danger. and this is exactly why we do that. >> reporter: people who live nearby in crystal ranch in montecito, neighborhoods are grateful for the regular and extra crews. drone view 7 shows just how

close the fire came to destroying homes. >> firefighters, if not for them, our home probably would have burnt down. it is nice to know people are there to take care of us and our homes. >> reporter: firefighters say a recent brush clearing by the homeowners association likely helped. homeowners aren't taking any chances keeping station 22 crews fed and hydrated, ready for the next fight. >> we will eat every last one of them. thank you guys so much. >> reporter: a pick-up truck backfiring may have sparked the fire in concord which shows you how dry the grass is and how high the fire danger is. let's head back over to meteorologist frances dinglasan for a closer look at what we can expect today. >> chris, we'll still see some smoke through parts of the north bay, and even into san francisco. i want to show you visible satellite image. i took this snapshot from yesterday evening at about 5:00. you can see the smoke, see the white. those aren't clouds. that's smoke coming from the

pawnee fire and the county fire. as it drifts southward, it heads over napa, sonoma and all the way down into san francisco. so the red flag warnings still in effect with high pressure creating this northerly flow. this is until 3:00 today for the north bay mountains above 1,000 feet. of course it includes lake and yolo counties and solano counties as well. gusts up to 30 miles an hour with humidity dropping to below 5%. we will be tracking these fires for you. >> download the abc 7 news app for the latest fire information, evacuations and warnings. 6:05 is the time.ice are investigating a deadly shooting in the mission district. officers were in the area near 17th and mission last night when they heard gunshots around 8:30. it is not clear yet what led up to the shooting but we do know one man died. another person suffered life threatening injuries.

so far, police have not announced any arrests. nearly 200 guns are off the streets this morning after a gun buyback event in san francisco. abc 7 news was outside united playas on howard street as people turned in all sorts of weapons, no questions asked. one person even brought in a homemade shotgun. most of the weapons were handguns but there were a few assault rifles turned in. organizers say they have one goal -- >> there are people out here who are pardoned with the community, sfpd, city, all coming together who wants to end senseless gun violence. >> this is the seventh year that united playas held a gun buy-back event. people received $100 for a handgun or $200 for assault weapons. nine people are recovering this morning after a violent stabbing spree in idaho. boise police responded to a call last night about a man with a knife attacking victims at an apartment complex. the suspect is identified as a 30-year-old man from out of

state. >> after taking the suspect into custody, multiple officers responded. located nine victims, within apartments and in the parking lot. those nine victims have been transported to local emergency room. all are receiving treatment. unfortunately, some of those victims, in addition, are suffering from life threatening injuries. >> police say some of the victims include members of the refugee community. right now the motive is unclear. what do we want! >> justice! >> when do we want it! >> now! a message to the trump administration. at least seven families belong together rallies took place in the bay area yesterday with hundreds more across the country. this is a look at protests in san jose, oakland and san francisco where an estimated 30,000 people turned out. here's abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard. ♪ >> reporter: thousands of

welcome back, everyone. now to a story you will see only on abc 7 news. a san francisco police officers who retired on friday was supposed to have his canine partner return home with him. but this morning, the dog is in a cage in a san bruno facility. abc 7 has the story. >> he's been part of my life 24/7. i go to work with him every day. when we're not at work, he's around the house. he's wherever i go, with me.bar canine unit and shut have gone home together. however, he was ordered to

deliver the dog to the san bruno pet hospital for boarding. >> he's locked away, inside in a cage. >> reporter: kirwan can't even get to the hospital to visit baro who also suffers from separation anxiety. >> it is not something i would wish on any dog. it is terrible. >> reporter: beth trains police canines. she worries about the dog's physical and mental health. >> he could pass away with just super stress, depression, not eating. it can be a huge deal. absolutely! >> in is kind of a unique situation. i'm not aware of this happening like this in the past. >> reporter: even the officer's union is scratching its head over this. according to kirwan, it is a standard process. the paperwork to retire together was filled out weeks ago. verbal okays were even given, and yet the separation. so what could happen to baro? according to his owner, he could

go back to the air force base where he was born for reassignment, which the vet opposes. he could be medicated, or the two could never see each other again. san francisco police, meantime, has not commented. in san francisco, abc 7 news. if you've ever dealt with fraud, you know it is a terrible feeling to find out somebody's using your credit card. banks are supposed to reverse the charges but a san francisco viewer said he couldn't get his to do t. 7 on your side's michael finney found out why and helped put a stop to it. >> reporter: mark knew he had never been to this 7-eleven. >> i'd stop for snacks and sundries. >> he didn't buy gas at chevron or eat at burger king, either. yet all those charges appeared on his credit card statement. someone else spending his money. >> my credit card either got skimmed or someone took a picture of it. >> that was alarming enough. but then, he saw in. >> google music. that was the one that stuck out. >> reporter: the crook, who

rather audaciously used mark's credit card to subscribe to google music. that's unlimited songs for $9.99 a month. mark's credit card company, synchrony bank, reversed the one-time charges and changed his account number. mark thought everything was fixed. it wasn't. >> frustrating beyond belief. >> google music was still charging his credit card every month. even with the new account number. so mark called google to cancel the service. >> we can't turn it off because your name's not associated with it. mark couldn't close out the account because he wouldn't the customer. so he'd have to just keep paying for the thief's music? >> they said your credit card company has to contact us. >> reporter: so mark told synchrony bank to stop paying the charges. however the bank ruled the charges were legitimate. the bank said mark must have bs. how else would google music have his new card number? >> doesn't make any sense. why would i ask them to call and

>> reporter: this went on for a whole year until mark contacted 7 on your side. we pointed out that google confirmed mark was not the customer, so synchrony cut off the charges and refunded his money telling us, we take cardholder satisfaction very seriously and do our best to thoroughly investigate complaints before issuing a resolution. >> thank you, michael finney. >> that was michael finney reporting. so how did google get mark's new credit card number? turns out the charges had automatically rolled over to the new card number because it was a recurring charge. that slipped past fraud investigators and that's why they kept denying his claim. 6:17. from the midwest to the east from the midwest to the east coast, excessive and dangerous heat is affecting one-third of the nation. tens of millions of americans are under heat watches, warnings and advisories as temperatures reach more than 100 degrees. some cities have staffed more first responders this weekend to help with heat related calls. >> something as simple as a

today. in santa rosa and napa, novato, they're all at 54 degrees. we are our east bay hills. you soo he soee some of the fog clouds creeping into the mountains there. you are dealing with low clouds bringing us a slightly cooler afternoon. we are also dealing with high fire danger. we'll see smokey skies in parts of the north bay spilling into san francisco today. the cooling trend that starts today will continue all the way into the fourth of july. here's the visible satellite image. you can see the smoke from the pawnee fire and county fire here. notice winds are coming from the north, drifting all the way down through napa, sonoma, petaluma, t novato, and all the way into san francisco. high fire danger, red flag warnings in effect until 3:00 p.m. today. winds still coming from the north with gusts up to 30 miles per hour and also very low humidity. so fires can starty easily.

however, things will change over the next 24 hours. notice winds are coming from the north. they start to die down in the afternoon. this evening winds do pick up, but notice the direction. it shifts. we'll be getting a westerly breeze, sea breeze, which will help cool us down. that's what's also helped create some of the fog and low clouds this morning. by lunch time, it does pull back to the coast but there will be areas that will stay cloudy throughout the day, especially along ocean beach and san francisco, down towards half moon bay. then the clouds pull in again overnight into tomorrow morning. highs today, you'll notice they are a little bit cooler. ranging from low 60s in half moon bay, san francisco 68. san jose 86. mid 90s as you make your way toio. we'll still han on to it heat b ukiah. overnight lows in the 50s.

incredible video. scary moments for passengers aboard a boat in the bahamas. an explosion rocked a neighboring tour boat killing one and injuring nine others yesterday. ten americans were onboard and two people native to the bahamas. some people jumped into the water to help pull at least one of the injured off the boat. the cause of the explosion has not been determined. a powerful message across the country. hundreds of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets yesterday for families belong together rallies. they are demanding families be re-united. >> reporter: from large cities, to small towns, americans drawn to protest. >> what do we want! >> justice! >> when do we want it! >> now! >> reporter: more than 700 planned marches all united under the banner "families belong together." those demonstrators outraged by the trump administration's zero tolerance policy that forced the removal of more than 2,000 undocumented children from their

san francisco bay ferry is raising adult fares on all routes. the increases range from 10 cents to 50 cents each way. this will be the fourth of five annual fare increases. it is intended to offset rising operational costs. also starting today, it will cost more to cross the golden gate bridge. the toll went up at midnight by 25 cents across the board for fas track, pay by play and car pool drivers. tolls are also going up for trucks. this is the last toll bump to fix a budget shortfall. the golden gate bridge is not impacted by another measure passed last month since it is independently operated. the measure will raise tolls on the seven other bay area bridges starting next year. 6:38 on this sunday morning. frances has been tracking the forecast for us and frances, we are looking ahead to also changes for the fourth of july. a cooldown is on the way. >> yeah. we started out last night as we saw the sea breeze pick up, we've got fog this morning. here is a live shot. he's spilled in across san

to report that durant will sign a two-year max deal with the warriors that includes a player option. the deal is worth $30 million for the upcoming season and $31.5 million for the second, if durant opts in. the deal helps the warriors sign other players as it saves the team $20 million in the luxury tax in the short term. but if durant opts out in the second year, he once again becomes a free agent and would then be able to sign a max contract for $221 million over five years. john travares did not resign with the islanders. he's officially a free agent. it increases the sharks' chances of land being the prized free agent. the maple leafs are a top suitor. san jose awaits his decision and they aren't awaiting to secure one of their own key players. sharks agreed to an eight-year contract with logan couture. espn reports the deal is worth $64 million. he has 213 goals and 437 points in his nine-year tenure with san jose.

coast will kick in. notice by this afternoon, it does pull back by lunch time. we'll get clearing in san francisco but the clouds stick around all day throughout the coast, then push in overnight again tonight. if you're headed to the fillmore jazz festival today, it is going to be cooler so grab a jacket, but there will be sunshine this afternoon. temperatures in the low to mid 60s. also highs today, notice a bit cooler, breezy conditions as well this afternoon. but the breeze instead of a land breeze will be from the sea, so the sea breeze is what's going to make up cooler a little bit today. san francisco 68. oakland 73 and sunny for the a's game. san jose, 86 degrees. warm still in antioch, 95 degrees. again, hazy conditions coming from the smoke, from the fire. napa will be hazy, as well as san rafael, look for low to mid 80s there. santa cruz, you see some of the low clouds out there. beaches will have partly cloudy conditions. santa cruz will warm up to 72 degrees. i want to show you the

temperature trend in the te interior locations. still above average but we'll drop all the way into fourth of july with that stronger sea breeze. here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. the heat eases today, only mid 90s inland. at the coast, it will be in the mid 60s. temperatures continue to cool monday, tuesday, stronger sea breeze for the fourth of july, breezy and the coolest day of the week inland areas will be near 80 degrees, low 70s around the bay. near 60s at the coast. high pressure builds so we ramp back up again for next weekend and will be tracking fog for the fourth of july. >> sounds good, frances. thank you. the summer of paving is under way in the east bay. not exactly as fun as the beach or a weekend in wine country, but oakland is hoping it meanss its summer of love. oakland is getting its summer of paving.

>> reporter: you'll hear less music and more of this sound. but it is welcome news to some folks. >> i'm happy that they're getting done. because it's been years of problems on the streets. >> reporter: droneview 7 shows us an aerial view of the work already starting. crews are trying to repave four times more miles than in previous years. officials have a lofty goal -- oakdot hopes 25 miles of city streets will see smooth, new pavement this year. the average in other years has been six. city leaders say it will not only help drivers but also improve safety. >> certainly on this street we've lost a good number of families here due to violence and so the neighbors want to make a difference. they're engaged. they placed a demand to get this street repaved. >> reporter: and it worked. this neighborhood at east 16th and 37th avenue is getting new pavement for the first time in decades. money for the summer of paving comes from the state's gas tax which is on the chopping block in the upcoming mid-term elections.
