grown to 22,000 acres. east of the cache creek casino resort which is open tonight there are new mandatory evaccations outside the city along highway 28. there are evacuation advisories in parts of yolo, solano and napa countys. cornell bernard begins live team coverage tonight in yolo county. cornell? >> reporter: high, dion. it has been a tough day for firefighters, scorching hot temperatures and gusty winds. the county fire has burned about one acre every hour since yesterday. it's already burned 22,000 acres. the main fair fight happening just two miles from where we are in the mountains between yolo and napa county. you can't see those mountains anymore. so much smoke. red flag conditions have definitely been a game changer. >> this is the worst fire i've seen since we've been here,

about 25 years. >> neighbors are hoping and praying cal fire wins this fire fight. a race against time and the elements. cal fire battling a monster fire, which exploded in size overnight in yolo county. chopper crews doing rapid fire water drops. we counted one every four minutes. >> try to do a ten foot cut. >> reporter: more than a thousand firefighters are on the front lines of the blaze which has now moved into napa county. the view from sky 7 shows the growing fire putting up so much smoke. >> we knew, coming into this weekend, that we were going to have very hot and dry weather conditions. and we've been under a red flag warning now for the entire weekend. >> reporter: frank greer is under a mandatory evacuation order, but he's not leaving his ranch and his prized cattle behind. he's got faith in firefighters. >> i didn't want to leave the place and have to haul pets out.

>> you're ready to go if you have to? >> yeah, but i definitely put stuff out after that. in the living room, photos and stuff. >> reporter: dozens of strctures are threatened, one of them a mountaintop farm. he fears it's too late. >> i'm not holding out. if it's not touched, i will be ecstatic. if -- >> frank greering sending this message. >> oh, well, we thank them. >> reporter: we're back live off here, highway 16. cal fire says about 30 structures are threatened tonight, some of them may be homes. they say it could be days before this fire, this monster fire, is under control. we're live in yolo county tonight, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. >> much appreciated, cornell, thank you. tonight, we are under a smoke advisory here in the bay area. this video of point tower shows you exactly why. abc 7 news reporter kate larson is live for us at the berkeley marina with more about those conditions. kate? >> reporter: well, dion,

normally from this vantage point there's a clear shot to treasure island and the san francisco skyline that you can see behind me. there's not a lot to see except a sheet of white because of all this smoke and also the fog. take a look at this. here's some video from our cameras throughout the bay area, which show the fog and the smoke which really sort of took over this sky last night. i remember this morning, too, there was sort of an orange glow in san francisco. so what's happening is, of course, we have the large fire that you just heard about burning in yolo county. smoke is blowing down into the bay area from that fire. but at the same time, our summer fog rolled in. and that smoke is actually blowing over this fog. i spoke to lisa pasana with the bay area air district who explained many r about what all now above the fog. it's kind of being trapped there. that's actually helpful to us. although we see the orange haze, we're not actually getting the

smoke. but we are getting some of the ash that's raining out from that. >> reporter: and take a look, here's a thin layer of that ash that lisa is talking about. this was covering some cars and patio furniture in alameda. we're hearing about that throughout the bay area. pasano says the good news is, despite the ash, there's not a ton of particulate matter in the air right now. the wind you've noticed throughout the, the good news is that it should be safe to go outside with your kids or the elderly. lisa does say for those of us, for those of you watching in napa county, to be extra cautious if you ever see or smell any of that smoke in the air. best to maybe go inside and protect your lungs. for now, that is the latest here live in berkeley, i'm kate larson, abc 7 news, dion, send it back to yo. >> much needed word of warning, kate, thanks. >> along with the smoke today, we saw nothing if the bay area, and that fog may have kept the smoke from reaching many of us on the ground. here's spencer christian with

how the smoke affected our air quality. what an interesting picture. >> the satellite image i have is a looping satellite image from the last couple hours. the wind aloft has been out of the north, generally, that's what has blown the smoke down into the bay area. as kate pointed out, the surface wind has been variable. the smoke is being carried out by surface wind, varying from onshore so southwest. move along and show you the conditions at the site of the fire now. it's hot and dry there, temperature right now about 95 degrees, relative humidity only 28%, wind gusting up to 18 mirps. good news, even though the wind will remain strong into the evening hours, but it will diminish into tomorrow. good news for us in the bay area, improving air quality tomorrow. we'll look at the forecast in a few minutes. dion? >> good news, indeed, spencer, thank you. the pawnee fire in lake

county has now topped 14,000 acres. right now, more than a thousand personnel are trying to contain it. that fire has been at 73% containment since friday. and you can keep track of the changing weather conditions weather an monitor the forecast the go. switching gears now, new details from boise, idaho where this man is facing charges of stabbing nine people, including six children, that 3-year-old's birthday party. it happened last night at an apartment complex that houses mostly refugees. police say 30-year-old timmy kenner had been staying with a friend at the complex, but was asked to leave. police say this does not appear to be a hate crime. president trump says he is narrowing his choice for the next supreme court. now, this is an opportunity to shape the court for a generation and it's -- not lost on lawmakers from both sides of the aisle. >> president trump says the

fight to confirm his choice for supreme court will be vicious. the president, in an interview with fox business says despite this he expects the process to go quickly. at first saying -- >> i think we're going to have support from democrats. >> a few moments later reversing himself. >> the other side, all they can do is obstruct and resist. >> one of those things democrats hope to prevent, relitigating roe v. wade. >> the roe v. wade is probably the one that people are talking about in terms of having an effect. >> for conservatives, including many evangelicals, the opportunity for a second trump appointment to the high court is a dream come true. >> we'll continue to do everything we can to fight for the unborn. >> for the president's opponent, it's a nightmare. >> women's access to safe legal abortions on the line. >> with senate republicans holding a razor thin majority. the president is courting five key players. joe manchin, heidi heitkamp.

and two republican women with a history of strong support for abortion rights, senators lisa murkowski and susan collins. >> a candidate for this important position, who would overturn roe v. wade would not be acceptable to me because that would indicate an activist agenda that i don't want to see a judge have. >> president trump says he'll announce his choice july 9th. linda lopez, abc news, new york. >> two local groups gathered in berkeley today with stuffed animals, books and blankets to deliver to young immigrants. abc 7 news was at the berkeley fellowship where the group code pink planned a caravan to local facilities where kids have been separated from their parents. they say their calls and e-mails have not been answered, but they plan to at least stand outside and sing songs in spanish, and other latin american languages.

elon musk says the company hit its milestone of producing 5,000 model 3s a week. production wrapped up at the fremont plant at 5:00 this morning. bloomberg news sent an e-mail, musk wrote the company could hit 6,000 cars a week by next month. the company has experienced many delays in rolling out the lower-priced model 3. well, a bill that aims to keep used hypodermic needles and drugs off california streets is gaining support tonight. the measure would require pharmaceutical companies to fund a statewide program for people to drop off needles and unused or expired drugs. lawmakers say without a uniform plan, people are flushing them down the toilet or leaving them

ash on their cars. well, in recent years, honeybee populations have struggled. but they are finding new life in the city. british biologists released a new study that found some surprising results. bee colonies in cities and suburbs are bigger, have more food stores, have longer life spans and produce more offspring than rural colonies. researchers said the bees have a more diverse range of flowers in urban areas than the agricultural crops now found in rural habitats. they believe the most important factor could be what bees don't see in cities, pesticides. now your forecast with spencer christian. >> let's start with the live dop 7 showing we've got the marine layer back at the coastline, much cooler today than yesterday because of the cooling influence of that marine layer. the wind has helped as well. fairly strong wind speeds, anywhere from 10 to 28 miles per hour. out of varying directions, help

of july. overnight, widespread low clouds and fog and even out in the bay, temperatures will be generally in the mid to upper 50s. forecast animation, showing how far the marine layer will push, well out of the bay. during the middle of the morning commute, we'll see foggy spots and reduced visibility for some morning commuters. but the fog will pull quickly back to the coastline. sunny says over the bay and inland for the afternoon. but fog will linger at the coastline for much of the day tomorrow. high temperatures range from about 62 at half moon bay to 64 in san francisco. up in the north, we will see mainly upper 70s to low 80s. farther north, lakeport will be at or above 90 degrees. the bay shoreline, mid to upper 70s. down to the south bay, mid-80s. looe here's a look' accu weather seven day forecast.

this, going for a season straight best win seemed exciting, but it went so i don't think. the a's got thumped, down two runs heading into the eighth. cleveland sent ten batters to the plate and scored eight runs by way of five singles, two doubles and two walks before the a's recorded a single out. josh lucas gave up four earned. cleveland hit 11 doubles. that's a coliseum record for either the home team or an opponent. they win big, 15-3. >> we really played well. and it's unfortunate that this game got completely out of hand for us. because the guys have felt great about not only playing well, but coming back. and we felt like we had a chance to come back there in the seventh and eighth innings too. and, you know, we didn't come all the way back. >> it's an unfortunate couple of innings there. the good thing is, we have a game in a couple days. all those runs count for one win for them, which is -- you know, we played well, we still won the series. we're happy.
