hi, everybody. let's look at the cloud cover. this is the low clouds, the marine layer clouds and the gray you see overspreading our neighborhoods and what will keep our air clean down where we live today. you can see the smoke above. in fact, we have a sun rise sandwiched between the clouds and the smoke above it as we look back to mt. diablo. today temperature wise mid-50s to low 60s at 7:00. we'll stay in the 50s at the coast. we may spike to around 61, 62 this afternoon with a few pockets of sunshine. 72 to 79 at noon, around the bay and inland. 75 to 85 at 4:00. low to mid-70s at 7:00. more on the fire and the good news is coming in just a minute. here's alexis. we are looking good for the monday morning commute here, too, we are expecting, of course, a lighter week all week for the fourth of july holiday. a little bit of stop and go traffic at this point. folks are slowing down a little

bit north of state route 24. no major issues. westbound 80, highway 4 to the maze, still looking great. just 21 minutes for you. we do have the metering lights on and a little stop and go traffic on the bridge about 17 minutes into san francisco and southbound 101 out of san francisco to sfo, you're looking great in the green at eight minutes. we'll check on the tri-valley commute up next. a big update here on that fire that's burning out of control, the county fire started in yolo. look at this new video we got overnight. the fire burned more than 32,000 acres since it began on saturday afternoon. at this point it is only 2% contained. more than 12,000 firefighters from across the state are rushing to contain it. that fire is now burning east of lake berryessa. no napa county residents have been evacuated at this point, but we know people in yolo

county, across that county, have been evacuated. we're watching for any updates. if you live in napa county we'll get that to you as soon as those evacuation orders come in. right now there are none. no structures have been destroyed. more than 100, though, are threatened. cal fire says full containment expected friday. they still have quite a ways to go. >> jessica, thank you. the bay area made national news because of this. take a look at your screen. orange skies caused by smoke from the county fire. you can barely see alcatraz in the shot. bay area officials say the fog is actually trapping the smoke. we remain under a smoke advisory and they say to avoid activity outside especially children if it looks smoky. run your air conditioners in your home and your car to recirculate the air. >> i think it caught a lot of us by surprise, mike, that it was so orange and this morning we showed that live picture a couple minutes ago. it doesn't look to be that same color so does that mean there's an improvement or are we being

fooled by the fog? >> you're being fooled. it will turn orange again this afternoon. the bay area air quality management district which governs our spare the air alert, we don't have one. the air quality is fine. what you get from burning vegetation and even later this afternoon they're not expecting it to be unhealthy for any of us, so you may get some ash in your neighborhoods but, overall, they're saying the air quality will be fine. here's what's going to happen. you notice the winds are still out of the northeast. that means they're coming from the northeast and blowing to the southwest. and that's going to keep the smoke over us for the better part of today. starting tomorrow the winds start blowing out of the west. the sierras will get the smoke deck. thank you, mike. let's see some of the photos you have sent to us and look at that bright orange sky. steven from napa post this had video of the smoke on twitter.

golf course. you can see it is in essence destroyed. a lot of disappointed people out here this morning. take a look at the video. a lot of firefighters putting water onto the building. this is the golf course clubhouse. the fire started around 3:00 a.m. it took firefighters about an hour to put it out. unfortunately, the flames did a lot of damage to the clubhouse. >> lots of locals, lots of regulars, lots of tourists who just come here to enjoy the wonderful scenery and the actual golf course that's there and the building itself. unfortunately, there's extensive damage to this building. it will be some time before that's actually brought back up. >> reporter: fortunately there were no injuries. the golf course will be closed today. it's not clear when it will reopen. investigators are here on the scene right now trying to figure out what started this fire. reporting live here in san francisco, matt keller, abc 7 news. matt, thank you. 6:05 now. the search is on for a gunman in san francisco after a deadly

shooting in the mission district. abc 7 news is at 17th and mission street where police officers responded after hearing gunfire on saturday night. they found three people shot. one person died. "the chronicle" reports the two other people are in the hospital in serious condition. a lawsuit is growing against the company hired to clean up toxic soil at the hunters point naval shipyard in san francisco. according to the lead attorney in the case some 2,000 more plaintiffs are set to join the suit against tetra tech today claiming chronic health problems. a news conference is set for 1:00 p.m. two former employees accuse them of falsifying soil samples. a bill that aims to keep used hyuse ed hypodermic needles. they want them to drop them off. lawmakers say without a uniform

a man hunt in france this morning. police are looking for a notorious gangster who escaped prison by helicopter. yes, this was caught on camera. in the video you see two men dressed in black running out and then a helicopter pulls away from the prison court y c fayeed inside. they believe they took the helicopter pilot hostage.

he was later found burned in a suburb of paris. no one was hurt. fayeed escaped prison in 2013. police caught him a short time later.icas iden quite official yet, andres manuel lopez obrador has 20% more votes than the next closest candidate. lopez obrador ran an anti-corruption campaign. he also promised to work with the u.s. >> always rooted in mutual respect. and in defense of our migrant countrymen who work and live honestly in that country. >> and i want to show you that tweet new this morning. president trump congratulating lopez obrador and he says he looks forward to working with him. president trump also says that there is much to be done that

will benefit both the united states and mexico. back to you. thank you. developi t u.s. summit with north korea. an american delegation met with north korean officials at the demilitarized zone yesterday. president trump's national security adviser says there's a og in one year. john bolton says he expects kim jong-un to cooperate so sanctions will be lifted and aid will start to flow. bolton wouldn't comment on "the washington post" report, though, that says u.s. intelligence believes north korea may be trying to hide its weapons. north korea promised to work towards denuclearization after last month's summit but the new satellite images could show otherwise. researchers say they show the expansion of a key ballistic missile manufacturing site in north korea. an australian woman admits she made a big mistake while on vacation. she was hand feeding sharks as part of a tourist excursion. one of the sharks grabbed on to her and dragged her right off

it will be cool to mild. our coolest afternoon will be on independence day, july 4th, wednesday. a look at the cloud cover. notice all of us getting covered by the time we get to the end of the morning commute, about 9:00. and as we move to noon most of the clouds are back to the host. a finger of fog and that's about it. you can see during the evening hours it starts to make another trip back to the east covering us tonight. mid-70s to mid-80s with san jose in the middle of 80. low to mid-70s on the peninsula. millbrae at 68. 59 to 62 along the coast with just a few pockets of sunshine today. mid-60s for downtown south san francisco, sausalito, and then upper 70s to low 80s through most of the north bay valleys. clearly lake county and up to mendocino, temperatures will be in the mid to upper 90s. we'll have upper 60s, richmond and berkeley.bout 90 is our sprd in our valleys. my accuweather forecast a little

welcome to our newscast. you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. trying to cover it all. let's cover the weather here in the next 25 seconds. the cloud cover in the gray covering our neighborhoods. a nice onshore breeze that will keep our air clean down where we live but there will be plenty of smoke above us. get ready for hazy sunshine. away from the coast where the low clouds will be more dominant, you're in the 50s today. the rest of us hit the 72 to 79 degree range at noon and then 75 to 85 from the bay and inland at 4:00. that's close to average. and 70 to 76 at 7:00. good evening coming your way. more on when the smoke is leaving your skies. alexis? we have a couple issues to talk about, one of those on eastbound 80 for folks trying to get out of town. a roll over crash. looks like a little bit closer to the fair field area around suisun valley road. that is all off on the shoulder. we're seeing the backup on the westbound side. i think some folks may be slowing down to take a look at

that. not much of a backup eastbound, the direction of that crash. westbound 80, another crash off on the shoulder. this one involving a motorcycle, possibly some injuries there. and the bay bridge toll plaza, the metering lights have been on for about an hour. a backup into the maze. drive times up next. the county fire continues to burn out of control this morning. containment only at 2%. i want to show you this new video that came in to our live desk overnight. you can really see the large flames burning on the hillsides. it has forced evacuations across yolo county and is starting to creep into napa county. let's check in with reporter amy hollyfield who is near the fire in winters. she has an update for us this morning. amy? >> reporter: good morning, jessica. check out the red sun rising behind me. this gives you a hazy look at the air here in winters. a spokesperson for cal fire tells me they are expecting an update in the next half hour and are hoping for a good one.

the weather did give them a bit of a break overnight. it cooled down and the winds settled down. here is a look at those flames from overnight. this was taken between brooks and lake berryessa. a spokesperson tells me she didn't hear of any issues overnight. she's hoping that's a good sign. no structures have burned, no injuries have been reported since this fire started on saturday. but 115 buildings are threatened, so they do have evacuation orders in place. police here along highway 128 tell us they are keeping an eye out for looters. they are watching out for those evacuated homes. they want people to know they do have a heavy police presence out here. it could take up to a week to contain this fire, but they are hoping for a good update and that will be at 7:00 this morning. stay with us as we continue to follow the updates on this fire. live in winters, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. absolutely, thank you, amy. this is time lapse video from the lap at the university of nevada reno.

take a look, the smoke moving south last night. mes away from the fire. meanwhile, the pawnee fire in lake county spread to another 1,000 acres over the weekend. >> it charred 14,500 acres of land and is 73% contained. the fire is burning northwest of the county fire that we've been talking about. there's still a mandatory evacuation order in effect for the community of double eagle where flames are threatening 50 structures. the pawnee fire has destroyed 22 structures since it began a week ago saturday. we are posting fire updates on our website, also the abc 7 news app. sign up for push alerts and get updates as they happen. happening today a memorial service is set to get under way for one of the victims killed in the shooting at a maryland newspaper. the family of deputy editor rob hiaasen is holding a celebration of life today. the family says the dress for the service is summer casual because they say rob would never want you to put on a suit for him. he was one of the five staff

members killed last thursday at the suspect is being held without bond. transportation advocates say a delayed plan put protected bike lanes along san francisco's embarcadero could have prevent add crash that has left a pedicab driver in critical condition. the port of san francisco was scheduled to create those lanes in 2015. but the port missed some key deadlines for their installation. the san francisco bicycle coalition says it receives complaints nearly every day from cyclists who use the embarcadero. police are still looking for the driver of the car that hit the pedicab driver last wednesday. surveillance video shows a gold honda civic four door swerving through the traffic before slamming into the pedicab. it caused it to collide with a second one and a family of four riding in the two cabs were hurt. anyone who ke toontact san francisco police. a woman drowned while trying to save three children swept into the ocean at half moon bay. this happened just after 6:30

last night at cowell ranch state beach. te sheriff's office says an undertow carried the children out into the waves. that woman went into the water to help them, but she got swept away herself. other family members saved the children but were unable to reach the 47-year-old woman. officials have not released her name but say she was from the east bay. developing news in morgan hill where several people became sick after being exposed to an unknown substance at a home depot. investigators say eight people in the store on east dunn avenue complained of an odor making them sick. firefighters had to evacuate the store. paramedics took four people to the hospital. the initial report was that pepper spray may have been released in the store. president trump is starting a crucial week in his presidency preparing to pick the next justice of the supreme court. the president knows this is going to be a battle. he was on fox news talking about resistance from democrats but he might also have trouble from some members of his own party. >> a candidate for this

what i was able to listen into. the suspect was arrested on charges of attempting to provide support to a foreign terrorist organization and they said he had been espousing his support for al qaeda for months. you can see they have a picture of the suspect on the screen. the suspect supposedly had been doing surveillance on a cleveland park as well as a u.s. coast guard station. he mentioned blowing up a fourth of july parade and other really concerning remarks about violence on the holiday that's coming up. i will keep listening in on the press conference and will have updates as they come in. >> how alarming. thank you, jessica. contra costa firefighters issuing a warning about the danger of illegal fireworks.

the forecast still holding. i believe we'll see cleaner air starting tomorrow as the winds and the upper levels of the atmosphere come out of the northeast today but out of the west tomorrow and the sea breeze is also going to start reaching up towards the fires and that will bring the overnight humidity levels up and drop the temperatures from 96 today to about 86. we'll still have some 100s around fresno, palm springs, chico. 68 and cloudiness in monterey. afternoon sunshine. it's pretty clear over lake tahoe right now. guess what happens when that wind starts blowing to the west, yep, smoky sunshine tuesday and wednesday and then the winds start blowing more towards oregon and that's where the

smoke will go thursday. we see a warming trend up in the high country starting thursday and through the weekend. and back to the breaking news at golden state park where an overnight fire destroyed the clubhouse at the golf course. abc 7 news reporter matt keller had this report from the scene. >> reporter: check out the clubhouse. it was destroyed overnight. we just talked with the general manager and they say they'll have to alert the community the golf course will be closed for a couple of days. take a look at the video from earlier this morning, a lot of firefighters putting water onto the building. it took firefighters about an hour to put it out. unfortunately, the flames did a lot of damage to the clubhouse. fortunately there were no injuries. investigators are on the scene trying to figure out what started the fire. we found out the nonprofit the first tee operated out of the clubhouse. they ran youth programs here. no word on how this is going to impact them.

reporting in golden gate park, matt keller, abc 7 news. 6:45. president trump's former personal lawyer is speaking for the first time. >> this is a new interview with george stephanopoulos. michael cohen says he's putting his family and his country first. it's important because in the past he said he would always remain loyal to the president. cohen spoke to stephanopoulos in an off camera interview. he's under investigation for potential bank fraud and campaign finance violations. now one part of this is $130,000 payment that cohen made to adult film star stormy daniels in exchange for her silence about an alleged affair with the president before he was elected. >> in the past he's always said that he did this on his own initiative so i asked him during this interview, did president trump direct you to make that payment? did he promise in advance to reimburse you? here's what he had to say. i want to answer. one day i will answer. but for now, i can't comment
