making news in america this morning, the miracle in the cave. the 12 boys trapped underground deep inside this flooded cave are found alive. >> how many of you? >> all. >> 13. >> right now the work to rescue them begins. why it could take months to get them out and the new option rescue teams are considering as they face rising floodwaters. we'll take you to the scene. new overnight, abc news learning who president trump has interviewed so far as he narrows down the potential nominees to replace supreme court justice anthony kennedy. the women now being considered and what role abortion rights will play. growing outrage after an american shows off the rare giraffe that she shot and killed in africa. this morning how she's defending her hunt amid a fierce backlash online.

those stories, plus, regular versus decaf. which kind of coffee can help you live longer? according to a new study, does it matter if you drink instant versus ground cover if i? and vacation bliss. eye-opening evidence that americans need a vacation and just how hard it is for us to unplug. we do say good morning on this tuesday, everyone. i'm kendis gibson. >> and i'm maggie rulli in for diane macedo. we begin with the hard work being planned right now to rescue 12 boys and their soccer coach who are trapped deep inside a flooded cave in thailand. >> the race is on to deliver food and supplies to the group, but the options to bring them to the surface are far more complicated and could take weeks or months. thai officials are racing against time. the 12 boys aged 11 to 16 and coach have been underground since june 23rd when floodwaters trapped them. then they were found alive. >> how many of you?

>> they're all alive. >> 13? >> yes. >> brilliant. >> a british dive team finding them about two miles inside the cave flex. now thai authorities are considering how to get them out. they say one option is to coach the group to swim using special breathing masks. meantime, on the surface efforts to drain water from the cave continue and the teams are searching for possible alternate entrances or exits. >> if they are in a place in the cave that is safe from further flooding, then the safest option is to just keep supplying them in the cave with food and the ability to purify water and wait for the flooding to abate or for the bump the to draw it down enough to come out through dry passage. >> the boys and their coach have been medically evaluated and most are in stable condition. some have suffered minor injuries. a medic was with them overnight. experts say the group managed to survive for so long underground because of the warm temperature inside the cave and because

they've been drinking fresh water that seeps through cracks in the rock. >> we just got the news that the buyers have been found. >> abc's james longman at the cave site. he spoke with a rescue diver who's been inside the cave. >> what's it been like in the cave? >> the first day was hard and i had very little hope in getting through because it was raining a lot and it was very hard and it was like pulling hand over hand and it was like diving in cafe latte. i had no hope of making it that far but as they installed more pumps and the rain got a little less and visibility got better and today the visibility was -- you could almost drink the water. >> family members are outside the cave entrance waiting for news and americans are part of the 1,000-person strong international rescue effort. >> we're going to come together to figure out what the best possible solution is and kind of be able to get the kids out as safely and quickly as possible. >> heavy rain expected any day

now and that will make getting everyone out safely that much harder. and the rainy season in thailand lasts until september or october. that raises the possibility of having to send food and supplies into the cave for three or four months. here at home president trump is wasting no time lining up potential nominees who could cement the conservative majority of the supreme court. overnight we learned the names of the four judges he met with on monday. two more interviews could take place at the white house as early as today and roe v. wade is at the center of the fight. abc's kenneth moton has been following all this in washington. good morning, kenneth. >> reporter: good morning, maggie. president trump is moving fast to make his second supreme court pick since taking office and the white house is moving staff around to prepare for what is likely to be a battle on capitol hill. today president trump's supreme court short list. >> they are outstanding people and they are really incredible people in so many different way, academically and so many other ways. >> reporter: the president met

with four potentials face-to-face. all are circuit judges for the court of appeals ranging in age from their late 40s to early 50s and sources tell abc news as early as today trump plans to meet with two more including thomas hardiman who came in a second to neil gorsuch last year and joan larsen which would make her the second woman to meet with the president to potentially replace retiring justice anthony kennedy. >> i am putting pro-life justices on the court. >> reporter: during the 2016 campaign, candidate trump promised to appoint justices who would overturn the landmark abortion case roe v. wade but now -- >> as the president said last week, he is not going to talk to judges about specific cases. he's looking for individuals that have the right intellect, the right temperament and will uphold the constitution. >> reporter: press secretary : sarah sanders also announced white house counsel don mcgahn will once again oversee the selection and confirmation process. and principal deputy secretary raj shah will leave his role to oversee communications and

strategy for the president's supreme court nominee. the white house is gearing up for a fight in the senate where there is that slim gop majority. the big decision from the president is expected to be made this week. his supreme court nominee announcement monday. maggie and kendis. >> a lot of people will be paying attention to that. kenneth motor in washington, d.c., thank you. a new ruling could deliver, in the meantime, a major blow to president trump's immigration crackdown. a federal judge in washington has ordered the government to immediately release or grant hearings to more than 1,000 asylum seekers who have been jailed for as long as two years. the judge said i.c.e. must be held accountable for its own policy, which requires a court hearing within seven days for those applying for asylum. president trump's former personal attorney and fixer now says he has other priorities than protecting the president adding to speculation he may be ready to flip on the president. during an exclusive interview with george stephanopoulos, michael cohen said he now puts his family and his country

first. his business dealings are being in through files seized during raids on his home and offices. cohen has not been charged with any crime. his newly hired attorney is expected to take over his case in the coming days. such a sad scene overnight at a vigil for the victims of the idaho birthday party stabbing rampage. 1,500 people crowded the steps of boise's city hall. hours earlier the 3-year-old who was celebrating her birthday during the attack at her apartment complex died from her injuries. the suspect made his first court appearance on monday as well. police say he carried out the attack because he was angry about being thrown out of that apartment building for bad behavior. now we turn to weather and the heat wave gripping the midwest and the east is expected to run through the end of the week. meanwhile, the fire threat is growing in the west. more than 100 homes have now been destroyed by a wildfire in southern colorado. late evening thunderstorms s fl. let's take a look now at the

we're back with the dramatic scene in south carolina. students were trapped on this burning bus returning from summer camp. the driver pulled over too close to the guardrail preventing a quick escape while the bus filled with smoke. trip organizers managed to open the emergency exits and bystanders stopped to help pull th one escaped through the windows. now an ohio man has been charged with plotting an attack on cleveland's fourth of july parade. authorities say demetrius pitts pledged allegiance to al qaeda and scouted landmarks in cleveland. they say he spoke about setting off bombs at the parade, discussing the plan with an undercover agent and they say he

wanted to carry out an attack in philadelphia. overseas, a diplomat was among four arrested for an alleged terror plot in france. two other suspects, a husband and wife team, were picked up in belgium. authorities say the couple had a high-power explosive in their vehicle. they were allegedly planning to bomb an iranian opposition rally. the event was attended by president trump's lawyer, rudy giuliani, and newt gingrich. the secretary of state mike pompeo is heading back to north korea on thursday to meet with kim jong-un, just three weeks, of course, after kim's historic summit with president trump. the meeting comes as satellite images indicate the north may actually be moving forward with its nuclear missile program. experts warn a u.s. plan to rid the korean peninsula of nuclear weapons in one year is unrealistic. disgraced hollywood producer harvey weinstein is facing new criminal charges that could lead to a sentence of life in prison. a third accuser has now been revealed as a grand jury in manhattan handed down a new indictment accusing weinstein of

posting their own shame on you's on instagram with joy in her black heart and a beaming smile she lies next to the dead carcass of a rare black giraffe in south africa, how dare she. it's the latest example of viral reaction from social media where anger and trolling often lurk. who can forget cecil the lion killed during a hunt in 2016 which minnesota dentist walter palmer. like talley's giraffe hunt, palmer's hunt was a lawful killing but after online shaming, he was hunted down by animal cruelty opponents. talley released this statement to abc overnight, claiming her hunt was part of conservation efforts. the giraffe i hunted was the south african subspecies of giraffe. she explained the giraffe she killed was old and had already killed three younger giraffes and now that the older giraffe was dead, the population of its herd would increase. she calls it conservation through game management. we'll have more reaction coming up on "good morning america." we're hearing for the first time from survivors of a deadly tour bus explosion in the bahamas. a 39-year-old mother from tennessee celebrating her

anniversary with her husband was killed when the boat burst into flames. another passenger haiden jones was traveling with his family and his girlfriend brooke and described the moment it all happened. >> i heard a loud explosion and i was shot up and i don't know if i hit the ceiling or something, but i landed, and i hit something. i rose to my feet and i saw brooke in front of me and i looked around. i saw the man on the ground with his foot kind of twisted in the opposite direction. >> nine others were seriously injured including haidin's 22-year-old sister, a dancer, who lost both of her legs. another survivor told us that she believes the gas tank exploded. investigators are trying to figure out exactly what took place. the white house has denied a request to fly flags at half-staff in honor of the five people killed in the maryland newspaper massacre. the mayor of annapolis says he's disappointed by the denial and views last week's shooting

rampage at the "capital gazette" as an attack on the freedom of the press. flags have been lowered for other recent mass shootings. so far no comment from the white house. we have a health alert for women who work long hours. researchers have found that women who consistently worked 45 hours a week or more had a 63% higher risk of getting diabetes. that's compared with women who worked fewer hours. the risk was not found in men. doctors suggest the stress combined with the extra work women do at home could explain the difference. in sports now, one day after the news about lebron james, another big move in the nba. the defending champion golden state warriors have added four-time all-star demarcus cousins to their roster. cousins is recovering from a torn achilles. and at the world cup, brazil's neymar gave his team the lead against mexico, but their quarterfinal will be remembered for his academy award quality acting after bei foul >> he looks like he's hurt.

comfortable 71 at 7:00. more on the fire in the increase in sunshine and less smoke in the forecast. >> good morning. we're off to a fairly quiet start. of course, we have construction season in full here, and some overnight paving probably going to slow you down. multiple lanes closed. it did wrap up a little ahead of schedule and all lanes are back open, but that's a slow line of red approaching where we had the lane closure. 5 miles per hour, 7 miles per hour, approaching. hopefully that cleared early enough that we can bounce back. >> thank you. >> some bay area fire departments say they can't seem to catch a break. >> they're already feeling if strain of this year's fire season and it's barely begun. amy hollyfield is live for us in marin county. amy. >> hi, good morning, reggie. marin county fire departments are stretched thin. they say they have been hoping

for a break and they're not catching one. marin county has had firefighters up north fighting fires since last week. they have been on the flat fire, the county fire, and the ponty fire. this is early with fire chiefs telling our media partner the marin independent journal that last season ran late. this one is early, and that's just the break they're not getting. they said they had firefighters down south until december of last year. and they still have some firefighters who are out with injuries from that season. and now this season is very active and very early. the big push right now from these fire departments is to remind everyone here at home in marin county, no fireworks are allowed in this county. and there will be zero tolerance. zero tolerance policy will be in effect. they want to point out that there have been two red flag warnings in the last ten days. again, that is very early for this time of year. so the risk of fire is high.

and they want people to be aware heading into this july 4th holiday. reporting live, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you. speaking of that, the huge wildfire in yolo county has grown so much, people in napa county are already getting ready to evacuate. >> the communities of bear eesa highlands and pleasure cove resort have been put on notice. the county fire is at 60,000 acres, nearly doubling in size on monday. it's now 5% contained. 116 structures remain threatened with many areas under evacuation order or advisory. another 1,000 firefighters have been added to the front line. business owners in the effected area say this is not the holiday they were hin for. >> we were hoping with fourth of july on a wednesday, this whole week would give us a bump, but obviously with the fire, it's not happening. >> firefighters told the press democrat they hope to have the fire contained by july 10th. >> a satellite has picked up the vast amount of smo
