and they want people to be aware heading into this july 4th holiday. reporting live, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you. speaking of that, the huge wildfire in yolo county has grown so much, people in napa county are already getting ready to evacuate. >> the communities of bear eesa highlands and pleasure cove resort have been put on notice. the county fire is at 60,000 acres, nearly doubling in size on monday. it's now 5% contained. 116 structures remain threatened with many areas under evacuation order or advisory. another 1,000 firefighters have been added to the front line. business owners in the effected area say this is not the holiday they were hin for. >> we were hoping with fourth of july on a wednesday, this whole week would give us a bump, but obviously with the fire, it's not happening. >> firefighters told the press democrat they hope to have the fire contained by july 10th. >> a satellite has picked up the vast amount of smoke from the

fire. you can see it in the images from the national weather service for the bay area. the marine layer kept most of the air pollution at the higher elevations yesterday, so that's why you didn't see the hazy skies like we did over the weekend. >> it's 4:31. if you're just joining us or headed out the door, here's a quick update on weather and traffic with mike nicco. >> thank you very much. good morning. here's another look at the satellite. remember the wind shift we talked about yesterday? it happened. look at the smoke towards the end of the afternoon into the early evening hours start to push more to the east than down to the south. so yeah, while the marine layer kept a lower layer clean with all the fresh air coming over the ocean, the upper parts of the atmosphere did their trick. now, they're starting to blow out of the north once again, so we could see a little haze early today and then during the evening hours, look at the winds. they come out of the southwest. that means they blow to the northeast. and they pick up speed, which is good for evacuating the smoke from our neighborhoods but it's not good for the fiefrs as it

will keep feeding fresh oxygen into the fire. right now, all of our air quality, all of our neighborhoods, it's fine. it should be later on this afternoon. no spare the air today. here's alexis. >> all right, mike. we're doing pretty well so far for the tuesday morning drive. of course, lighter volumes all week due to the fourth of july holiday. looking at emeryville westbound 80, folks heading towards the maze, no slowdowns and no metering lights. we should have an hour, maybe under that ubtle they're turned on. highway 680, 6 minutes. this is our slow spot, unfortunately, already 20, 30-minute delay out of tracy due to earlier road work that wrapped, but tracy to dublic, 1:09. >> we could learn whether both defendants in the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire have agreed to plea deals. >> their attorneyed met behind closed doors with the judge yesterday afternoon.

>> attorneys for the defendants in the criminal case of the ghost ship fire left the judge's chambers. the meeting lasted no more than a half hour. the judge has ordered everyone to keep quiet. >> has a plea agreement been reached. >> we can't talk. >> the bay area news group is reporting a plea deal has been reached in exchange to no contest to involuntary manslaught manslaughter, derrick almena would be sentenced to nine years and jail, and derrick harris would be sentenced to six years. >> a death of 36 people, that's a horrible tragedy. what the judge is saying is this is a criminal negligence case. no one wanted this to happen. >> steven clark also says the reported plea deal indicates that the judge likely acknowledges that others are responsible for the 2016 fire, including the city of oakland, which let the ghostship operate without the proper permits despite the fire trap conditions inside. >> because the criminal case is

settling, the civil case against the landlord and other governmental entities can now move forward. that can bring restitution to the victims' families. >> a plea deal would avoid a jury trial which is scheduled to begin july 16th and would last up to four months. lilian kim, abc 7 news. >> we thank lillian for that. be the first to know if a deal is reached by downloading our news app. we'll also bring you the verdict on abc 7 news and online at abc7news.com. >> now, a live desk update. >> i want to show you these live images coming in because this morning, officials in thailand are racing against time to rescue a youth soccer team and their coach. this is a live look at the rescuers just outside where they're trying to perform this rescue. you see some activity there. make no mistake, this is going to be a very long process. it could take several months. i want to show you video from overnight as well. they have already been underground since june 23rd when

floodwaters trapped them there, and now rescuers are supplying them with four months worth of food. hoping that water levels eventually go down. officials say one option is to get them out is to have them swim out so they're going to coach them using special breathing masks. they're also looking for some alternate entrances or exits. >> if they're in a place in the cave that is safe from further flooding, then the safest option is to just keep supplying them in the cave with food and of the ability to purify water. and wait for the flooding to abate or for the pumps to draw it down enough for them to come out through dry passage. >> the kids have all been medically evaluated. most are stable. some have minor injuries. heavy rain is expected in that area again any day now, and of course, we'll continue to watch the live images coming in. >> hard to imagine them being down there for months. >> yeah, it really is an incredibly long time. this is just the beginning.

>> so young. thank you. the federal investigation into facebook's sharing of user data with cambridge analytica has now expanded. "theashington postxcng commission, and the federal trade commission are now involved. they join the justice department's probe into why facebook did not disclose tens of millions of users had their data improperly accesses by cambridge analytica. facebook says it's cooperating with the investigation. >> a san mateo county judge has thrown out the case against a former ceo of a prominent start-up. he was charged with sexually abusing his young children. chis is video of him entering court. he was accused of sexually abusing his 1-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son. in a statement, he said those closest to me knew i was innocent and were confident all of the charges would be dismissed. he said he's grateful for the support of his family and looks forward to spending quality time with them. >> berkeley police are alerting neighbors of a rash of car

break-ins. thieves hit 35 cars in the weekend in the five areas indicated with the red dot on the map. they're all on the northern part of the city and the thieve either smashed a window or got in through an unlocked door. the burglaries happened saturday and sunday night. >> you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. let's look at what's going on. oh, temperature wise, we'll start in san francisco. where temperatures run from sunny side at 52, 53 to about 55 most of our neighborhoods. financial is 56, coming through the ferry building, 57 degrees. let's look around the rest of our neighborhoods. tracy at 62. everybody else pretty much in the mid to upper 50s. daley city, about 51 degrees. here's a look at the western span of the bay bridge. you can see traffic coming at us from the east. another good day commuting weather wise. dry all day. a little choppy this afternoon north of the bay bridge. the north bay ferries could

jostle just a little bit. and mass transit cool this morning but warm this afternoon. let's take a look at the east bay valleys where we have 62. 70 at 10:00, nearing 80 at noon and hang out in the low to mid 80s in the afternoon hours dropping down to 70 by 8:00. san francisco is going to take longer to see sunshine today, up until noon. we'll start to break out and that's when temperatures will hit the 60s. we'll be in the mid 60s in the afternoon hours. clouds coming back at 8 cloo:00. in the south bay, sunshine by 10:00. mid 70s by noon. and hanging out in the upper 70s during the afternoon hours. nothing too taxing as far as the weather forecast goes. even cooler weather tomorrow before big warming trend comes our way. maybe 100s again. >> whoa. >> yeah. hopefully everybody's reaction is ooh and not oh, mean, mad. >> we never would blame you, mike, i promise that. we're doing okay on the road so far this morning. we are looking at our traffic maps right now. really, just one little spot of red so far today out of the

central valley. if you're leaving tracy, well, it's getting better closer to where we had road work near north flynn road. all lanes did open up about ten minutes ago. we definitely have some residual delays. 8 miles per hour up to 47 miles per hour as you get closer to altamont pass. hopefully that will thin out as you get out of the tracy area, but we'll see. you can use mass transit. tomorrow, no service due to the holiday. bay bridge toll plaza, still looking good here. a tiny stack-up in the cash lanes on the left. everyone else looking okay. not expecting the metering light on until 5:25 to 5:30. next traffic update in ten minutes. >> california lawmakers passed a 12-year ban on new soda taxes. but they may not have the last word. >> only on abc 7 news, the reunion between a retiring police officer and the canine partner he thought he may never see again. >> why w

coliseum station and the powell, 24th street, and balboa park stations. another rider lent his phone to a stranger and the stranger took off with it. so b.a.r.t. says keep your devices secure. especially as you stand near doors and on the platforms. an update this morning to a storey we first told you about over the weekend. an error had kept a retiring san francisco police oficer from returning home with his canine partner. >> this morning, they're bag together. wayne has a video of the reunion you'll only see on 7. >> hold on for one moment. park in the parking lot and come up to the third floor. >> for retired sfpd officer val kerw kerwin, the retirement he planned shouldn't have gone like this. the waiting felt not like heaven but like something from a bad dream. >> last couple days there was unknown. >> that's the man whose story went viral when his double retirement with barrow, his partner and explosive sniffing dog did not go according to planned.

freedman, abc 7 news. >> show me a dog reunion and i am a happy girl. >> i love a hound. so cute. >> all right, happening today, richmond will be holding its annual independence day celebration. it takes place at marina bay park and draws thousands of people. things get started at 5:30 leading up to the fireworks at 9:15. the festival is free. it features food and live music. if you're going, be prepared to deal with heavy traffic along the waterfront. >> it's been about a year since taco bell started hosting weddings at its cantina restaurant in las vegas. now they're giving their fans more to celebrate. they're launching their own line of wedding accessories. that's right, if you need a garter or a bow tie or maybe a champagne glass, well, just go to the company's website. the chapel inside the las vegas cantina has hosted 60 marriages so far. >> so, who's getting married

and that's when the dangerous surf develops also. here's a look at the cloud cast for today. it will keep increasing through about 9:00. and then by noon, it will still be hanging around the bay. maybe not quite as much as it was yesterday. but it will still be there, especially between the san mateo bridge and also the bay bridge. but back at the coast, you can see in the north bay, that's where we'll have the thinnest cloud cover this afternoon. peninsula coast, the thickest cloud cover. let's look at temperatures today. and we're in the mid to upper 70s most of the south bay with san jose at 78. then near 80 at los gatos, morgan hill, and gilroy. cloud cover in santa cruz and 67. 68 in millbrae. upper 50s along the coast to barely 60 in the sunset. mid 60s in downtown and south san francisco. and then we'll have upper 70s to low 80s through most of the north bay. mid 80s, santa rosa, to 92 in ukiah. and as we move to our east bay valley, 79 to about 86 degrees. tonight's temperatures will hang

out in the 50s once again with a lot of cloud cover, even a little drizzle near the coast. my seven-day forecast, mainly 60s and 70s tomorrow, but look at saturday, our hottest day. here's alexis with a look at the morning commute. >> we're looking at a very light commute on the san mateo bridge. westbound 92, not going to have a lot of company if you're heading out now. and the closer we get to the fourth of july, the fewer vehicles we'll see out, at least in the early morning hours. not a lot of folks working this week. checking out mass transit, looking ahead to fourth of july tomorrow. b.a.r.t. will operate on a sunday schedule. san francisco bay ferry will be operating on a holiday schedule, and ace rail will not be operating. no trains for ace tomorrow. we'll take a look at drive times just before 5:00. >> thanks. a big oops from facebook. >> a bug unblocked people that had -- that users had blocked. >> in today's tech bites,

facebook admits to a major screw-up. unblocked former friends without their permission. >> for eight days, a bug temporarily let some users who had been blocked send messages to the people who blocked them as well as letting them view their posts. >> and instagram is offering a new way to keep you up to date with all of your friends' new pictures and videos. >> it's a message you'll receive when you have scrolled past all of your friends' posts from the past two days. instagram says it will help you have a better understanding of your feed. >> and yelp has won a free speech victory. the california supreme court says the online review site cannot be ordered to remove unflattering posts. >> the court said removing negative reviews could undermine yelp's viability. a law firm had sued claiming defamation. >> those are your tech bites. >> have a great day. >> sears is closing dozens more stores and a bay area location is on the list. >> it's not just the added stress.

sears holdings is the parent company of both sears and kmart. it's closed 500 stores in the last year and a half because of steep losses. >> well, if you're a woman who works overtime, new research finds you may be increasing your risk of diabetes. the study out of canada looked at thousands of records and found women who work overtime or more than 45 hours a week were 62% more likely to get diabetes. strangely, the risk decreased in men who worked overtime. the researcher thinks this is because many women have unpaid hours. household tasks, child care, on top of work. researchers say there is hope. you can talk to your doctor about more frequent screenings and take care of diet and exercise to help lower your risk. the study in is in the journal. >> four people have futures to look forward to thanks to the jeperosity of a north carolina woman. tracy schmidts didn't think twice about donating her kidney to a total stranger. she was moved to donate after

reading a friend's facebook post about her daughter needing a kidney. she wasn't a match, so she decided to find someone who was. that led her to george adams. >> i know somebody was dying and they needed one. i didn't think twice about it. >> i call her my sister. we're brothers and sisters now, because we're always connected. >> it makes me feel great, but i'm happier for him and his family. >> there's no way of repaying her. you know, she is an amazing person to do that. >> adams was diagnosed with kidney disease 15 years ago and on the wait list about nine months. tracy's gift didn't stop with him. her donation inspired four other people to donate kidneys including adams' wife. >> you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. let me get a mulligan on the start time for the a's game, it's 6:05. let's talk about what's going on. a sliply lope we're sliding down of reversing these temperatures going below average by about 1

15 minutes. >> lyft is now getting into the bike sharing business. it has acquired motivate, but you would probably not know that name, but you will know this. they operate the for go bike frahm we see all over the area. lyft's rival uber has acquired jump bikes. they did that in april. both companies are hoping to be one stop shops to get you to your destination by all sorts of means. and a growing problem in san jose. >> oh, well, neighbors say they're fed up with that sort of screeching tires on their streets. what police are doing to try to stop the street racing. stop the street racing. >> uc berkeley settles
