i.c.e. which is cruel and inhumane, which oppressed migrant communities, which only existed since 2003 and we want these things to stop that are being done in our names. >> in the east bay, more controversy. cameras were rolling when congressman jeff denham rang the bell at a shelter for immigrant children in pleasant hill. nobody opened the door, but someone from the facility let him know he would not be able to go inside. facility is run by the nonprofit southwest key program, and is housing 25 teenage immigrants. two girls at the shelter have been separated from their parents. >> the apartment of hhs and let our counterparts at the white house know we were coming. >> what i have been told by them is they had no prior knowledge. >> denham says since this is a federally funded facility, he wants transparency, he wants congress to work to keep families together at the border. reporting live in san francisco, mat cellar. >> thank you. >> we're tracking developing news on the wildfire burning in

napa, lake, and yolo counties. >> cal fire says the county fire has burned 60,000 acres. that's twice the size of san francisco. it is only 5% contained. and last night, officials sent out new evacuation adviseries. they effect bear eesa highlands, markly cove resort, and pleasure cove resort. cal fire says residents or visitors in these areas should be ready to live immediately if conditions get worse. >> and fire crews in lake county say the pawnee wildfire is 75% contained now. it started ten days ago. it's burned nearly 15,000 acres. the fire has destroyed at least 22 buildings, many homes included there. about 50 buildings are still threatened and there's still a mandatory evacuation order in effect for the community of double eagle. >> governor brown has announced plans to improve disaster preparedness. >> after last year's historic fire season, a conference committee will discuss new rules for utilities that could include removing vegetation near power lines and shutting off power for

a short time in extreme weather. they're also going to look at making sure those responsibility for wildfires are held responsible financially. utilities services would also be required to provide updated fire prevngz plans. >> while side shows usually happen in the middle of the night, they're starting to pop in in the day. chp has specialized training for their officers. agencies also have plans to meet every other quarter to put the brakes on this bad habit. in the future, it could connect car clubs. >> the community is essential, is important in helping us find out what the street racers are and prevent any loss of life. >> he says officers have responded to several side show calls this year. they have been successful in stopping attempt said freeway takeovers. >> the search is on for a gunman who killed a security officer.

rolando was shot in the last hour of his shift yesterday morning. police are reviewing surveillance video from neighbor cameras to try to identify the killer. he worked hard to support his family in the philippines. she says he was a dedicated husband and father. >> inongoing concerns about people who are homeless and drug use in san francisco have spilled over into the convention industry. >> the san francisco travel association says a medical group from chicago is canceling future conventions because its members don't feel safe here. it's booked for this year, as well as 2023, but they say that's going to be it. there's a fear that other groups may take notice and consider different locations for their conventions. >> if people start talking about san francisco in a negative way like that, we have great concern and great concern about the future long-term impact. >> conventions are a lucrative business for san francisco, pumping in $1.7 billion into the local economy. the travel association says it's

i we worked with pg&eof to save energy because wenie. wanted to help the school. they would put these signs on the door to let the teacher know you didn't cut off the light. the teachers, they would call us the energy patrol. so they would be like, here they come, turn off your lights! those three young ladies were teaching the whole school about energy efficiency. we actually saved $50,000. and that's just one school, two semesters, three girls. together, we're building a better california.

another reason why you should probably leave the fourth of july fireworks to the professionals. abc 7 news visited the country costa fire county protection and training center. they showed us how safe fireworks can burn clothing. they say fireworks can also damage homes and businesses. firefighters also say do not try to create your own pyrotechnics display. >> so go and see the professionals do their thing. there's more than 60 fourth of july celebrations happening

tomorrow through the bay area. you can find a link to every one of them right now. just look at the top of abc7news.com and click on the full story as you see there, and you can also find these on our news app. >> drivers for uber and lyft could get an hourly minimum wage. a report called for a $17.22 wage after expenses for new york drivers. researchers say the proposed pay is necessary because driving is a full-time job for many of these individuals. and they're also pushing for a $1 per pickup bonus for shared rides. fares would increase only by 5% or less and wait times would increase only by 12 to 15 second. >> uc berkeley going to make it easier for campus groups to operate on campus as part of a settlement. young americans of libt aert accused the school of violating its right. they applied for formal recognition but they were told to discuss a merger with another

group because they had similar viewpoints. that's when the group decided to take the school to court. cal will change its rules for recognizing campus groups. >> 6:15 now. it's been a wild start to the nba free agency, and the latest plot twist took just about everyone by surprise. >> all-star center demarcus cousins has agreed to sign with the warriors. here's who's in and who's out. cousins agreed to a one year, $5.3 million deal. that's a major discount, as he is recovering from a torn achilles. kevin durant also confirmed he's staying in town. neither can officially sign until thursday night. so who is out? well, center javale mcgee left for the lakers on sunday night. as for cousins, mark spears reports not one team reached out to sign the 27-year-old. so he had his agent contact the warriors. cousins is considered one of the best centers in the league, and steph welcomed him to the team, tweeting third splash brother. let's go. >> that's wonderful.

suburb when the golden retriever bolted next to his owner's leg, and then she heard the rattle. next thing she knew, the snake struck, catching the dog right in the face. >> poor todd, you know. i felt so bad because he started to cry right away. and as a dog owner, that is heartbreaking. >> she picked up the dog and rushed him back to the truck and says that the pet was already starting to swell from the bite. you could see his face. they made it to the vet within ten minutes. they got him started on an antivenom. the arizona diamondbacks baseball team took notice of the story and has invited todd to walk on the field this sunday as part of its heroes week. but isn't that -- i mean, how many cats would position themselves between you and a rattlesnake, mike nicco? >> whoa. >> not trying to pick a fight, but something really special about dogs. >> we're going to have a dog and cat battle right now? >> something really special.

east bay shore with 75 in fremont. peninsula today will go from mostly cloudy to sunny, and we'll start to jump up into the 70s away from millbrae where we'll be at 68, and along the coast, upper 50s there. as we head down into the south bay, 58 this morning under a partly cloudy sky. jumping up to near 80 by 4:00. especially around places like los gatos, morgan hill, and gilroy. in the north bay, more cloudiness, 57. but sunshine this afternoon. you can see temperatures in the mid 70s to about 80 degrees. in our east bay valleys, look at this. if you didn't use the air conditioner yesterday, you probably won't need it today. 79 to 86. my seven-day forecast, more clouds tonight. a slight chance of drizzle near the coast, and in the east bay. and that will lock us into a cooler afternoon. now, see the temperatures jump thursday? and especially our hottest day for the third week in a row, will be saturday. >> good morning, mike. we do have one new issue to talk about, this is on the peninsula.

for prime members, is now set for july 16th and it's expanded from 30 to 36 hours. also, they'll be doing discounts to whole foods stores across the country. amazon is hoping to lure more people to its prime membership after a recent fee hike. it's now $119 a year. amazon says last year's prime day was its biggest sales day ever. >> really bizarre story. the gender wage gap starts at home. >> listen to this new study. it found boys earn more than girls even before they set foot in the workplace. on average, boys earl double the amount girls earn for doing chores. it also appeared parents gave boys more opportunity to do chores. researchers crunched their database numbers and found parents not only paid boys more, but they awarded them lr bonuses. nightmare.in you smartphone pho

no. here's a look at live doppler 7, gusting to 31 at fairfield, and 16 in oakland, 10 at concord. even though we're going to have more sunshine, as you can see the broken deck of clouds, the gray is the cloud cover. not as solid as yesterday. we're going to get tempered by the sea breeze. temperatures the same as they have been all week. it's tuesday. mid tuper 50s pretty much all last week too. around the coast, around 60 today with a lot of cloud cover and a little bit of sunshine. 68 to 74, bay and inland at snoon. 76 to 82, below average at 4:00, and a nice evening, around 70. alexis, where's your fanny pack? >> wouldn't be caught dead with that thing, mike. sorry. that thing is long gone. taking a look at the roads, onef our only issues so far is on the peninsula, southbound 101 before state route 92. we have reports of an suv that flipped over. fire department is there. not sure if they have been able to get the driver out of the vehicle. initially, it sounded like someone may be trapped in the vehicle. so i'll have an update on that

as soon as i have more information. in the meantime, we have filled in at the bay bridge toll plaza. metering lights on exactly one hour ago. not light everywhere, just most area. also a crash on highway 17. >> thanks. some bay area fire departments say they can't seem to catch a break. >> they are already feeling the strain of this year's fire season, and it's barely begun. reporter amy hollyfield is live for us in larkspur. >> good morning. firefighters here in marin county really want to emphasize this holiday that fireworks are not allowed here. it's against the law here in marin county. they say the conditions are so dry, they really want people to remember this law. and also to keep in mind that all of the fires going on right now are really straining resources. look at these numbers. this is according to our media partner, the marin independent journal. marin county has sent 76 firefighters, 10 fire engines, and a bulldozer to fight fires this season.

they point out this is very early and already very intense. they headed north last week and have been on the front lines of the flat fire, the county, and the pawnee fires. they say june isn't even considered the busy time, and considered that last season ran long, they had crews down in southern california until december. so they're really hoping for a break and say it just isn't happening. so they're turning to the public and saying please give them a break, and remember, fireworks are not allowed. they will be watching. they'll have zero tolerance for sure. reporting live, amy hollyfield. >> thank you, amy. >> now let's talk more about the huge wildfire in yolo county. it's grown so much, people in napa county are told to get ready to evacuate. >> the communities have all been put on notice now. the county fire is now at 60,000 acres. it nearly doubled in size on monday. the fire is 5% contained.

116 structures remain threatened with many areas under evacuation order or advisory. business owners in the affected area say this is not the holiday they were hoping for. >> we were hoping with fourth of july being on a wednesday, this whole week would give us a bump. but obviously, with the fire, it's not happening. >> firefighters told the press democrat they hope to have the fire contained by july 10th. >> a satellite has picked up a vast amount of smoke from the fire. you can see it in the images from the national weather service for the bay area. the marine layer kept most of the sooty air population up at higher elevations yesterday. that's why didn't see the orange skies like we saw over the weekend. going to turn now to the ghost ship fire. and we could learn today if both defendants are going to agree to plea deals. >> that's right, the bay area news group reports a plea deal has been reached. in exchange for no contest to involuntary manslaughter, derrick almena, the master 10

police chase in seattle yesterday. see that little dog in the middle of the freeway. yes, that whitefurball took police on a wild adventure during morning rush hour on monday. traffic cameras caught all the action as police and even some drivers tried to capture the loose pup, and eventually, the dog became tuckered out. he ran into a group of bushes and officials found it about three hours after the chase began. that dog is okay. he's safe at a seattle animal shelter. and if no one comes forward, the pup will be put up for adoption. >> ran his little heart out. three hours. >> i know. he got a little workout. i used to do traffic in seattle, as you know, before i came here. the 520 bridge, he ran all the way across lake washington. that's a toll bridge, too. there were folks yesterday on twitter saying hello, did he have his good to go pass, did he pay his toll? >> if you're going to run across the bridge, too, not that we recommend it, i guess we'll give you a pass. >> yes, we'll waive that fee. >> a lot of exercise. >> we're not done with great dog

hey, i was just about to say that. here's a look at the visible satellite from yesterday. as we talked about yesterday, the winds would shift and start blowing the smoke off towards the east. you can see it doing it as we head to sunset at 8:30. that means, well, we're not going to see as much smoke today, even though we have a northerly component to the wind, then it kicks in in the afternoon hours out of the south and becoming very gusty once again. temperatures the next four days very conducive to fighting the fire, and starting saturday, back in the mid to upper 90s. 100 in fresno and palm springs. let me show utah hyou in tahoe. you can see the smoke is making its way there and is going to be there for at least the next two days. >> now a live desk update. >> this morning, officials in thailand racing against the clock to rescue a youth soccer

team and their coach. rescue going to take a very long time, and where want to show you these new images we got overnight. they have been underground since june 23rd when floodwaters trapped them and now rescuers are supplying them with four months worth of food. that happened while you were sleeping. they're hoping water levels go down, but they might not so they're going to need supplies. and officials say one option to get the kids out is to teach them how to swim using special breathing masks. they're also looking for alternate entrances and exits. >> if they are in a place in the cave that is safe from further flooding, then the safest option is to just keep supplying them in the cave with food and of the ability to purify water, and wait for the flooding to abate or for the pumps to draw it down enough for them to come out through dry passage. >> so although we have these images of the kids, we do know they have been medically evaluated. most of them are stable.

congressman jeff denham went to a shelter for immigration children in pleasant hill. it's housing 25 teenage immigrants. two girls at the shelter have been separated from their parents. nobody opened the door but someone from the facility let him know he would not be able to go inside. denham says he wants congress to work to keep families together at the border. reporting live here in san francisco, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> now, breaking news from the abc 7 live desk. >> and that breaking news i want to slow you this brand-new photo that we just received. this is rolando ramiro. he was killed early yesterday morning while working as a security guard at a construction project right near candlestick point in san francisco. his sister says he worked hard to support his family in the philippines. she says he was a dedicated husband and dpaurth. again, let's take a look at that victim, just getting the photo in to our live desk a few seconds ago. so far, no arrests in this case. the police right now reviewing surveillance video to try to identify ramiro's killer.

"the washington post" reports the fbi, security and exchange commission, and the federal trade commission are now involved. they join the justice department's probe into why facebook did not disclose that tens of millions of users had their data improperly accesses by cambridge analytica. facebook says it's cooperating with the investigation. >> 6:48 now. and police are reminding neighbors in one sonoma county neighborhood to watch out for mountain lions, after a big cat was spotted in someone's backyard. it happened in sebastopol friday morning. the mountain lion was seen milling around after climbing a fence near florence avenue. officers responded and didn't find the animal. >> fire in moraga -- firefighters in moraga are watching for flare-ups from a
