holiday light out of the central valley westbound 580, tracy to dublin, 25 minutes. >> thank you so much. happening now, a group is spending july 4th exercising their right to protest the government. >> the san francisco version of occupy i.c.e. continues today as members of the demonstration camp overnight at the city's immigration office. abc 7 news reporter katie utehs is live. >> reporter: the protest has spilled on to the street at this point. protesters seem well stocked and no signs of leaving. they are here fort long haul. there is an sfpd patrol car down the street making sure everything stays peaceful and today, yes, they are having an independence day july 4th themed block i.c.e. block party. this occupy i.c.e. protest started monday at the u.s. immigration and customs enforcement building on washington street in san francisco. they've blocked entrances on jackson street, protesters have set up encampment at i.c.e. buildings acr the country following a weekend of marches

in reaction to the administraion's family separation policy. >> many message we're calling for an end to deportations and the abolition of i.c.e., an organization that is cruel and inhumane that oppresses migrant communities and which has only existed since 2003 and we want these things to stop that are being done in our names. >> reporter: i.c.e. released a statement yesterday saying the agency respects the right to protest but that it will follow federal law and agency policy. the block i.c.e. block party event starts at noon today. organizers say it's not a celebration for the fourth of july. instead, it's a celebration of resistance. now they are invitiniting peopl bring camping supplies and join them here on washington. live in san francisco, katie utehs, abc 7. 4:33 now. the ghost ship fire defendants accepted plea deals and may spend six years in jail combined. for the families of the 36 people who died it is some form of closure. here is abc 7 news reporter

alicia. >> reporter: to say this father is heart broken would be an understatement. his daughter was one of the 36 people killed in the ghost ship fire. the two who rand the warehouse struck a deal with the d.a., derek almena got nine years, likely serve 3 1/2, max harris got 6, but should be out in less than two years. >> to be four years or two years with time served, you know, but we just want some justice, some fair justice. >> reporter: defense attorneys insist justice has been served and their clients are also hurting. >> he accepts responsibility for what he did, and feels very badly about what happened. >> max has been and will always be paying for what happened. >> reporter: on december 2nd, 2016, a fire broke out during a party on the building's second floor. there were no fire extinguishers and the only escape route was

down a narrow makeshift wooden staircase. >> they acted negligencely in running that building known as the ghost ship. >> reporter: if the case had gone to trial almena and harris had lost, they could have spent the rest of their lives in prison. there's always been a call for action from the city of oakland since the ghost ship fire. at the time there were eight fire inspectors on staff. by the end of this year, there will be 20. in oakland, lisa amin gulezian, abc 7. a homeless mn faces arson charges in connection with 17 brush fires in the north bay. police arrested domingo bautista bautista he's held on $201,000 bail. all the small fires started over a two-day period last month and happened along the strike zoant creek trail. they think he rode the trail on his bicycle and set the fires. he's set to be arraigned tomorrow. now a live desk update.

>> from abc 7 mornings. >> new developments in thailand while you were sleeping. those young soccer players trapped in a flooded cave will likely have to spend at least one more day under ground, but they were able to get some new supplies overnight. they got mylar warming blankets. you see here that some of the rescue crews, those navy s.e.a.l.s. down there staying with those 12 boys, and their coach, they've been able to treat some of these kids for minor cuts on their feet and legs. the problem is how to get this entire team out safely from the cave. some of the boys have been practicing wearing diving masks and breathing so they can swim out if it comes to that. it's a pretty dangerous operation to have them swim out. those boys and their coach have been trapped underground since june 23rd. nice to get -- see them getting medical attention and, of course, we'll keep our eye on the situation throughout the morning. reggie, back to you. >> thanks. president trump talked with three more supreme court candidates as we wait for his pick that's expected to come on monday. the nominee will replace the bay

area's justice anthony kennedy who grew up in sacramento and now retiring. white house officials say the president talked with seven prospective nominees. some republicans believe this is their best chance to overturn roe versus wade. a senate panel says u.s. intelligence agencies are right and russia did interfere with 2016 presidential election with the aim of helping then candidate donald trump. the report by the senate intelligence committee says the scope of russian interference has only become clearer since the campaign. republicans on the house intelligence committee say that the assessment is driven by corruption and politics. a senate panel also concluded that russian president vladimir putin personally ordered the efforts to influence the campaign. new details this morning on the stretch of highway 1 in big sur that's been closed due to a massive slide. cal trans plans to have it back open by july 20th. the slide buried the road and wiped about a quarter mile section. this is well ahead of the

initial reopening date in the middle of september. crews have been working to get this fixed. the price tag fort repairs, $54 million. good morning. i'm meteorologist frances dinglassan. we have the coastal clouds spilling into the north bay across santa rosa and the peninsula coast. temperatures in the 50s, but cooler in some spots. clearlake 53, san francisco 56, san jose 58 and los gatos 48 degrees. highs from near 60 at the coast, will be breezy. we'll see the on shore flow pick up with gusts around 30 miles an hour into the bay. san francisco your high for today 63. oakland 68. san jose 77. and a warmest inland areas a tough time climbing into the low 80s. if you're headed to the beach it will be peninsula and breezy.

temperatures on the cool side, pretty chilly along the water, in the water as well. only 58 degrees. and the clouds will start to spill back in tonight. unfortunately, right around the 9:00 to 10:00 hour. for a lot of the fireworks viewing. temperatures will drop down into the 50s, upper 40s tonight. people have started their celebration a little bit early this morning. >> yeah. i think a lot of folks had today off from work, for the holiday and we actually do have some collisions to talk about out there. so taking a look at our traffic maps this morning, one of those, a rollover crash and that is on eastbound 80 in the richmond area around appian way. according to chp lanes three and four blocked. not much of a backup approaching the scene. most of the crash has been pushed off to the shoulder. we had yellow and red approaching that a few minutes ago. looks like that has thinds out and really light volumes out there this morning with the fourth and most folks are off today for the holiday. so a quick check outside, our

fireworks as possible. kate larson, abc 7 news. >> if you feel you've had too much to drink tonight aaa is offering the free towing service, tipsy tow, from 6:00 to 6:00. the service is completely free for the driver, a passenger and the vehicle. all you have to do is call 1-800-aaa-help. there is a ten mile limit on the free towing. the federal aviation administration says it is not getting involved in the debate over smaller airline seats. consumer groups had gone to court to demand federal regulation on seat size. they claim smaller seat space with a larger se of today's passengers is creating a safety issue in the event of an evacuation. the faa says there is no immediate safety issue. there's certainly a comfort issue. >> you have the longest legs of anybody up here. >> always take the aisle seat. >> the struggle is real. >> i don't because my husband

during the next hour, we'll start to see the low clouds spread inland and pulls back to the coast by the afternoon and then it creeps right back in during the 9:00 to 10:00 hour. so right around 9:30 you should be okay for the start of the viewing in san francisco, but then it does move in during the 10:00 hour. clear conditions in the inland areas and through parts of the south bay. grab a jacket temperatures on the cool side in the 50s and 60s. milder in livermore, san francisco 54. >> good morning. a look at the roads today, we don't have any major issues right now. we have had a handful of crashes already but we're looking at holiday light volumes as we expect on the fourth of july. walnut creek, southbound 680, really not many vehicles out there right now. certainly no one hitting their brakes and no delays as you approach highway 24. i do want to touch on mass transit. most agencies changes their schedules for today.

this year there will be a little something extra following the parade. at noon the city plans to unveil a statute at toto santos plaza. he founded the city and the adobe he built in 1830 stands today. 76 people in the bay area are celebrating the fourth of july as new american citizens. immigrants from 31 countries gathered on the deck of the ""uss hornet" to take the oath of citizenship yesterday. the vice admiral of the u.s. coast guard welcomed the crowd and told them they will make the country stronger with their passion and energy. >> so i thank you, i congratulate you, i wish you the best our country has to offer. god bless you, your families, and god bless america. >> the ceremony is just one of many being held across the country to celebrate independence day. 14,000 people will become new citizens. congrats to them. all right. never more than 7 minutes away from the accuweather forecast. so it's going to be a great day

the south bay either. >> a group of bystanders jumped into action to save a woman. her leg got stuck in the gap between a train and the platform on friday. in the security camera video released yesterday, see a group of commuters pushing on the train car to free her. they got it back just enough to let her leg out. the woman asked people not to call an ambulance because she couldn't afford the cost. of course, they had to. she was too hurt. paramedics took her to the hospital to be treated for a leg injury. it's sad she didn't have health coverage to help her. >> what a commentary on the says of health care and so many struggle. that was heartbreaking. a study out of brazil revealing how red wine may help prevent cancer no the researchers say it's the red wine that may stop the formation of protein clumps that's important because those clumps are found in half of all tumors. it's found in blueberry, cranberries and peanuts, by the
